HOLiDAY CLASSiC FAQ s WHAT KIND OF ROPE CAN WE USE? The only type of rope allowed is Official Double Dutch Rope. In the Standard Speed & Compulsory events, Singles Teams must use Singles Ropes (12 feet), and Doubles Teams must use Doubles Ropes (14 feet). In the Fusion events, teams may use either Singles or Doubles Official Double Dutch Rope, but may not use any other rope or any other length. If you need Official Double Dutch Rope, it can be purchased from the NDDL website at www.nddl.org/store/ropes WHAT IS A FUSION ROUTINE? A Fusion Routine is a standard Double Dutch Free Style routine performed with the accompaniment of music. WHAT KIND OF MUSIC CAN WE USE IN FUSION? Any type of music may be used in a Fusion routine. However, foul language is not permissible. Any team using music containing foul language will be automatically disqualified, and may be removed from the stage during their presentation. International contestants should be especially careful to make sure they know the meaning of the English words in their music! *Even if foul language is not noticed right away, if it is detected at a later time (during a video review for example), the team may still be disqualified, and may be required to relinquish any prizes or awards they may have won. In this case, any awards won will go to the next highest scoring team. CAN WE USE PROPS IN FUSION? Items than can be held, carried, or worn such as flags, fans, hats, pom-poms, sports equipment, etc. are allowed. Freestanding props such as chairs, stools, ladders, etc. are not allowed. A team may not use any type of item/s that can cause injury to any team member or members of the audience. Firecrackers or any other type of flammable material are clearly prohibited. Please call if you have any question regarding permissible use of props. OUR TEAM HAS MORE THAN SIX PEOPLE CAN WE ENTER THE FUSION COMPETITION? No, the limit is six people on a team for Novice and Advanced Fusion. You should reduce your team to six members in order to qualify to compete. WE ARE AN ALL-MALE TEAM, WE HAVE NO GIRLS - CAN WE ENTER THE FUSION COMPETITION? No, at the moment, NDDL regulations require that at least one female must be on each team. HOW LONG SHOULD A FUSION ROUTINE BE? All Fusion routines should be no longer than 3 minutes in duration. Judges will allow a few seconds leeway, but at 4 minutes, the team will be asked to leave the stage. HOW IS A FUSION ROUTINE JUDGED? A panel of renowned judges with expertise in various related disciplines (e.g. dance, music, theater/staging, gymnastics, Double Dutch), rate the Fusion performances. The NDDL, its staff and officials, including speed judges, have no influence or involvement in the judging of the FUSION Competition. The official fusion judges look at how a team presents and executes the stunts within their routine that must be accompanied by music. Each routine is rated on a scale of 1-10 in the following categories: 1. TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY Overall difficulty of the routine & its components Note: stunts performed outside of the ropes are not judged in this category! 2. EXECUTION & ACCURACY Number or mistakes Note: stunts performed outside of the ropes are not judged in this category! 3. ARTISTIC PRESENTATION Artistic use of stage presentation, choreography & dance movements. 4. PERCENTAGE OF ROUTINE (INCLUDING TRICKS & STUNTS) PERFORMED WITHIN-OR-THROUGH THE MOVING ROPES. The more that is done within the ropes, the higher the score; the more that is done outside of the ropes, the lower the score. 5. OVERALL PREPARATION AND PERFORMANCE Overall impression of the whole routine The total score for each team is added up, and placements are awarded based on the highest numerical score For team registration, group ticket sales, and all other event information please call (813) 961-4009 or (212) 865-9606 For media, please call (212) 360-5583 E-mail: Lauren@NationalDoubleDutchLeague.com Website: www.nationaldoubledutchleague.com 4
