The purpose of this evaluation is to see if our own clubs are matching programs and activities to other clubs not only in our districts but worldwide. As each clubs president completes the Presidential Citation score sheet which is due by March 31, 2011, it will enable each club to use the score sheet as a checklist for many of the activities and programs being conducted by each club. This will enable presidents, officers and members to evaluate the practices of their club and make constructive changes resulting in a Bigger, Better and Bolder club! GUEST SPEAKER LAST WEEK: JOHN STUBBS ON "BOOSTER SAFETY SEATS FOR YOUNG KIDS" BY KEN LUND Lionel Mabasa continued with his series of speakers this month, which is "Family Month" in the world of Rotary. John Stubbs, a fellow Rotarian in the Sierra Madre club, and a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician and Instructor, was our very well qualified speaker. John has also spent a number of years with the National Safety Council, so he's a very experienced safety professional. We all know about safety seats in cars for babies and really young children. But, when the kids get to be older, but far from being an adult, they don't fit children's seats and they are not large enough to safely use the adult seat belts in a car. In this "never-never land," they need something like a "booster seat" to be really safe. This seat, as shown, is a simple device costing about $20-$25. It is used in conjunction with the adult seat belt harness in a car. It raises up the body of the young person sufficiently so that the bottom (horizontal) portion of the seat belt loops under the short arms of the booster seat, which holds the seat belt close to the abdomen of the child for better support. At the same time, it positions the vertical part of the seat belt to properly align with the child's shoulder for upper body restraint. John is applying to our District for matching funds so that individual clubs may be able to distribute a number of these boosters to schools in the clubs' areas.
