It is hard for me to grasp that September is here already! Where has summer gone? The leaves are starting to change and before too long we will have to start thinking about that S word! I know for me summer is never long enough. I wait with eager anticipation for warm weather and car events to start up again every spring! Not to worry though! We still have some big things coming up before the end of the year. I just returned from the Pontiac Uprising event held in Great Bend Kansas. As usual it was a great event and a good time was had by all who attended. This event was September 7Th and 8th. This year we were plagued by a bit of rain. It kept the attendance numbers down a bit. The rain cleared however and we were able to complete the event. This year there was a strong contingency from Colorado. Myself, my dad and sister, Bob Pope, Jack and Lee Roy George, Paul Dreyer, Jay Robinson, Terry and Patty Henry, and Bill and Chris Lewis all made the trip. If you have never attended this event I strongly encourage you too. It is always a good show, race, and swap meet put on by the great people of the Wichita Pontiac Club. There is one final Club Clash Race this season. It has been moved from September 21st to the 28th due to some scheduling conflicts. If you haven t been out to a race yet this season please come out for the last one. Run your car down the quarter mile or just hang out with an awesome group of people and show support. It is a great time even if you choose not to race. Sunday September 23rd is the Gathering of the Goats and club picnic at Berthoud Park. Flyers for this event have already been sent out, and I believe a second flyer will be attached to this newsletter. It starts at 11am. The Club will be supplying the meat, and we ask everyone to bring a side dish to share. We had an amazing turn out last year and a lot of beautiful cars. I would love to see an even more impressive display this year. We have invited the Denver club to this with hope to see some of those folks as well. At the November meeting we will have officer nominations, so please plan on attending. If you have someone that you would like to nominate for a position on the board please do not hesitate. We are always looking for new blood. Board members for 2019 will be voted on and announced at the Christmas party. Speaking of the Christmas party.. We need to make a decision on this at the October meeting. We need a date, time, and location. If any of you have something in mind please attend the October meeting to bring ideas forward to the group. It has been a great summer, and lets finish the year out strong!!! As always if you have event ideas for the future please bring them forward. We are always looking for new ideas. Until next time! Adios, Jared Warnock NCGTOA President Www.ncgtoa.com Page #8

I have to say I was blown away by the whole event. The hosts were more than accommodating, the racers were as always - friendly, approachable, willing to lend a hand if needed, and the track was a place out of the past, frozen in time with it s memories. This was the very first track in this Country to ever hold a sanctioned NHRA event, way back in the early 50 s. Sitting there, I could only imagine the names that frequented this track lost in the middle of Kansas. There is nothing fancy about it, the staging lanes are flat, not like Bandimere where you can roll to the burnout box, and the return road is a full 3/4 mile down the track, making for a very LONG gas consuming drive back to the pits. Days before we got there, I heard one local saying they had 8 of rain in one day. This made anything that was not covered by asphalt or concrete very soggy. The humidity was unbelievable! This also made for problems with the timing lights, as they were flooded underground making the wiring short out. We got in time runs using only one side of the track - the one that worked, as they tried their best to fix the other side. Unfortunately, they were unable to fix it for the 1/4 mile racing, but it was working for the 1/8th mile, so to keep everyone there and racing, that is exactly what we did - eliminations were run at a 1/4 mile. This obviously is not conducive to our types of cars, they are made to run out a full 1/4 mile. So - it became a race of who could get the best reaction time. I unfortunately got set up beside Sharon Wilhite (if you don t know who she and her husband are, you need to get to the track more - google it). I dialed a 7.00 for the 1/8th, and ran a 7.002 A helluva a good run if I say so myself! BUT - as I stated, it was more about the reaction time - and she bested me by.009. I loose by.007 seconds.. That is racing!! The best thing to come out of it other that hanging out with some amazing friends, from the club and those who I met there, was I was able to get that bucket of Bolts (my 64 Tempest) into the 10 s with a best time of 10.97, @ 123 87 mph. Not too shabby!! I would HIGHLY recommend attending this annual event, it is a lot of fun, only takes roughly 7 hours to get there, and the best thing about it is the people that you get the pleasure of hanging around with. Racers are a breed of their own. Www.ncgtoa.com Page #9
