Ongerup Bowling Club 50th birthday. The club welcomed a happy group of bowlers, past members and spectators to its 50th anniversary. Visitors came from Perth, Mandurah, Bunbury, Albany and Bremer Bay. The format of the day was drawn pairs on a rotation so individual players carried their score. After 3 games, Mick Creagh was the winner, runner up was George Houston, Barry Savage was 3rd and Ron Watt was 4th. The cash prizes were sponsored by BN Grading and Rattan and Slater. One point worth noting was the three generations of the Jaekel family on the green. Mick Jaekel, son Ernie and granddaughter Joslyn, plus Mick's sister Kate Houston all played. The birthday cake, made and decorated by Judy Kerse, was cut by Life Members Mick Jaekel and Pam Parkin. Mick, Pam and Noel are the three surviving Life Members. Maurice O'Neill, grandson of the late Anne Hart who was also a life member of the club, congratulated the club and said his grandmother would be proud of what the club has achieved.
