C O Brien sustained no apparent injury in the incident. When questioned, C O Brien stated that after beginning awkwardly his mount, which was on debut and had led at each of its three barrier trials, was crossed by Shadow Bridge in the early stages. He stated that the gelding raced very greenly when amongst other horses, was inclined to overrace and hang out throughout the middle stages and as a consequence made the home turn awkwardly. C O Brien added that whilst his mount raced more tractably once balanced in the home straight it continued to lay out and in his opinion it will derive benefit from today s race experience. Legion Of Boom Laid out under pressure in the early part of the straight and when being corrected by its rider near the 200m shifted in abruptly. Shadow Bridge On jumping was bumped by Engadine. Sizzleonthebridge A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which raced wide and without cover throughout, revealed no abnormality. Paris Lights Hung in under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride out. Charging Clear A veterinary examination of the filly, which dislodged a tooth during its preliminary and had a small amount of blood in its mouth on arrival at the barriers, deemed it suitable to race.
Race 2 SUEZ C,G&E CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300M) Nicco Lad hung in over the final 200m. When questioned regarding the gelding racing towards the rear of the field, rider C Brown stated that he was instructed to obtain a position with cover. He added that Nicco Lad began awkwardly and with a genuine tempo in the early stages, from his wide barrier, as he did not want to be caught wide and without cover he shifted his mount in behind runners in the early stages and as a result settled further back than what he had intended. Auchentoman raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Near the 150m was eased to avoid the heels of Reward The Chaser which shifted out. Cartel held up rounding the home turn. After straightening had some difficult improving into a narrow run between Reward The Chaser and Quick Finance which was inclined to lay out. Cartel was ultimately able to secure clear running near the 250m. Quick Finance laid out rounding the home turn and in the straight. Precognition rider A Gibbons advised that it was his intention to race prominently, however, as the start was affected the gelding became mildly fractious and was slow to begin. He added that as a result Precognition settled further back than what had been intended. He further added that approaching the 900m Precognition, when inclined to lay out, did not respond to his efforts to restrain the gelding and as a result his mount became awkwardly positioned close to the heels of Auchentoman. He added as a result he was obliged to check his mount and it shifted out abruptly as a consequence. Trainer Mr C Bermingham was advised that an official warning would be recorded against the racing manners of Precognition. Boca Grande Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m improved onto the heels of Auchentoman and had to be shifted out to continue into clear running. Reward The Chaser rider J Ford reported that his mount was inclined to hang out in the straight and proved somewhat difficult to ride out. Leica Kite from the outside barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Race 3 ADVANCED PEST CONTROL F&M CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300M) Cuban Sizzle laid out under pressure in the straight. Hi Lizzy a veterinary examination of the mare which was fractious in the barriers and reared deemed it suitable to race. Began awkwardly and lost ground (2L). Classic Princess Stewards permitted T Clark to ride the mare half a kilogram over its declared weight of 54.5 kilograms. Slow to begin (2L). Swift Arrival on jumping was bumped heaving by Lettre D Amour which shifted in. Calamity Mo began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no abnormality.
Race 4 EGROUP SECURITY F&M MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600M) Tippler when questioned rider C Brown stated that inside the 50m, when racing tight to the outside of Galway Girl, his mount was accidently struck across the head by the whip of T Clark, rider of that runner. He said that as a result his mount shifted out abruptly away from Galway Girl and as he was correcting his mount he was unable to place the filly under full pressure over the concluding stages. Dreamfyre hung in rounding the home turn and in the straight and near the 250m became unbalanced when being corrected by its rider. Dreamfyre then continued to hang in and proved difficult to ride out. Stable representative Mr N Perry was advised that an official warning would be recorded on the racing manners of the mare. Drusilla slow to begin. Near the 700m, when attempting to improve between Chrissy Be and Caprice, had to be steadied when disappointed for this position due to Caprice maintaining its position to its outside. Caprice as there was no other suitable apprentice rider available the Stewards permitted P Scorse to claim 1 ½ kilograms of his 2 kilogram allowance. P Scorse was fined the sum of $300 under LR70. Overraced in the early stages. Chrissy Be was slow to begin, then shortly after was hampered by Dreamfyre which shifted out. Overraced in the early stages. Whitney s Star when questioned regarding the performance, rider R Murray stated that her mount travelled comfortably at the tail of the field throughout the early and middle stages and she was pleased with the manner in which it improved into the race rounding the home turn, however when placed under full pressure in the home straight it failed to quicken and was most disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the final 200m. R Murray added that the only explanation that she could offer was that Whitney s Star may not have been suited racing second-up over 1870m. A postrace veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. The Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of the mare with trainer W Austin. Race 5 SHARP ELECTRONICS GROUP C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE (1500M) Black Consul raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Devil s Luck overraced in the early stages and when the place slackened passing the 1000m had to be checked away from the heels of Nordic Lover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider J Ford stated that he was able to obtain a position with cover behind the leaders, and although his mount was inclined to overrace in the early stages it travelled more comfortably after the 1000m. He stated, however, that his mount was under pressure to maintain its position from as far out as the 600m and it was most disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding from that point. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have sustained a minor abrasion to the near-hind heel and to have lost its near-hind plate. California Longbow laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight and had some difficulty obtaining clear running near the 300m. Helsun slow to begin. Mangione slow to begin. When the pace slackened passing the 1000m had to be checked to avoid the heels of Devil s Luck and shifted out.
Nordic Lover shifted out abruptly shortly after the start. Race 6 RARITY WHOLESALE CLASS 1 &MAIDEN PLATE (1870M) Kaapfever on jumping was bumped by Rotoiti which shifted out. Passing the 600m was bumped and carried wider by Plagiarist, which shifted out to improve. Near the 300m was bumped on the hindquarter by Counterfeited and became unbalanced. Ligulate from the outside barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Lady Veronique As A Adkins was indisposed due to illness the Stewards permitted A Hyeronimus to be substituted as the rider of the mare. Counterfeited from a wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. After the 300m was crowded between Kaapfever which shifted in slightly after becoming unbalanced and Ligulate which after improving into a narrow run between Counterfeited and Plagiarist was taken out slightly by Plagiarist. Rotoiti As R Hutchings was indisposed due to injury the Stewards permitted L Magorrian to be substituted as the rider of the mare. Race 7 NATIONWIDE SUPER BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (900M) Azzie s Ready raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Eleazar from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Time Out Of Mind rider T Clark reported that his mount hung in under pressure in the straight and as a consequence he was unable to ride it out over the final 150m. Trainer Ms C Cunningham was told that a warning would placed on the gelding s record. Dynamic Bid on jumping was bumped by Starry, which shifted out. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Gunnaza held up rounding the home turn. Halliday Road trainer Ms T Bateup reported that the gelding lost its off-fore plate in running. Sylvie Acting on veterinary advice Sylvie was a late withdrawal at 10:57am when the mare was found to be suffering colic. Trainer Ms L Sheppard was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Sylvie being permitted to race again. Starry approaching the 300m was steadied when crowded between Falerina and Dynamic Bid (A Hyeronimus), which shifted in. A Hyeronimus was told to exercise more care. Miss Gigi slow to begin.
