STEWARDS REPORT Wyong Race Club WYONG RACECOURSE Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Rail: Out 2m entire circumference Sunday 28 January 2018 STEWARDS: D M Greer (Chairman), D L Carr, J J Earl and cadet F T Dale (mkm) Supplementary Report: KEMBLA GRANGE: Saturday, 27 January 2018 RACE 2: Supply Class 1 and Maiden Plate 2400m Chavin trainer J Cummings advised that a veterinary examination on return to the stables revealed the gelding to have a bad overreach of the off fore leg and to have sustained a quarter crack to its off fore hoof. Mr Cummings advised that Chavin would now be spelled. Acting on this assurance no further action was taken. LATE RIDING CHANGES: As J Adams was indisposed due to illness, the following rider substitutions were approved: Race 4 K Latham on Dark Haze Race 5 J Penza on Dowell Cheval Race 7 R Murray on Jagger RACE 1 Gosford Classic Car Museum Maiden Handicap 1350m Waldo Waldorf was a late withdrawal at 8.00am by order of the Stewards. Trainer N Mayfield-Smith was fined $200 under LR36A for failing to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time. Membership after being slightly slow to begin was crowded shortly after by Absolute which shifted in. Subtle Grey rider A Gibbons explained that after being slow to begin his mount did not travel comfortably at any stage throughout the event and was under pressure from as far out as the 700m. He said Subtle Grey was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn, raced flat and was disappointing in the manner in which it finished its race off. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 2 The Property Market Class 1 Handicap 1350m Manhattan Mist the gelding, which momentarily got its off hind leg on up the running board, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to start. High Power began awkwardly and lost ground (2L). When the pace slackened approaching the 1000m had to be steadied away from the heels of Manhattan Mist. When questioned regarding the performance apprentice J Van Overmeire explained that that his mount travelled well in the run, however for some distance approaching the home turn commenced to hang out and became awkward on the heels of Arrossire and had to be checked. He said on straightening when he was able to obtain clear running High Power hung in, proved difficult to ride out and, in his opinion, was one paced in the run to the finish. He added that High Power would be better suited on a bigger track over increased distance. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Arrossire when questioned regarding the performance, G Buckley explained that when, in his opinion, the pace was slow approaching the 1100m, and when his mount was inclined to overrace, he allowed it to stride forward and take up a position outside the lead where Arrossire travelled more comfortably. He said however from the 400m when Manhattan Mist quickened he was unable to improve his position
and weakened noticeably thereafter. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering mild heat stress. RACE 3 Fashion Eight Fascinators Class 1 Handicap 1100m Leogang slow to begin. Bridyn May When questioned rider L Cumberland explained that his mount was inclined to hang out from the 400m and due to this he was obliged to correct his mount whilst continuing to ride it along. He said approaching the 300m however his saddle shifted to the mare's offside resulting in him becoming badly unbalanced and losing his offside iron which resulted in the mare shifting out abruptly and losing ground. He added that it was not until approaching the 150m that he was able to regain the use of his offside iron. In this incident Fortune Star, which was positioned to the outside of Bridyn May, was severely checked, taken very wide and lost ground. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer S Aspery was told that a warning would be placed on the racing record of Bridyn May for hanging out. Fortune Star in the early part of the straight was severely checked and taken very wide by Bridyn May. Tennessee Tango when questioned regarding the performance. J Parr explained that his mount, which was slightly slow to begin, settled back in the field as anticipated, however did not travel comfortably at any stage throughout the event. He said that his mount was under pressure from as far out as the 600m and after riding vigorously from that point Tennessee Tango responded only fairly to his riding in the run to the finish and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 4 Bendigo Community Bank Maiden Handicap 1200m Could I Be trainer K Waugh was fined $100 under LR 35(2) for the late declaration of T Clark as the rider. Raced wide without cover throughout the event and near the 400m became unbalanced when bumped by Nai'a which shifted out. The Exchequer began awkwardly and then was crowded shortly after the start by Mahervellous which shifted in. Was inclined to hang out making the home turn. Mahervellous slow to begin. Yes Madam was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages. Dark Haze hung out rounding the home turn. Nai'a was held up for a short distance inside the 400m and hung out rounding the home turn. Buckle Up hung out when placed under pressure in the straight obliging its rider to pull the whip through to her left hand near the 150m. Queachy A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which raced wide without cover throughout, did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 5 Central Coast Mariners 3yo Maiden Plate 1000m Kaffka began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and crowded Timion. Approaching the first turn near the 700m, after racing in restricted room, had to be steadied when crowded by Deity (G Schofield) which commenced to hang in and shifted in away from Invincible Kiss despite the efforts of G Schofield. G Schofield was told to exercise more care. Deity slow to begin. Grand Exit after being slightly slow to begin was steadied and taken back behind runners shortly after the start to obtain cover.
