HELICOPTER RESCUE Wednesday, February 15, BBC One Wales 7.30pm With thrilling rescue footage and spectacular views over the Welsh landscape, a new three-part series, Helicopter Rescue, follows the unfolding story of people being saved by the RAF s Search and Rescue helicopters based in RAF Valley. The life-saving work of the Sea King crews has generated a lot of media interest recently, because of a certain royal pilot currently serving with the Force. Prince William, or Flt Lt Wales as he s known professionally, is serving with 22 Squadron s C-Flight at RAF Valley on Anglesey. In this series, the programme meets the men and women who serve with Prince William, 365 days a year, 24/7. In the first episode, the RAF Valley crew from Anglesey responds to three complicated emergencies in one day including winching a birthday girl from the infamous Crib Goch ridge in Snowdonia, and rushing crashed Anglesey paraglider Peter Hope to Bangor s Ysbyty Gwynedd. Sergeant Ed Griffiths from Nefyn is a winchman and paramedic based at RAF Valley. In this episode, he opens his heart about the importance of his family when it comes to coping with the often harrowing and difficult rescues. Flt Lt Christian Taff Wilkins from Port Talbot is currently posted with RAF Search and Rescue 22 Squadron s A-Flight at RMB Chivenor in north Devon. The majority of callouts from their North Devon base come from South Wales. The story follows Taff on a rescue mission to the Neath Valley, where a daring kayaker has a suspected spinal injury after shooting the Sgwd y Pannwr waterfall. On their 70th anniversary, Helicopter Rescue also celebrates the RAF s Search and Rescue Force s strong links with Wales. Aviation historian Eddie Doylerush, from Rowen in the Conwy Valley, traces the birth of the RAF Mountain Rescue Service and its Welsh beginnings in 1943, in the small airbase of RAF Llandwrog near Caernarfon. WELSH TOWNS: CARDIGAN Monday, February 13, BBC One Wales, 10.35pm It was the site where the locals repelled Norman invaders, was once Wales s busiest port, and saw the first Chairs awarded for poetry and music in what was Wales s first Eisteddfod. Now the town of Cardigan is about to see its long neglected, 900-year-old castle and the Georgian townhouse in its grounds restored, bringing what was once the focus of the community back to life - just one of the echoes from the past presenter Eddie Butler finds running through the modern town. With a wealth of local historians and some remarkable archive footage, Butler discovers that boats continue to be built by the side of the Teifi, where once a succession of sloops - the white vans of their day - were made; that a designer is bidding to make a new brand of jeans into a global name, a decade after the factory which produced 35,000 pairs a week closed; and that the revived Barley Saturday festival is now attracting a 21 st century audience. POBOL Y CWM Llun-Gwener, Chwefror 13-17, BBC Cymru ar S4C, 8pm Monday-Friday, February 13-17, BBC Wales on S4C, 8pm bbc.co.uk/pobolycwm Fel petai Eileen ddim wedi dioddef digon yn ddiweddar, mae lladrad ym Mhenrhewl ac mae un peth yn arbennig wedi ei ddwyn. Mae gwn Denzil wedi diflannu a gan nad yw wedi ei gofrestru, maent ofn dweud wrth yr heddlu. Aiff y sefyllfa yn fwy difrifol fyth pan glyw Eileen y gwn yn cael ei danio tu allan i r tŷ. Mae pawb ar y fferm ar bigau r drain, a phan fo Cadno yn darganfod pwy yw r lleidr, mae hi n wyllt gacwn. Erbyn diwedd yr wythnos, mae Sioned wedi symud i Benrhewl a i pherthynas hi a Macs yn ansicr. Er ymdrechion Eileen a Macs i drio cysuro Sioned, does na neb yn gweld pa mor fregus yw hi mewn gwirionedd. Mae Sioned yn teimlo r angen i fod yn ei chartref, lle mae n teimlo n agosach at ei thad. Mae gan Ffion gynllwyn i geisio adennill ffafriaeth ei chyn-ŵr, Hywel. Ac nid gwaith tŷ sydd ar ei meddwl pan mae n gofyn iddo ddod draw i drwsio r peiriant golchi. Mae Hywel yn troedio ar dir peryglus iawn a rhaid iddo ddewis gyfeiriad ei ddyfodol. As if Eileen hasn t suffered enough recently, there is a break-in at Penrhewl and one thing in particular has been stolen. Denzil s gun is missing and seeing as it isn t registered, they re reluctant to tell the police. The situation turns serious when Eileen hears the gun being fired outside the house. Everyone is on tenterhooks, so when Cadno discovers the identity of the thief, she hits the roof. Towards the end of the week, Sioned moves into Penrhewl and her relationship with Macs hits the rocks. Eileen and Macs try to comfort her but they cannot see how fragile she actually is. In a bid to feel closer to her father, she returns home, where she feels secure. Ffion has a cunning plan to win back her ex-husband s favour. And household chores are the last thing on her mind when she asks for his help in fixing the washing machine. Hywel is on dangerous territory and he must choose where his future lies. Meleri Thomas
