FOUNDATION PHASE (U9-U11) TECHNICAL PROGRAMME BURY FOOTBALL CLUB ACADEMY 2015-16 AUTHOR: DEAN WRIGHT 1

FOUNDATION PHASE PHILOSOPHY The Bury F.C Academy Foundation Phase (Under 9 Under 11) philosophy will link in with the First Team and Academy philosophy to provide an introduction to our young players in a journey which will hopefully see them progress to Youth Development Phase and Professional Development Phase. Players will take part in technical practices to develop their ability to use both feet, receive the ball to play forward and play accurate passes to team mates. Players will also be encouraged to develop their skills in 1v1 situations in attack and defence. Practices will develop players ability to play effectively in tight areas and when under pressure from the opposition. Bury F.C Academy teams will attempt to play out from the back whenever possible and try to dominate possession using a pass and move style. In possession our teams will look to play into the attacking third whenever possible using quick, accurate and incisive passing allowing midfield players and full backs to break forward with purpose and intent. Players will be encouraged to move and interchange to create space and receive the ball. Teams will be encouraged to defend high up the pitch and win possession back early to set up counter attacking opportunities. As well as becoming technically proficient, Foundation Phase players will be introduced to tactical practices which will teach them the principles which will allow them to play this way. The Academy will employ specialist strength and conditioning coaches who will work with foundation phase players to improve physical literacy, fundamental movements, core strength and mobility to prepare them for the physical demands of the game. The values and playing style of the Academy are built on hard work and respect for the game. The Foundation Phase coaching programme will give players grounding on these principles as well as developing social characteristics. Coaches will create an environment where players feel comfortable and are allowed to make mistakes. Players should be encouraged to express themselves, be inquisitive and take ownership in their football. Our coaching style will allow for this. We aim to ensure our teams are competitive in every game they play but the games programme will be used as an extension to the coaching programme with development of players our main priority. We will commit to ensuring our players take part in at least 50% of all game time. All Bury F.C Academy players will demonstrate respect for their opponent, the referee, coaches, club officials and parents. They will play within the laws of the game. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated. Bury F.C players education begins at the Foundation Phase and to encourage the development of well rounded people all players must shake hands with their coach(es) on arrival and shake hands with coach(es) and team mates before leaving as well as ensuring they arrive on time and with clean kit. Overall the Bury F.C Academy Foundation Phase programme will encourage our players to develop good habits in their technical ability, attitude, conduct and manner to enable their progression through the system. 2 The Bury F.C Academy is committed to providing the best support possible for our players in the areas of coaching, sport science, medicine, education, welfare and facilities.
