A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have quartered its near fore heel. Jockey D Staeck was reprimanded under AR137(a) for allowing his mount to shift inwards passing the 1400m causing TERROR FORCE to be tightened and steadied. When assessing the incident Stewards took into account the racing manner of TERROR FORCE which had a tendency to lay outwards and race keenly. RACE 2: SEACORP HANDICAP - 1600M BOLD SUCCESS Commenced awkwardly and bumped shortly after. Raced ungenerously in the early stages getting its head in the air on several occasions. EMMA'S CHILD Raced wide throughout. KINGDOM AND EMPIRE Slow into stride losing one length. STORM DANCER Trainer advised that the gelding will be ridden on pace if possible and this information was disseminated. Lay inwards in the straight. Rider reported that although his mount had commenced well he was mindful that the gelding has a tendency to over-race therefore elected not to ride it along through the early stages to maintain his forward position. He further advised that several horses that had drawn wider than him had been ridden forward to take up forward positions which resulted in him being shuffled back through the field and racing further back than anticipated. RACE 3: MUMM CHAMPAGNE HANDICAP - 1000M MIGHTY BLONDE Returned having cast its near hind plate. BRACKETS When held up for clear running blundered from the heels of another runner near the 200m and was then taken inwards shortly after to obtain clear running. ASCOT : 18.03.17 178/2 Race 3 cont: SPIRITUAL EYES Over-raced in the middle stages. Rider reported the mare having to work hard through the early and middle stages may have contributed to it failing to finish the race off strongly in the straight. AMERICAN STAR Trainer advised that gelding will be ridden in a mid-field position if possible and this information was disseminated. Held up on straightening and angled outwards to obtain clear running near the 200m. Returned having cast its off hind shoe. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned with abrasions to the off side hock. MAGNIFLYING Raced wide throughout. Bumped at the 250m and was crowded and eased at the 200m. Following the unplaced performance a post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be lame in the off-fore. Trainer Mr D Miller was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness will be required prior to it trialling or racing again. Trainer was further advised that the gelding will not be permitted to trial for a period of one month due to its history of unsoundness to the off-fore and that the gelding will then be required to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards with a further Veterinary clearance following the trial. Stewards inquired into the reason for BRACKETS (C Johnston- Porter) blundering from the heels of AMERICAN STAR (A Mitchell) near the 200m. It was established that BRACKETS was improving quickly to the outside of AMERICAN STAR with MAGNIFLYING being positioned to the outside of BRACKETS causing BRACKETS to be placed in restricted room and blunder as AMERICAN STAR shifted outwards slightly. In all of the circumstances Apprentice C Johnston- Porter was told to exercise caution and prevent his mounts from travelling too closely to the heels of other runners and Apprentice A Mitchell was reminded of his obligations to be fully clear when shifting ground in future. RACE 4: PERTH STAKES - 1100M KEEPER KEEN Bumped at the start. DEBELLATIO Raced wide throughout. REYKJAVIK Slipped at the start. LITTLE HERCULES Scrambled on jumping and bumped shortly after. FONTAINEBLEAU Returned having cast its off side front shoe. ROYAL STAR Rider reported that he expected to be positioned back in the field but after commencing very well and with a lack of exposed pace in the race he allowed the filly to stride forward where he was able to lead comfortably. VAIN STRYKER Commenced awkwardly losing one length. Held up from on straightening until passing the 200m. Rider reported that she anticipated taking up a forward position however after her mount had lost ground at the start she elected to steady inwards across heels which resulted in her settling in a mid-field position. ABSOLUTE MAGIC Held up from on straightening until angled outwards to obtain clear running near the 200m. CASSOWARY STREET Held up for the majority of the straight. Gear Change: VAIN STRYKER Bar shoe on (off side front).
ASCOT : 18.03.17 178/3 RACE 6: PENFOLDS HANDICAP - 1400M THE COBBLA In relation to the gelding settling on pace the rider reported his mount had commenced well and when angling inwards to obtain a position a runner to his inside had improved quickly therefore he elected to allow his mount to stride forward to settle outside the leader. ANVIL GREEN Blundered on jumping and lost one length. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have returned with an abrasion to its lip and having cast its near side fore shoe. PUSHIN' SHAPES Commenced awkwardly with the rider striking the outside barrier partition and becoming unbalanced. Raced keenly in the early stages getting its head in the air near the 1200m. HELMS GATE Tightened and restrained near the 1200m. Pulled hard and raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Trainer Mr V Sigley was advised that a Senior Rider must be engaged for the gelding s future starts. GALAXY STAR Raced wide throughout. MAIN INSTIGATOR impeded for a short distance on straightening. ESPERANCA Tightened and restrained near the 1200m and lost ground. Gear Change: ESPERANCA Bar shoe off (off side front). An inquiry was held into the reason ESPERANCA (S Parnham) and HELMS GATE (S Bonner) being tightened and restrained near the 1200m where ESPERANCA was tightened. Evidence was taken from Apprentice R Tan (THE COBBLA), Apprentice S Bonner, Jockey S Parnham, a Senior Rider representing Apprentice R Tan and RWWA Jockey Coach. It was established that shortly after the start HELMS GATE was bumped by PUSHIN' SHAPES with HELMS GATE then commencing to race keenly and approaching the 1200m that gelding when continuing to race in a fierce manner and improved quickly to the inside of THE COBBLA which was shifting inwards at this time. Apprentice R Tan then corrected THE COBBLA however HELMS GATE shifted inwards causing tightening to ESPERANCA. Stewards attributed this incident to the racing manner of HELMS GATE and consequently a Senior Rider embargo was placed on this gelding. RACE 7: GIMCRACK STAKES 1100M SEANNIE Bumped outwards at the start losing a length. Rider advised that due to the incident at the start his mount raced several lengths further back in the field than anticipated and consequently raced at the rear and had to be taken outwards across heels passing the 600m where it then raced wide and he then kept it balanced in the early part of the straight before using his whip near the 200m and the filly then commenced to lay inwards. After reviewing the vision, Stewards accepted the explanation. SUMMER S DREAM Commenced awkwardly and veered outwards on jumping. Raced wide throughout. WAR KSAR Held up from on straightening until angled outwards to obtain clear running near the 200m. Rider reported he was not instructed to take up a forward position however after his mount had commenced on level terms with a number of runners to his immediate inside, instead of attempting to restrain his mount behind the heels of the runners to his inside he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward in an attempt to avoid being caught wide without cover.
