Delmarva just won their fifth series of the season in Lexington last night, 5-4. The Shorebirds have played well against the Southern Division, boasting a 6-3 record through nine games. Tonight begins their fourth and final series against a Southern Division foe in the first half of the season. The Birds have won 12 of their last 16 games since opening the season 4-6. Asheville has had an up and down campaign and lost each of the last two nights to Lakewood in blowouts. They are led by shortstop Brendan Rodgers, last year s third overall pick. Rodgers is hitting.367 with 10 doubles, 6 homers and 22 RBI s. TONIGHT S OPPONENT: Left-hander Jack Wynkoop takes the hill in the opening game of the four game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds. Wynkoop was a sixth round pick by the Rockies last June in the 2015 MLB First Year Player Draft after spending three season pitching for the South Carolina Gamecocks. In his collegiate career, he went 22-14 with a 3.08 ERA in 50 appearances. Tonight is his sixth career start in the South Atlantic League, winning each of his last two games. ROSTER OVERVIEW: Delmarva opens the year with each of the Orioles First Round Draft picks last summer in shortstop Ryan Mountcastle and outfielder D.J. Stewart. According to Baseball America, the Shorebirds have five of the top 30 prospects in Baltimore s farm system on their roster. Aside from Mountcastle and Stewart, pitchers Ofelky Peralta (#17) and Garrett Cleavinger (#26), along with catcher Alex Murphy (#27), are among the O s most highly-touted farmhands. RHP s Christian Turnipseed and Ryan Meisinger have both posted solid numbers as well. PLAYER TO WATCH WHO S HOT/WHO ELSE D.J. STEWART OF Stewart has completely turned around a tough offensive start to the year. Over his last 12 games, Stewart has raised his average from.140 to.215 by hitting.306 (11-36) with 7 RBI and 10 runs scored. He has also walked 14 times in that stretch, been hit by pitch once and stolen 4 bases. WHO S HOT ALEX MURPHY Alex Murphy has hit safely in 19 of the first 25 games of the season. Both of his 2-run bombs against Kannapolis came at crucial spots, and he also had a pair of 3-run doubles in critical at bats during the opening series against Hagerstown. WHO ELSE CEDRIC MULLINS Cedric Mullins had a 3-for-3 game in the first of Mondy s twinbill, including three extrabase hits and two RBI s. Mullins has played center field more than anyone else this year.

Jimenez was signed as an international free agent by the Baltimore Orioles in 2011 and made his debut in the Dominican Summer League in 2012. Jimenez has slowly increased his innings load and has put together a nice professional resume thus far. In his career, he sports a 15-13 record with a 2.52 ERA. Jimenez s best outing last year came in his penultimate start when he picked up his first career win as a Shorebird. He fired seven shutout innings against eventual league-champion Hickory, scattering just two hits and allowing no walks. Jimenez was transferred from Aberdeen to Delmarva in mid-august and made four starts for the Shorebirds at the end of last season. ARSENAL: 2-Seam Fastball, 4-Seam Fastball, Slurve, Split Change LAST OUTING: After two straight outstanding performances, Jimenez struggled in his last outing against Charleston. He pitched in the second game of a doubleheader and gave up a Shorebirds-season high six runs in 5.1 innings. He also allowed two home runs. He also walked a career-high five hitters. 2016 MONTH-BY-MONTH Month Record ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG April 2-1 2.25 16.0 10 4 4 0 4 15.179 May 0-1 10.13 5.1 5 6 6 2 5 1.278 June July August CAREER STATISTICS (INCLUDING 2016) Season Team W-L ERA IP H R ER HR BB SO 2014 GCL O s 0-3 3.98 43.0 43 23 19 0 13 32 2015 Aberdeen 2-5 4.73 40.0 51 21 21 2 9 19 2015 Delmarva 2-0 2.45 22.0 16 6 6 1 7 11 TOTALS 16-14 2.65 248.0 213 97 73 7 74 183 WEDNESDAY S STARTER: Brian Gonzalez will toss the second game of the series tomorrow against Asheville. MANAGER RYAN MINOR Minor, 42, returns for his eighth season on the Shorebirds coaching staff, and his sixth as the team s manager. In 2015, he led the Shorebirds to 71 wins, the most victories for the franchise since 2009. This is Minor s second stint in Salisbury, having previously managed the Shorebirds for three seasons (2010-12) and spent two seasons (2008-09) as the hitting coach for the Shorebirds. In between, he managed the Frederick Keys (Advanced-A) in 2013. During his tenure as manager of the Shorebirds, the team compiled 302 wins, the most of any Delmarva manager. Minor aided the development of current Orioles, Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop, who played for the Shorebirds in 2011. Minor, a longtime resident of Salisbury with his wife Allyson and two children Reagan and Finley, enjoyed a four-year run in the major leagues from 1998 through 2001. He spent his first three years with the Orioles and his final season with the Montreal Expos. Minor s playing career is best remembered for replacing Cal Ripken, Jr. at third base on September 20, 1998 when the consecutive games streak of 2,632 came to a close. The Orioles drafted Minor in the 33rd round of the 1996 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. In 1997, he played for Shorebirds and was an SAL All-Star third baseman. He batted.307 with 24 home runs and 97 RBIs. Minor still owns the franchise single season records for doubles (42). Minor also owns a decorated college basketball career. He is seventh all-time in scoring at Oklahoma with 1,946 points. He was selected in the second round (32nd overall) of the 1996 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. TRIPLE THE FUN: Delmarva finished the 2015 season 4th in the SAL in triples with 44 as a team. TJ Olesczuk, Logan Uxa, Cam Kneeland and Jay Gonzalez are tied for the team lead with five triples. This year s squad has hit the 3rd most triples in franchise history, nearing the record of 48 set in 1996.
