BOB2Ki BALA FOOTBALL POOL 2018 WEEK 12 NOTES 1. Still no residents of Reverse Consensus Island. Twelve weeks in! 2. Ho! Ho! Ho! No, around here, that doesn t mean Christmas. It means Thanksgiving. As the holiday with Indians and Pilgrims. As the holiday that our dear departed Chief loved so well (especially after he donned his nom de headdress). So, how did the Chief become the Chief? Amazingly simple. The two of us were chatting on the phone while watching the Orioles play the Brewers on TV in Milwaukee. These were the days of no interleague play and the Brewers were an American League team. (Yes, that long ago). It was also the early days of the return of advertisements to outfield walls. One simple, lonely sign on the wall in the old ballpark flashed on the screen. All it said was Ho Chunk. Nothing else. No mention of Indian tribes or casinos or hotels or even RVs (Winnebago joke there). It was mystifying and enticing. We did our research (which back then meant Ask Jeeves!). And a fat thick envelope showed up at the Chief s doorstep that just said Chief Ho Chunk, Bowie, MD with the rest of the address completely mangled. How it found its way to the right mailbox, we will never know but it did. It was a sign. The Chief donned his nom de headdress and even the headdress to try to win a contest at the local minor league baseball stadium for tropical night (the picture on our webpage). He was beaten by a five year old in a Hawaiian shirt! And the rest was history. We miss you, Ho! 3. Just a week and a half away from Bowl bids.
