CONNECTICUT SKI COUNCIL skiclub.com February, 2018 president@skiclub.com PRESIDENT S MESSAGE COUNCIL MEETING: THE 2018 OnSNOW CARNIVAL APPROACHES The 2018 Kids-Learn-to-Ski Day may have come and gone as you read this. Once again, we have reached out to our member clubs to offer a day of ski and snowboard fun and learning for children ages 5-18. If you missed it this year, pencil in the Sunday between the NFL Championship games and the Superbowl for the event in 2019. Coming up is the OnSnow Weekend, which will be held March 2-3-4 at Okemo Mountain resort. BE SURE to consider this as part of your 2018 winter season. It is a great time to race, watch, party and just have great fun at discounted prices for the whole family! Be sure to read the details and to sign up those interested in taking part in the various events. ALSO IMPORTANT!! We need a count for the dinner/dance on Saturday night at the Council meeting on February 13!!! I hope that you are all enjoying what (so far) has been an above-average season (though at times a bit too cool!) and are taking advantage of the vouchers, Awareness Days, and the trips your clubs are offering. COMMITTEE REPORTS: SKI VOUCHERS Nancy Nolan (Southern tier) and Cheryl Parmelee (Northern tier) - if you have any questions or concerns about vouchers, please contact these folks to assist you. AWARENESS DAYS John Filakovsky As mentioned, the OFFICIAL Awareness Day schedule is posted on the Council website. PLEASE do not download it to your club s website, but rather encourage your members to go to the CSC site for the latest updates. Also, remember that your members need to know the rules and regulations regarding the CSC stickers. Participating mountain resorts do contact me with violations and/or rude behavior. In turn, I contact your club President for resolution of such behavior. Help us to preserve the good will that we have built with the mountains. As always, I bring additional stickers to the Council meetings in case your club has grown out of its supply. CSC SNOWBALL - Melissa Patterson and Marsha Baretta are beginning preparations for the 2018 SNOWBALL, which will take place on November 17, 2018. Stay tuned! NATIONAL SKI COUNCIL FEDERATION Ben Tomszak will provide updates about the Federation activities and news of interest at the February Council meeting. MONDAY NIGHT RACING has gotten off to a roaring start, with over 180 individual racers coming out for the first two weeks. The series goes on each Monday night (weather permitting) at Mt Southington, through February 26. Join them for some great competition, socializing, and food and drink at the Mountain House afterward. KIDS DAY The Council s Kids Learn-to-Ski Day took place Sun., January 28, 2018. We hope everyone attending had a great time. OnSNOW WEEKEND Okemo will host the festivities on Mar. 2, 3 and 4, 2018. Club race captains need to begin to put their rosters together as soon as possible. Roster forms, registration forms and waivers and related information have been sent out and are available on the website. The schedule is posted, and we need to know who will attend the dinner/dance no later than the Feb. 13 Council meeting. Please review this information, which has been sent to club presidents and race captains. Ambassador s Angle Hello, Everyone! It s ski season and I truly hope everyone s mind, thoughts, and energy are out there on the slopes enjoying the wonderland that Mother Nature has prepared for us!! With that in mind, representatives from several clubs are anxiously awaiting their turn to plan the upcoming Snowball slated for November 17, 2018 at the Hartford/Windsor Marriott (set your calendars!) Our 2018 CSC Ambassador, Melissa Patterson-Meador, and her Ambassador runners-up Bob Lewis of Hamden and Sandra Hesel of AE Ski club will lead the way when the time approaches. There is a requirement that every ski club assist with the planning and preparation of the Snowball on a 3-year rotating cycle. That will continue this year and Melissa, along with her leadership team will call a meeting of the Snowball committee club representatives (NOT to be confused with the club Ambassadors) at the end of this ski season. The following clubs are on the rotation list for the 2018 Snowball: CE Ski Club (formerly Alstom), Cronin, Double Diamonds, Electric Boat, Fairfield County Flakes, The Goodmen club, Hartford, Hopmeadow, Meriden, Metroland, Montachusett, NAVA, New Canaan, New Haven, Pinnacle, and UCONN. Questions? Not yet!! If you believe your club was named in error in the list above, please contact me, CSC VP, a.s.a.p. If your club was omitted please advise! We look forward to planning with all of you but NOT until after our fabulous OnSnow Carnival at Okemo and the end of our regular ski season.
