1 Snow Plow Scrapings N o v e m b e r President s Message N e x t M e e t i n g N o v e m b e r 9, 2016 The Ski Bum Race Team Ski Waxing -food collection for Delaware food bank I n s i d e t h i s i s s u e : Meetings 1-2 Officers and Council 2 It is finally time for skiing! Our November meeting is a presentation by Chris Loughton from The Ski Bum of this season s ski and boarding equipment and apparel and ski waxing by the race team We will also be collecting for the Food Bank of Delaware at the November and December meetings. T Our Member of the Month for October was Mary Thurman. She did an excellent job of planning and overseeing the Appreciation Dinner at Mendenhall Inn in August. The dinner was well attended and we all had a good time. Some of us even acted like grown-ups. We have four great week-long trips. As I write this, The Zermatt trip is wait-listed, the Aspen/Snowmass trip has two openings and the Telluride trip has 5 openings. The Jackson Hole trip in mid-march still has several openings Our day trips to Elk are coming together. We have three Friday trips and one Saturday trip to Elk. We still need trip leaders for some of these trips. Our December meeting will be focused on fitness and protec- tion from injury. But to balance that out, I have been reminded that our December meeting has traditionally been a bake-off. So we will have fitness and bake-off in the same meeting! So far chocolate is not banned as performance enhancing. 5 Racing News P a g e 5 One of my favorite ski club meeting is the November meeting. The November meeting will be about skiing. The Ski Bum will demonstrate new equipment and ski apparel and the race team will be waxing skis. The members of the race team get together during the off-season, but this is our first ski related activity of the new season. The cost for waxing skis is $10 for skis longer than 150 mm and $7 for skis 150 mm and shorter. Unfortunately since we don t have the equipment to wax snow boards, we can only wax skis. ` Our race season starts in December at Killington, VT with the ASRA Season Openers, December 16 to 18. Our race season runs until March, with our Championship Races at West Mtn, NY March 10 to 12. During the season we race in New York, Vermont, and Pennsylvania. Our first race of 2017 is at Elk Mountain on January 7 and 8. As a reminder, racing is a club activity. We are always interesting talking to people who may want to race or even just ski with us.
