October 2017 From Your Presidents... Happy October! Forget the tricks - the PTO wants to spread treats this month! We'll be handing out gift cards to the students who send in the most Box Tops labels, awarding prizes during Red Ribbon Week, providing a special treat to our teachers, and holding the 4th Annual VCMS Fall Film Festival with our new Trunk or Treat competition! We hope you can join us at this great VCMS community event! More information is available below. Remember, it's never too late to be a PTO volunteer! Email vcmspto@gmail.com if you'd like to help out at school events. Sandy Dickerhofe & Michelle Hall Co-Presidents

Fall Film Festival The PTO would like to invite you to our 4th Annual (Spooky) Fall Film Festival on Friday, October 27th on the VCMS Lawn. The event will kick off at 5:30pm and every film submitted will be shown starting at sunset. Bring the entire family for a night of films and trunk-or-treating provided by VCMS clubs. We will have several different dinner options as well as desserts and snacks available for purchase. Entry fee is $1 or 1 non-perishable food item per person that will be donated to St. Brendan's Parish Food Pantry. Questions, please email Sandy at thedickerhofes@yahoo.com Calling all filmmakers! Students and Staff, we need your films. Film submissions for the 2017 Fall Film Festival are due no later than Monday, October 16th. For submission requirements and permission slips, stop by the Media Center for more information and forms. Mr. Mewborn has set everything up in ItsLearning for you! Submit your film and you could win BIG CASH PRIZES!! What teacher will knock Ms. Rykowski off the podium this year? Remind your teacher to make their films too!

Red Ribbon Week The PTO is working with the Guidance Department for this year's Red Ribbon Week. Here are the themes for each day: Monday - Students wear red Tuesday - Education on the history of Red Ribbon Week and discussion of the theme Wednesday - Students receive ribbons that will be used for grand prize drawings Thursday - Assemblies for students Friday - Team Up to Defeat Drug Day (students wear favorite team jersey) Veterans Day Mark your calendars for November 10 at 9:15am to celebrate Veterans Day! We invite all of our Vipers' veterans and active military members to be honored at our celebration. This year we will have a Wall of Honor to pay tribute to veterans who are unable to attend the celebration. Please submit a photograph to vcmsvetsday@gmail.com by November 3rd if you would like your loved one to be included

School Store We've added a few new items to our spirit wear inventory for sale in the school store. There are new boy hoodies, ladies crew sweatshirts, jersey hoodie, headbands, canvas bags and more. Supplies are limited, so please visit the school store M-F from 8:45-9:00AM. Spirit wear items are priced between $5 to $40. We accept cash or check made payable to VCMS PTO.

All A's Last year's 6th & 7th (now 7th & 8th graders) were celebrated for making all A's last semester. What an amazing accomplishment! The students received delicious ice cream and ice pops, a little social time with their friends, and a certificate for their hard work.

Cyber Safety Presentations Last month, students and parents alike learned more about the dangers lurking online and on phones and devices. The annual Cyber Safety Seminar for students was led by our own School Resource Office, Deputy Sabella. That evening, dozens of parents attended a presentation led by Detective Jeff Roe. Box Tops DID YOU KNOW THAT VCMS EARNS $$ FOR BOX TOPS and YOUR STUDENT COULD BRING HOME A $25 GIFT CARD? Simply clip BOX TOPS from grocery and household items and send them in with your student. Please attach your student's name, grade and homeroom teacher to the bag/envelope. The collection box is located in the front office. The student in each grade level who sends in the

most BOX TOPS will WIN a $25 GIFT CARD. Upcoming Events 10/23-10/27 - Red Ribbon Week 10/26 - Halloween Treats for Teachers 10/27 - Fall Film Festival 11/10 - Veterans Day Event
