MATERIAL SAFETY DATASHEET 1. CHEMICAL PRODUCT & COMPANY IDENTIFICATION Chemical Name: COCONUT BASE ACTIVATED CARBON Chemical Family: Carbon Formula: Carbon Manufacturer Information: Indocarb Corporation Inc. 651 Holiday Drive, Suite 300 Foster Plaza 5 Pittsburgh, PA 15220 P : 412-928-4970 F : 412-928-4973 FOR EMERGENCIES, CONTACT CHEMTREC 1-800-424-9300 NOTE: CHEMTREC emergency telephone number is to be used in the event of chemical emergencies involving a spill, leak, fire, exposure, or accident involving chemicals. All non-emergency questions should be directed to customer service. 2. COMPOSITION/INGREDIENT DESCRIPTION CAS No.: 7440-44-0 Component: Activated Carbon (Coconut Shell) Concentration(%): 90-100 This product is considered non-hazardous by criteria specified in 29 CFR 1910.1200 (Hazard Communication 3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION Physical Appearance and Odor: Product is odorless, black granular or powder material. Emergency Overview : May be irritating to eyes, skin and respiratory tract. High airborne dust concentrations may pose an explosion hazard. Wet activated carbon present in a confined space may produce an oxygen deficient atmosphere and presents a risk of asphyxiation to persons entering those areas. Potential Health Effects: Eyes: Contact may produce mechanical eye irritation. Skin: Skin irritation would not be expected from single short-term exposure to this product. Prolonged or repeated contact may produce some irritation. Ingestion: Ingestion of this product may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and constipation. Small amounts of this product in solution, if aspirated into the lungs, may cause mild to severe pulmonary injury, possibly death. Inhalation: Overexposure to dusts may produce irritation of the respiratory system. Wet activated carbon may cause asphyxiation by adsorbing oxygen from confined spaces. HMIS Ratings: Health: 1 Fire: 1 Reactivity: 1 Pers. Prot.: safety glasses with side shields, impervious gloves for prolonged contact Hazard Scale: 0 = Minimal 1 = Slight 2 = Moderate 3 = Serious 4 = Severe * = Chronic hazard Issue Date: 03/20/2008 Page 1 of 5

4. FIRST AID MEASURES Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with water for 15 minutes intermittently lifting the lower and upper eyelids. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Skin Exposure: Wash with soap and large amounts of water. Launder clothes before reuse. Seek medical attention if irritation persists. Inhalation: Overexposure to dusts may produce irritation of the respiratory system. Move person to fresh air immediately. Seek medical attention if irritation persists. Ingestion: If ingested get immediate medical attention or advice. Do not induce vomiting unless instructed to do so by medical personnel. If vomiting occurs, keep victim s head lower than hips to avoid aspiration. First Aid: Notes to Physician This product in solution, if aspirated into the lungs, may cause pneumonitis; treat the affected person appropriately. 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Flash point: Not Available Lower Flammable Limit: Not Available Upper Flammable Limit: Not Available General Fire Hazards: Contact with strong oxidizers such as ozone, liquid oxygen, chlorine, permanganate, etc. may result in fire. Accumulation of airborne dust may present an explosion or fire hazard in the presence of an ignition source. Hazardous Combustion Products: Upon combustion, this product may emit carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and/or low molecular weight hydrocarbons. Other materials adsorbed onto the carbon may also be released during combustion. Extinguishing Media: Dry chemical, foam, carbon dioxide, water fog. Fire Fighting Equipment/Instructions: Firefighters should wear full protective clothing including self contained breathing apparatus. NFPA Ratings: Health = 0 Reactivity = 0 Flammability = 0 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Evacuation Procedures and Safety: Use the appropriate personal protective equipment when working with dust. Cleanup and Disposal of Spill: Do not allow the material to enter sewerage system or open waters. Sweep up, using a dust suppressant agent, or vacuum spilled material. Wear appropriate protective gear and clothing during clean-up. Waste Disposal Method: Dispose of all waste in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. No EPA Waste Numbers are applicable for this product s components. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Maximum Storage Temperatures: Ambient temperature Handling: CAUTION! Material may remove oxygen from the air causing a severe hazard. Sampling needs to be conducted before entering any confined space that may contain or once contained material. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Persons with a history of respiratory sensitization should not work with, or near, this material. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. Use good housekeeping practices. Issue Date: 03/20/2008 Page 2 of 5

Storage: Keep the container tightly closed and in a cool, well-ventilated place. Store away from heat, ignition sources, combustible materials and incompatible materials. 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure Guidelines: A: General Product Information: Exposures should be minimized in accordance with good industrial hygiene practices. The manufacturer recommends that exposure limits for nuisance dusts be followed. The OSHA PEL for the respirable fraction is 5 mg/m3(twa) and for total dust the OSHA PEL is 15 mg/m3 (TWA). The ACGIH threshold limit value for Particulates Not Otherwise Classified (PNOC) is 10 mg/m3(twa). B: Component Exposure Limits: Activated Carbon (Coconut Shell) (7440-44-0) NIOSH: No established RELs - see Appendix D Engineering Controls: Ventilation should be sufficient to effectively remove and prevent buildup of airborne dusts. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Eyes/Face: Wear safety glasses with side shields. Skin: Wear impervious gloves for prolonged contact. Respiratory: If ventilation is not sufficient to effectively remove and prevent buildup of dusts, appropriate NIOSH/MSHA approved respiratory protection should be provided. Confined spaces containing wet activated carbon may be oxygen deficient atmospheres, use appropriate protective measures. General: Use good industrial hygiene practices in handling this material. 9. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Appearance: Black granules or powder Odor: Odorless Physical State: Solid ph: Not applicable Vapor Pressure:Not applicable Vapor Density: Not applicable Boiling Point: Not available Melting Point: 3500 C Solubility(H2O):Insoluble Specific Gravity:0.38-0.44 @ 25 C Freezing Point: Not available 10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Chemical Stability: Stable Conditions to be Avoided: Avoid accumulation of airborne dusts. Dusts may be explosive when exposed to heat, flame, ignition sources, combustible material and incompatible materials. Materials/Chemicals to be Avoided: Strong oxidizers, organic acids (examples include acetic acid, citric acid, etc.), mineral acids and hydrocarbons.
