In more than fifty years of existence, the Joffrey Ballet School has remained on the forefront of American dance education. Feed your obsession at one of our BALLET Summer Intensives NYC Ballet Intensive New York City (Ages 10-25) June 9 to July 27, 2013 (1 7 week sessions) Our flagship intensive in New York City taught by our master instructors that culminates in a professionally produced theater performance. The intensive focuses on classical ballet technique, pointe, variations and partnering in the morning. Afternoon classes consist of modern, contemporary dance and ballet, character, nutrition, and rehearsals for the performance. Conditioning classes such as Pilates and yoga for dancers are also offered. In New York students will be exposed to its unparalleled dance community, with opportunities to see performances by major ballet companies, such as American Ballet Theater and New York City Ballet, as well as other exciting modern and contemporary dance companies. Young Dancer Ballet Intensives New York City (Ages 10 15) June 9 to August 3, 2013 (2 week sessions) The Young Dancer Intensives focus on classical ballet technique and pointe, in the morning, with an array of afternoon classes including Horton, Modern and Hip Hop classes, Ballet Character, Body Conditioning and Improvisation. Several sessions are offered, varying in length from one to two weeks. These intensives are designed to prepare the student for the level of technique and artistry required for the pre-professional level Summer Intensives. NYC Pre-Professional Ballet Intensive New York City (Ages 14 25) August 18 to August 31, 2013 (2 week sessions) The Professional/Pre-professional program is an advanced ballet boot camp offered by the Joffrey Ballet School. Designed for both professionals and pre-professionals to get them back in shape, the program will prepare them for the full year of dancing they have ahead. Geared for the most advanced students as well as professionals, the days will consist of an advanced ballet technique class, a pointe or partnering class, and a variations or contemporary class. The program faculty will include established choreographers and repetiteurs to work with the dancers on choreography and repertory during the afternoon class. The dancers will receive personalized coaching in these classes Housing and Meals All of our programs offer housing in modern dormitories in safe neighborhoods or university campuses. Our staff supervises the students in the facilities. Optional meal plans are offered at all locations. Students may apply to be exempt from our housing facilities and commute if they prefer.
Joffrey South - Georgia Georgia offers a safe suburban university campus environment alternative to New York City with the same quality of training. Trainee - Advanced Workshop Georgia College, Milledgeville (Ages 15 to 21) June 9 to June 29, 2013 (1-3 week sessions) This Joffrey South Workshop offers advanced students ages 15-21 a three-week, in-depth ballet experience. Daily technique will be offered in ballet, pointe, variations, pas der deux, broadway, jazz and new choreography. On the final day of the program students will perform in a demonstration on the stage at Russell Auditorium. Students attending this Joffrey South Workshop will be considered for enrollment in the Joffrey Ballet School s year-long program in New York City. Emphasis will also be placed upon body conditioning. The goal is to train young dancers in the classical ballet technique, artistry and versatility required for an active career in a professional company. Further, the Trainee Program frequently provides disciplined dancers with the opportunity to perform in professional arenas while continuing their training. The Trainee Program demands a deep commitment on the part of the students. Junior Trainee - Intermediate Workshop Georgia College, Milledgeville (Ages 11 to 16) June 9 to June 29, 2013 (1-3 week sessions) The Joffrey South Workshop offers intermediate students ages 11-16 a one-to-three-week, in-depth ballet experience. Daily technique will be offered in ballet, pointe, variations, and new choreography. This workshop will culminate in a student demonstration on the final day of the third week. This is a wonderful introduction to summer dance away from the familiarity of the student s home studio. Students participate in six, twelve or eighteen days of ballet, pointe, and variations, augmented with a foot care seminar, history of ballet, and other dance related classes. Emphasis will also be placed upon body conditioning. Young Dancer Program Georgia College, Milledgeville (Ages 9 to 13) June 9 to June 13, 2013 (1-2 week sessions) The Joffrey Ballet School s Young Dancer ballet intensive in Georgia is designed for young students with a love for dance and that want to immerse themselves in the art of ballet. This program gives youngest beginning dance students a taste of the intensive routine, while only spending two weeks away from home. This intensive is designed to prepare the student for the level of technique and artistry required for the Junior Trainee Summer Intensive. Students are systematically taught ballet exercises at the barre and center floor, progressing towards more complex combinations. Each two week session program sets similar goals as its New York counterpart, educating the young dancer in vital principles of ballet and fostering an age-appropriate environment that will excite students about a future in dance. Classes will continue as recreational/enrichment dance classes. Joffrey West - Los Angeles Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Contemporary California State University, Northridge (Ages 10 to 25) June 17 to July 26, 2013 (1-6 week sessions) The intensive in Los Angeles with our master instructors, featuring Mia Michaels (of So You Think You Can Dance fame), which culminates in a red carpet performance at the Valley Performing Arts Center, Cal State Northridge. Morning classes focus on ballet, consisting of technique, pointe, variations, and partnering. Afternoon classes consist of modern, contemporary dance, nutrition, and conditioning classes. Mia Michaels will be instructing all levels of the intensive s performance sessions and choreographing for the production. Joffrey San Francisco Contemporary Ballet San Francisco State University, San Francisco (Ages 12 to 25) July 21 to August 3,2013 (1-2 week sessions) The intensive in San Francisco is the new Fusion of a true Classical Contemporary Ballet Intensive. This Intensive is a unique fusion of dance rooted in strong classical ballet training with modern and contemporary techniques incorporated. It is a unique and a forward thinking Contemporary Ballet Intensive. Daily classes are taught in technique, pointe, contemporary, modern and the Blender which is an integrated class taught by the entire faculty together as a team where we blend our styles and techniques in a lab like fashion to further enhance and deepen all the information they receive daily. They will then apply this knowledge through choreographic phrases and improv techniques. Online registrants receive a 10% discount. Otherwise you can register in person one hour before the beginning of the audition. We ONLY accept cash payments, no credit cards or checks. What to bring to the audition Students auditioning for a ballet program, please bring a 5 x 7 picture in 1st arabesque to the audition. Please wear tights, ballet shoes and a leotard of any color. Students on pointe should bring their pointe shoes. Boys wear black tights and a white or black t-shirt. Students auditioning for a jazz and contemporary program, please bring a 5 x 7 picture of the student jumping with your face visible to the audition. Please wear a leotard and either tights or shorts, and bring both ballet and jazz shoes or sneakers. Digital Video Submissions We accept digital video auditions for all programs. Do you have what it takes? AUDITION FOR SUMMER WITH A MASTER CLASS This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be taught by a World Famous Instructors. These classes are for the dancer that wants to be challenged. These classes also serve as an audition for all Summer and Trainee Programs. SPACE IS HIGHLY LIMITED and will not exceed 100 dancers.
