What happens at RibFest? Of course, RibFest is mostly about the mouthwatering ribs, chicken and other meat products expertly prepared by some of Canada s top ribbers. But RibFest offers many other attractions to provide patrons with a pleasant outing. These include the following: Free Admission RibFest admission is free. Donations are encouraged to support Rotary s work in the community. In 2018, patrons willingly donated more than $15,000, showing their strong support for Rotary s work in the community. Free Children s Activities The free children s activity area includes bouncy gyms, petting zoo and pony ride. Many families have expressed their thanks for this feature. Food and Other Vendors Food vendors sell a variety of products ranging from pie and ice cream to corn-on-the-cob. Other vendors offer various forms of merchandise and promotional or informational displays. Beer Garden The beer garden sells beer and coolers. The entire RibFest site is covered by the liquor license. Entertainment Stage The entertainment stage showcases a variety of local talent. 50/50 Draw The popular 50/50 draw paid $7,555 in 2018. Ribber Awards Patrons can vote for their favorite ribber for the People s Choice Award. A panel of celebrities chooses the winners of the Judges Award.
Since 2013, RibFest has established itself as an important event in Saskatoon s busy summer festival season. As shown in Table 1, RibFest offers sponsors the opportunity to reach 20,000 plus patrons over the four days of the August long weekend. Who attends RibFest? In 2018, an estimated 23% were children 12 or under, indicating that RibFest is a very family friendly event. Many parents have commented on how much they appreciate the free children s activity area. As shown in Table 2, data collected through the People s Choice Award voting-bytext in 2018 indicated that more than 60% patrons are Saskatoon residents, but that significant support is also received from out-of-town visitors both from elsewhere in the province and from outside of Saskatchewan. Each August long weekend, RibFest operates on Friday from 4-9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. 9 p.m.; and Monday 11 a.m. 7 p.m. The busiest times are from about 5-7 p.m. Businesses and organizations have found that the best way to get the most out of their RibFest sponsorship is to be on site, showing their corporate colors. Opportunities include volunteer work, such as selling 50/50 tickets, demonstrating products or distributing samples. Your sponsorship gives you the opportunity to make direct contact with 20,000 potential customers or clients! Support your community RibFest profits achieved by the Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana are directed towards Saskatoon agencies working in the areas of youth, First Nations, literacy and education. Organizations supported by the Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana include St. Frances Cree Bilingual School, Oskayak High School, Restorative Action Program (RAP), Saskatoon Indian & Métis Friendship Centre, Princess Alexandra Pre-School, Sherbrooke Community Centre, and Read Saskatoon. As RibFest results depend on many factors, including the weather, profits vary significantly from year to year. The club's aim is to generate $100,000 for such purposes in each four-year period.
