January 2019 Palm Harbor Museum Operated By The Palm Harbor Historical Society 2 0 1 9 P R O G R A M S A N D P E O P L E We celebrate accomplishments as we look ahead to inspiration and activity in 2019! Your Palm Harbor Museum is a family friendly destination where all ages learn about community history. Our exhibits and programs provide invaluable and irreplaceable context in guiding us forward. Our effort is team dependent and requires your involvement. If we don t use and support our museum our community history can become neglected. It could even become forgotten! Please consider how you will step up to be a partner. You can assist us in building membership support, participating in volunteer opportunities, creating business collaboration with local organizations for our museum. Consider now how YOU will interact with this important resource, our landmark Palm Harbor Museum, that enriches our quality of life. In 2019 you will have a chance to pleasantly expand your knowledge and awareness. Come witness Alex Casano s sharing of his photographic documentation of area landmarks, marvel at Sharon Kirby Lamm s deep and wide involvement in doing journalistic research, be spellbound as John Chase tells the inimitable experience of living on his grandfather s grove property as Highland Lakes was created into the development we take for granted today. Mark your calendar for these opportunities that will connect and inspire you. Meet Me at the Museum! Alex Casano Has published 3 books Sharon Kirby Lamm Wrote Diversions for TBT John Chase Has many stories of Early Palm Harbor development F A R E W E L L S A N D T H A N K Y O U S SUSAN LATVALA, PRESIDENT As I step down as President of the Palm Harbor Historical Society, I want to take a moment to thank the many Board members ( past and present) and the countless volunteers that have worked so hard, giving their time and resources, to maintain our wonderful museum. You only have to spend a short time in the museum when we are open, to encounter someone who had no idea of the history of our area or who didn t know that our history has been preserved. This past Saturday, a woman brought her Mother in for the first time. As I walked them through the museum and pointed out highlights, she began sharing some of her memories. She knew so many people in the pictures and had her own stories to share of growing up in Curlew. She cried several times during her visit and graciously thanked me for making her memories come to life. I thank all of you and look forward to continuing to help keep this wonderful resourse available to the public. BRENDA MATTHEWS, OPERATIONS MANAGER I have enjoyed this opportunity to spend time at the Museum learning more about the history of Palm Harbor. As a native of Palm Harbor, I always knew our family had deep roots to the area and while at the Museum I learned that they traced back to the Whitehurst family. The Museum is an important asset for everyone in the area and I plan to continue to volunteer and stay involved as much as I can while I care for the next generation which is my grandson who was born in September.
