All participants receive a free t-shirt and every team is recognized during awards with a trophy or a plaque! Certified UCA/NCA judges will score the competition using a UCA score sheet. This is a great chance to get feedback before heading to UCA High School Nationals! Attached to this invitation, you will find the competition schedule, routine rules and requirements, a medical waiver form, divisions, as well as important general information. All high school, middle school, CYO, recreation, athletic, and college cheer teams are invited to participate on Saturday, January 28th on a nine-panel cheer floor. Start 2017 off with this exciting competition! 2 COMPETITION SCHEDULE The Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge will be split into two sessions. Each session will serve as a separate competition. It is imperative that teams and spectators arrive at the scheduled times, NOT BEFORE. Please inform your teams and spectators NOT to arrive EARLY the doors WILL NOT BE OPEN. Saturday January 28, 2017 (Exact times may change and will be based on amount of registrations) Nine Panel cheer floor! SESSION 1 - RECREATIONAL/ATHLETIC SQUADS COMPETE 8:00am -- Team Registration 8:45am Doors open for Spectator Admission 9:00am Competition begins 1:00pm -- Award Ceremony SESSION 2 SCHOOL/COLLEGE SQUADS COMPETE (Times based on amount of registrations) 2:00pm Team Registration 2:30pm Doors open for Spectator Admission 3:00pm Competition begins 5:15pm Award Ceremony
3 UCA/NCA certified judges will be judging the competition using a UCA score sheet. GVHS Cheerleaders will be provided for spotting during the competition. If you do not want spotters please inform the spotters before your team takes the floor. A DJ with sound system will be provided by GVHS Cheerleading. (For best results, CDs are recommended). You may test your music with the DJ prior to the start of competition. Order of performance will be determined by a lottery and will be ed the week of competition. Please contact us immediately if you have any time conflicts for your squad. Order of performance WILL NOT be changed the day of the competition. High School teams are later in the day to accommodate SAT testing. T-shirts and score sheets must be picked up during the awards ceremony at the end of your session by a coach. No t-shirts, trophies, or score sheets will be mailed after the conclusion of the competition. One-day Spectator Fee: Adults - $10.00; Students - $5.00; Under 5 - Free Food and beverages will be available for purchase by cheerleaders and spectators. Cheer grams, cheer apparel, 50/50 raffle tickets, etc., will be available for purchase. Garnet Valley High School is located at 552 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills, PA For best directions from your location, please use Google Maps or a similar service. Team Registration (Before event) 1. Team roster form including name, age, birth date, and grade level of each participant. 2. Entry form including squad size and division. 3. Payment of $150 per team made payable to: GVHS Cheerleading. Team Registration (Day of event) 1. Waiver of Liability/Medical Form completed for each participant. Registration begins no earlier than 8:00 am for Session I and no earlier than 2:00 pm for Session II. *This is subject to change based on registrations. Overcrowding of the entrance to the school becomes a safety violation. Please note your registration time and discourage your team from arriving before the time assigned. Spectators will be admitted on Saturday at 8:45 am and 2:30 pm. Please advise family and friends coming to the competition that the doors will not be opened until the designated times. GVHS gymnasium cannot accommodate early arrival spectators for Session II to be admitted into the gymnasium. As soon as the awards ceremony for Session I has ended and their spectators have moved out, we will begin allowing Session II spectators to enter the gymnasium. Free Parking will be provided for spectators throughout the weekend. Illegally parked cars on any Garnet Valley School District property will be towed at the owner s expense. Public Bathrooms are available in the main entrance area of the school for spectators. Additional Cheerleaders Only Bathrooms are available and located near the warm up gymnasium and the on deck area. Changing clothes/uniforms in public open space is inappropriate and all cheerleaders are asked to use the bathrooms reserved for their use to avoid embarrassment to themselves or others. Please do not allow teams to change in hallways, auditorium, gyms, or other open areas. Trespassing throughout the school building or outside on any Garnet Valley School District (GVSD) Property is prohibited. Only areas designated for the GVHS Cheer Challenge can be occupied. Assigned Cheerleader Only areas will be monitored by security, allowing only coaches and participants to enter. PARNETS, SIBLINGS, OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AND/OR FRIENDS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INTO CHEERLEADER ONLY AREAS. Valuable items such as, but not limited to, pocketbooks, wallets, IPods, portable DVD players, cell phones, UGGs, expensive jewelry and clothing should be left at home. Cheerleader Only areas will be monitored by security but will not be under lock and key. GVSD, GVHS Cheerleading, competition personnel and /or any sponsor of this event will not be held responsible for lost or stolen items.
