Lori Anne Shoemaker, granddaughter of Margaret and Gerry Schueman, will be our Lucia this year. Lori Anne is in her freshman year at Osbourn Park High School (OPHS) in Manassas, VA. She was accepted into the two-year specialty program called The Pre-Governor's School @ OPHS. Upon acceptance into The Governor's School @ Innovation Park, at the Manassas Campus of George Mason University, she will be dualenrolled in college-level and high-school classes during her junior and senior years at OPHS. She is currently pursuing math, chemistry and physics as part of the STEM program. Page 4 of 7

RECENT EVENTS Our October meeting featured a discussion of Iceland from the perspective of Drott members Larilyn André, who visited in September, and Keith, Katrin, and Kevin Shoemaker who visited during the summer. Larilyn found that sometimes the Icelanders combined design and humor to trick you into confusing art with reality. It certainly brightens the long winter! "Golden Falls, is one of Iceland s many river, falls and gorge systems. There had been some discussion about harnessing the power, but a young girl walked to Reykjavik and told the government she would throw herself over the falls if they built a power plant. The idea was scrapped. Page 5 of 7
