It will be the fourth game of the season for the Red Foxes against a ranked opponent, all having been in the Top-15. Marist is looking for its second regular season win all-time against a ranked opponent and, with a win, will finish above.500 in non-conference play for the eighth time in the past nine years. LAST TIME OUT Marist, paced by four players in double figures, used a 13-4 run over the final 6:13 of the game to pull away at Yale for a 62-50 win on Thursday, Dec. 20. It was the first road win of the season for the Red Foxes. Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) led all players with 14 points on 7-10 shooting from the field. She also grabbed a season-high seven rebounds and set a personal best with five steals. Kristina Danella (Manalapan, N.J.), starting in place of Emma O Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.), finished with 12 points and tied Ockenden with seven boards. Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.), playing in front of a large contingent of friends and family, scored 10 points, all in the first half, and had a game-high four assists. Sydney Coffey (New Hope, Minn.) came off the bench and had 10 points including 4-5 from the free throw line. Marist shot 46% (25-55) from the floor for the game, assisting on 16 of those made field goals, and outrebounded Yale 39-35. For her efforts, Ockenden was named the MAAC Player of the Week on Monday. It was the first weekly award of her career and second of the season for the Red Foxes as Coffey was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week back on Nov. 19. PROBABLE STARTERS No. Name Pos. Ht. Yr. After finishing second in the MAAC last season with a.486 field goal percentage, Beynnon is shooting at a.435 clip so far this season, inlcuindg a.543 FG% over the past five games. She holds two of the top-ten spots for single game field goal percentage in Marist history. Against Wake Forest on 11/24, Beynnon hit an incredibe eight of nine (.889) shots from the field, good for a tie for fourth all-time. She knocked herself down a peg as last year, when she was known as Kelsey, she shot 10-12 (.833) from the field versus Canisius on Feb. 17 which is now tied for 9th all-time. Western Kentucky NR RANKED OPPONENTS Marist is 1-16 all-time versus ranked opponents when the matchup has come during the regular season. After not playing a ranked opponent in for the past two seasons, the Red Foxes have already played three top-25 teams this year, falling to #14/12 Purdue (71-50), #2 UConn (81-39) and #12 Oklahoma (68-55). Their one win however came in their last game prior to this season when they beat #21 Nebraska 63-60 in the 2009-2010 season. STARTING LINEUPS After using eight different lineups all of last season, Head Coach Brian Giorgis has already used five different starting lineups this year. The only two players that have stayed locked in the starting five are Leanne Ockenden at guard and Elizabeth Beynnon at forward. Casey Dulin has started all but one game as she was not in the starting five versus Princeton due to back spasms. Emma O Connor did not play at Yale on Dec. 20 due to a sprained wrist. Natalie Gomez has started each game but the first two as the point. Kristina Danella has made two starts while Kristine Best and Sydney Coffey have all also made one start. Coffey made her first career start in just her third career game, becoming the fastest player to join the starting lineup in Giorgis tenure. RANKED AMONGST THE MID-MAJORS After receiving one vote in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll, the Red Foxes moved up to as many as seven votes after the first weekend of games. HEAD COACH BRIAN GIORGIS 11th SEASON CAREER RECORD: 256-78 (.766) 6-TIME MAAC COACH OF THE YEAR Since arriving on Marist s campus prior to the 2002-03 season, Giorgis has taken the Red Foxes from a team struggling to reach.500 to national prominence. With his first team in 2002-03, a squad which had lost the fourth- and fifth-leading scorers in program history to graduation the prior year, Giorgis improved the Red Foxes win total from 11 to 13. Marist also earned its first win in a MAAC Tournament game in school history with a first-round triumph over Loyola. Here is a list of accomplishments the Red Foxes have achieved since Giorgis first season: Nine consecutive 20-win seasons, six straight 25-win seasons. Two 30+ win seasons (2007-08, 2010-11), including a program record 32 wins in 2007-08 Two perfect 18-0 records in the MAAC (2007-08, 2010-11) MAAC record 35-game winning streak against conference opponents (including postseason) between the 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons. Also had a 34-game MAAC winning streak between the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons. Both streaks are the only ones in MAAC history to reach the 30-game plateau. Nine winning streaks of 10 or more games, including two separate streaks in 2011-12. Twice have those streaks extended to 20 or more consecutive wins, including 27 in a row in 2010-11, which was the longest in the nation at the time. 25-2 record in the MAAC Tournament, including 20 consecutive wins. The Red Foxes were 0-5 before Giorgis arrival. 5-8 record in the NCAA Tournament, including becoming the first MAAC program to reach the Sweet 16. Seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances is the longest active streak in the country of any school that does not belong to the SEC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 or ACC. Marist has ranked in the top 50 in the nation in scoring defense in each of the last eight seasons, including leading all of NCAA Division I in 2010-11 with a 49.7 PPG/Allowed average. Marist has ranked in the top 20 in the nation in fewest turnovers per game each of the last seven seasons. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year six times - four times outright (2003-04, 2007-08, 2010-11, 2011-12), and a share of the award on two other occasions (2004-05, 2005-06). Inducted into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. Prior to his arrival at Marist, Giorgis enjoyed a tremendous amount of success at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie. As the head girls basketball coach at Lourdes, Giorgis posted an astounding record of 451-44 in his 19 seasons, good for a winning percentage of.911. He won nine state championships with the Warriors. In his last two years, his teams posted a combined mark of 56-2 and earned the top ranking in the Madison Square Garden Tri-State Area Poll each year. Giorgis has earned two WBCA Region One Coach of the Year honors and two Coach of the Year awards from the New York State Coaches Association. He led Lourdes to the league title all 19 of his seasons there and won 15 Section I crowns, with the last 11 coming consecutively. Giorgis achievements at Lourdes were not limited to the basketball court. He is the only coach in state history to take teams in four different sports to the state Final Four, as he also guided the baseball, softball and volleyball teams there. His softball squad captured the state crown in 1990. Additionally, Giorgis coached golf and tennis at Lourdes and served as athletic director for 10 years. GIORGIS BY THE NUMBERS 4 - Giorgis ranks 4th among active Division I coaches in winning percentage with a mark of.775. 9 - The Red Foxes have won nine consecutive MAAC Regular Season Titles. 17 - The Red Foxes reached a ranking 17th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll in the 2011-12 season.