4 Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge Routine Requirements TIME REQUIREMENTS - 5 point deduction off the total score for running over a music or routine time limit. Deduction starts after the 1 st full second over. (i.e., If your routines times at 2 minutes and 32 seconds a 5 point deduction will be given.) - If a routine is interrupted by equipment failure, the team will be permitted to perform their routine from the point which the disruption occurred. High Schools, CYO Schools, and Recreational/Athletic Squads will be required to execute a routine up to 2 minutes 30 seconds that may include 1 minute and 30 seconds of music. All- music divisions will be created on an as- need basis. RULES, REGULATIONS, GUIDELINES - We will be following UCA/AACCA rules and regulations. To obtain an official copy of the rules, regulations and guidelines please refer to or o GVCC will allow basket tosses in ONLY the Junior, Senior and Super Senior Recreation divisions. o GVCC allows basket tosses in ONLY the High School divisions. No tosses will be allowed in Elementary, CYO or Middle School/Junior High divisions. - GVCC reserves the right to combine divisions if necessary. Safety - GVCC will follow UCA/NCA and AACCA rules safety/head judge will deduct 5 points per illegal move which can result in a change in your team s placement- please know the rules! - NO JEWELRY OR GLITTER! this will result in a 5 point penalty - Temporary spirit tattoos are allowed. - Squads are encouraged to perform skills within their ability level. - Certified Athletic Trainers will be on site at the competition. GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION Incomplete or Fraudulent Registration If a squad does not have a completed liability/waiver form for each participating cheerleader, or if a squad s roster is fraudulent, the squad will be disqualified. Payment in full, entry form, valid roster, and liability/waiver forms must be received before a squad will be allowed to compete. Inappropriate or Offensive Behavior by a Participant, Spectator, or Coach All squads will be responsible for the behavior of their participants, spectators and coaches. Inappropriate and/or offensive behavior will result in disqualification of the squad. This rule is in effect at all times during the competition, including the awards ceremony. No one is to approach a judge. All questions or concerns should be directed to the Event Chairperson. Alcohol and/ or Drugs and Smoking on School grounds- NOT PERMITTED Alcoholic beverages and/or drugs and/ or smoking are NOT PERMITTED on Garnet Valley School District property. Any violation of this rule will result in disqualification of your squad. Disqualification will result in immediate removal of the squad with no refund, t-shirts, or trophies. OTHER REQUIREMENT REMINDERS A Waiver of Liability/Medical Release Form is required for every participant the day of competition. Deadline for division changes is January 21st at 3:00pm. NO DIVISION CHANGES WILL BE MADE THE DAY OF THE COMPETITION FOR ANY REASON. Illegitimate rosters or failure to provide insurance waivers will result in disqualification w/ no refund. If you pull out of the competition for any reason no refund will be given; however the event T-shirts will still be available to you. Cheerleaders and coaches on your team roster can attend the competition as spectators at no cost.

7 WAIVER OF LIABILITY / MEDICAL / PUBLICITY RELEASE FORM FOR GARNET VALLEY CHEER CHALLENGE Please print legibly As ( cheerleader ) voluntarily participates in the Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge, as a member of ( squad name ) under the direction of ( coach ) understand the risks involved in cheerleading can result in injuries, sickness, accidents, and/or death. I ( parent or guardian ) hereby waive and absolve Garnet Valley High School, which includes but is not limited to all Garnet Valley High School administration, school board, coaches, teachers, staff, employees, parents, students, sponsors, and participants in the Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge of any and all liability and responsibility for injuries, sickness, accidents, and/or death incurred to cheerleader during his/her participation in the Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge. I parent or guardian do hereby acknowledge that cheerleader has insurance coverage and that I parent or guardian accept the financial responsibility for care and/ or treatment cheerleader should need in the case of an emergency during the Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge. I agree not to hold Garnet Valley High School, which includes all aforementioned persons in paragraph one, financially responsible for care and / or treatment needed in case of an injury, sickness, accident, and / or death to the above named participant. In consideration of my signed release allowing my child to participate in the Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge event, I intending to be legally bound, do hereby, my heirs, executor and administration, waive, release, and forever discharge any and all rights and claims for damage which I may have or which may hereafter accrue to me against Garnet Valley High School, which includes all aforementioned persons in paragraph one, for any and all damages which may be sustained or suffered by my child in connection with his/her association with or participation in the Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge. In the event of an emergency resulting in injury, accident, sickness, and / or death the designated emergency adult listed in the box below will be contacted. I parent or guardian hereby give my permission for cheerleader to be photographed, videotaped, and / or audio taped during the Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge. I further give permission for such photographs, videotapes, and audiotapes to be used in print or broadcast media as deemed appropriate for promotion of the Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge.