Dowell Cheval near the 800m was steadied when hampered by Invincible Kiss (J Grisedale) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. J Grisedale was told to exercise more care. For some distance approaching the 600m, when inclined to lay in, had to be steadied when crowded by Deity which shifted out off the fence. Hemingway raced wide without cover throughout the event. Invincible Kiss A post race veterinary examination of the filly, which was beaten 22 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer E Holland was advised that the filly must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. RACE 6 Central Coast Bendigo Banks Benchmark 67 Handicap 1000m Sojournist as declared rider apprentice J Innes Jnr was indisposed due to illness, permission was granted for apprentice R King to be substituted. Music Magic failed to arrive on course due to transport difficulties and was a late withdrawal at 3.33pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Music Magic be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 3.33pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1st) Shudabeen less 4c win and 5c place 2nd) Enjoyable less 6c place Ready For Love slow to begin. Held up for some distance making the home turn. Sojournist slow to begin. Was held up for some distance making the home turn. Enjoyable slow to begin and raced wide without cover throughout. Musical Query near the 400m was steadied when crowded for room between Ready For Love, which shifted out marginally, and Enjoyable, which was inclined to lay in and shifted in. When questioned regarding the performance. Apprentice M Weir explained that her mount was reluctant to race in between runners and for some distance making the first turn was inclined to hang in and raced ungenerously. She said that after being steadied near the 400m she was able to shift to the outside of Enjoyable, however Musical Query then commenced to lay in and was disappointing in its failure to finish its race off. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Billabong Cindy inside the 100m had to be steadied when crowded for room by Ready For Love (C Brown) which shifted in under pressure. C Brown was told to exercise more care. RACE 7 2GO's Breakfast With Mandy And Akmal In 2018 Benchmark 60 Handicap 2100m Apache Lad overraced in the lead from the 1600m. Prince High for some distance making the home turn was held up and on straightening was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Jagger. Macmissile from the 500m was badly held up behind the weakening Apache Lad and was continually checked to avoid that runner's heels and ultimately did not obtain clear running until approaching the 100m. Suggestapartner was held up for some distance making the home turn behind the weakening Go One More. Yulong Baohu was held up rounding the home turn and did not obtain clear running until near the 200m. Jagger raced wide without cover throughout the event.
Go One More When questioned rider J Penza stated that his mount was slow to begin however despite this he was able to take up the lead in the early stages where his mount travelled well and ultimately in a position behind Apache Lad after that runner improved and took up the lead after the 1600m. He added however that his mount was under pressure from the 800m and was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 8 Event Cinemas Tuggerah Maiden Plate 1600m Follow On as declared rider A Hyeronimus was indisposed due to illness, permission was granted for T Clark to be substituted. Karlu Dreaming began awkwardly. Little Renegade began awkwardly and blundered shortly after the start after striking the heels of Piccata, which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Piccata began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Rider G Schofield reported that his mount travelled well in the race, however when placed under pressure from the 400m his mount commenced to hang out and did not respond to his riding. He stated that when his mount was showing no response to his continued urgings he desisted from riding his mount out over the final 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame 1/5 in the near fore leg and 2/5 in the off fore leg. Stable representative T Ball was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to Piccata's next race start. Mr Ball undertook to report back on the immediate racing future of the filly. Art Of More overraced for some distance in the early and middle stages and got its head up. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Julie Magic for a short distance near the 300m became awkwardly placed close to the heels of Weaving Magic and had to be shifted back to the inside of that runner to continue into clear running. Annie Saturday approaching the 100m was steadied when crowded for room between Julie Magic (G Buckley) which shifted out marginally, and California Fox (C Reith) which shifted in marginally. Both G Buckley and C Reith were told to exercise more care.
