Wednesdays At 12:15 South Hills Country Club 2655 S. Citrus St West Covina, CA 91791-3405 626-339-1231 A MESSAGE FROM OUR ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT RI President Ray Klinginsmith is encouraging all Rotarians to evaluate their clubs in the month of January. The purpose of this evaluation is to see if our own clubs are matching programs and activities to other clubs not only in our districts but worldwide. As each clubs president completes the Presidential Citation score sheet which is due by March 31, 2011, it will enable each club to use the score sheet as a checklist for many of the activities and programs being conducted by each club. This will enable presidents, officers and members to evaluate the practices of their club and make constructive changes resulting in a Bigger, Better and Bolder club! DECEMBER IS FAMILY MONTH!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CLUB PRESIDENT President Tony Song recapped on our End of the Year Celebration at the Covina Playhouse. It was a great turnout with almost all of our members in attendance. Our club enjoyed great food, laughter and fellowship in a beautiful venue. John Stubbs form the Rotary Club of Sierra Madre will be our guest speaker on December 22. His topic will be Booster Seats and Safety. Thank you, Lionel Mabasa for inviting Mr. Stubbs to speak at our club. President Song will be on vacation December 22 and December 29. Past President Phyllis McDonald will lead the meeting on December 22 and President-Elect Toni Villanueva will lead the meeting on December 29. Wishing all of you a Safe and Happy New Year! See you in 2011! SANTA CLAUS COMES TO TOWN! Rotary Club of West Covina held it s annual End of the Year Celebration at the beautiful Covina Playhouse in Covina. The evening began with delicious hors d oeuvres and cocktails consumed in front of a roaring fire. After a while, guests moved into the stunningly decorated main dining area where a sumptuous dinner was served and fellowship continued. Here s what happened next! Guests settled down to coffee, dessert and chatter, When at the front door, there arose such a clatter! The children all turned to see what was the matter! Shrieks of delight came from people big and small; Here comes Santa Claus Ho! Ho! Hoing! down the hall! Each child was encouraged to sit on his lap, And each was given a present from his magical sack! I don t know how he does it, but it happens every year, Santa not only brings presents but Fellowship, Love and Good Cheer! WISHING ALL OF YOU A HAPPY AND HEALTHY HOLIDAY SEASON!

GUEST SPEAKER LAST WEEK: JOHN STUBBS ON "BOOSTER SAFETY SEATS FOR YOUNG KIDS" BY KEN LUND Lionel Mabasa continued with his series of speakers this month, which is "Family Month" in the world of Rotary. John Stubbs, a fellow Rotarian in the Sierra Madre club, and a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician and Instructor, was our very well qualified speaker. John has also spent a number of years with the National Safety Council, so he's a very experienced safety professional. We all know about safety seats in cars for babies and really young children. But, when the kids get to be older, but far from being an adult, they don't fit children's seats and they are not large enough to safely use the adult seat belts in a car. In this "never-never land," they need something like a "booster seat" to be really safe. This seat, as shown, is a simple device costing about $20-$25. It is used in conjunction with the adult seat belt harness in a car. It raises up the body of the young person sufficiently so that the bottom (horizontal) portion of the seat belt loops under the short arms of the booster seat, which holds the seat belt close to the abdomen of the child for better support. At the same time, it positions the vertical part of the seat belt to properly align with the child's shoulder for upper body restraint. John is applying to our District for matching funds so that individual clubs may be able to distribute a number of these boosters to schools in the clubs' areas.
