Well, that might be a tiny bit of overstatement, but not by much. We are a club, and we have expenses, and it s up to us to cover those. The Branch needs a tiny bit of your money to keep the proverbial lights on, so please pay your assessment at the next meeting. Every single penny of this money goes to Branch needs, and is strictly accounted for. (Believe me, I have checked for gaps in the accounting process!) NO MORE!! Gentlemen, please remember this is the last month this newsletter will be mailed to you. For a number of reasons--effort, expense, etc.-- we are discontinuing the hard copy, and will send the newsletter to you via e-mail. If you do not have e-mail but do have access to a computer, remember that the newsletter is available on our Branch 93 website. If you have neither e-mail nor a computer, and still need the newsletter mailed to you, there will be request forms on the table at sign-in. Fill one out, and we will examine the matter. Thanks. PARTICIPATION I am happy to report that Paul Bagley has stepped up and volunteered to be our Branch Secretary! Thank you Paul. (I had hoped to take Paul for a celebratory weekend in Vegas--alas,
no gap!) But please welcome Paul to the executive committee. We still have needs for other offices to be manned: Asst Secretary, for one; Sunshine Chairman., perhaps. Please give these positions some thought. See you at the meeting. Mike Glaviano And from your Little Sir Our February guest speaker, Craig Powell, promises to be especially interesting. I first became aware of Craig through his insightful articles (Inside City Hall) in INSIDE Sacramento, a regional neighborhood magazine. Craig is a retired attorney and businessman who is now president of Eye on Sacramento, a civic watchdog and policy group. As we announced at our last meeting, Steve Beck (our outstanding January guest speaker), will provide a private tour of Sutter Fort for our members and guests. We have a date! The tour will be Saturday, March 25 at 10:30 a.m. Please go to the main entrance and mention Steve Beck. There will be a 5 entry fee for adults. I already have a group of 16 people signed up. Others who are interested, please contact me by phone (916-454-5831) or e-mail (kennethlhill@prodigy.net) ASAP. Also, remember we need volunteers to man a SIRs membership recruitment booth at the Annual Haggin Oaks Golf Expo on April 28, 29, and 30. I was told by one of last year s volunteers the sponsor s treated our guys great and even provided a free lunch. Remember, this is the largest exhibitor golf expo in the United States! Lots of great new golf equipment and gadgets to explore and try out. Ken Hill CARSON VALLEY COMMITTEE REPORT Relatively speaking, our Branch 93 Carson Valley Golf Tournament is a STEAL! There is a tournament of all SIR members held each year in Reno, and it offers pretty much the same deal as ours: 3 nights hotel, 2 days golf, breakfast vouchers, etc. Now they do have more prize money, but the cost is 684 per person. Nearly 700!! For a single golfer and a non-golfer-- 878!! (I bet a few of you are hyperventilating right now!) Compared to that, our price of 480 for a single is cheap. Relatively speaking. Also of note, last year there were some who had non-smoking rooms that were a bit too close to the casino floor, and experienced some smoke issues. So this year, those who prefer nonsmoking rooms will be situated on the upper floors, and should have no smoke problems at all.
So don t forget the dates---june 4 -- 7. And get your deposit in soon, please. Any questions, any at all, not even related to the tournament, call Bruce. (Where do flies go in the winter?--he loves those!) DUES ARE DUE! It s time to pay up. All those who have not paid their yearly dues are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. The dues are 20. You can pay your dues at the February lunch on Feb. 20 or you can mail the payment to our Treasurer David Saxby at 9503 Dunkerrin Way, Elk Grove CA 95758.
