WATER CONTROL SYSTEM The Ground Force Water Control System (WCS) display/control module allows the operator to continually adjust the water delivery based on the current conditions without having to stop the truck or return to the shop to change operating parameters. All of the functions and adjustments described are available to the operator when the ignition key is on. 1. OPERATING PROCEDURES The following procedures explain in detail how to operate the water delivery system. These operating procedures are followed by specific instructions to be used for changing the operating parameters and configurations. The parameters and configurations may be changed by the operator at any time to allow immediate response to changing weather and road conditions. 2. WATER TANK FILLING/PUMP PRIMING The Ground Force low-profile water tank, while offering an optimum center of gravity for your safety, becomes difficult to prime the pump after the tank has been emptied. It is usually a good idea to open the water cannon isolation valve during tank filling. This will allow a free-flowing vent path for the air trapped in the water pump suction line. Shut the water cannon isolation valve once the tank is full. If establishing a prime is difficult: 1. Drive the water truck to a steep ramp and stop the truck facing uphill. 2. Start the water pump in manual and open the water cannon isolation valve. 3. Raise the engine speed to raise the water pump speed. 4. Observe the water flow from the water cannon. Once a clear stream (no air bubbles) is established, shut the water cannon isolation valve, but DO NOT turn off the water pump. 5. Start water pump delivery operations as soon as possible to prevent water pump overheating. 3. WATER DELIVERY OPERATION The Ground Force Water Control System display/control module will power on with the chassis ignition key. When the chassis is running and ready to operate, the tank is full of water, and all safety precautions have been followed, the Ground Force Water Body can begin delivering water. 4. START WATER PUMP The operator will begin by starting the water pump. Press and hold the two lower buttons of the encoder, Button 4 and Button 5, simultaneously. Hold for at least two seconds until the water pump icon in the lower right corner of the display screen turns green.
5. SELECT PROGRAM Next, select a program by rotating the center knob of the encoder. The currently engaged program will appear green. As the operator turns the knob, a white highlight will indicate the selected program. Program 3 is BOTH highlighted and active. CURRENT PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTED PROGRAM INACTIVE PROGRAM Rotate the knob until the desired program is highlighted, then press the center button once to engage that program. A white highlight will appear around each valve that is part of the highlighted program. Program 3 is active, but Program 4 is highlighted. Push the center button to select Program 4, or rotate the knob to select another program.
6. STOP SPRAY MANUALLY To temporarily stop water delivery, select one or both of the lower buttons on the encoder (Buttons 4 and 5). This allows the operator to temporarily stop water delivery to one or both sides of the water truck. To stop both sides at the same time, press the center button once. To resume watering operations, press the desired button again. 7. STOP WATER DELIVERY The water pump is designed to operate continuously during water delivery. The water pump will stop automatically once the low level shut-off set point has been reached. Ground Force recommends using the program controls to stop water delivery. In order to reduce wear and avoid damage to the water pump, hydraulics, and other system components, avoid cycling the water pump on and off. At the end of operations, turn the pump off manually by pressing and holding the two lower buttons of the encoder, Button 4 and Button 5, simultaneously. Hold for at least two seconds until the water pump icon in the lower right corner of the display screen turns red. 8. EDIT PROGRAM To create or edit a water control program, first highlight and then select the desired program by rotating the center knob until the desired program is highlighted, then pressing the center knob. The program indicator should appear green, and the white highlight should be visible at the same time. INACTIVE PROGRAM Next, press Button 2. The button indicator on the display screen will turn yellow. HIGHLIGHTED & SELECTED PROGRAM After Button 2 has been pressed, the operator can choose which spray valves to add to that program, including the water cannon, side spray nozzles, drip bar,
gravity dump valves, and rear spray heads. Use the rotating center knob to navigate to the desired valves. Rotate the knob to highlight available valves from left to right, top to bottom. A yellow circle will indicate the current valve. HIGHLIGHTED VALVE PRESS CENTER BUTTON TO ACTIVATE INACTIVE VALVE EXAMPLE PROGRAMS INACTIVE VALVE HIGHLIGHTED VALVE PRESS CENTER BUTTON TO ACTIVATE to return to operating mode, or press the center button (with no valves highlighted) to access more program options. Additional options include the selection of timed or staggered spray modes, and the ability to lock individual programs with a PIN code. Timed and Staggered modes allow the operator to select either an ON - OFF or RIGHT - LEFT spray pattern. ACTIVE VALVE ACTIVE VALVE As the knob is rotated to highlight each valve, press the center button to activate the valves desired for that program. Once selected, the valves will change from red to green. When finished selecting valves, the operator can press Button 2 Timed mode Staggered mode
Press Button 2 again to exit Programming Mode. Repeat as necessary to create up to 6 programs for various spray patterns. PIN codes allow on-site personnel to choose and set a PIN code lock on some or all programmed spray patterns. 9. ADJUSTING TIMER If timed or staggered modes are selected, the delay is adjustable. To adjust the time delay, press the upper right button of the encoder, Button 3. The button will turn yellow on the display, and a dial will appear. When the desired timer or staggered spray setting is selected, press Button 3 again to return to the main operation screen. 10. LOW LEVEL WARNING The low water level warning will appear when there is less than 10 seconds of water remaining in the tank at the current delivery rate. A timer will appear to alert the operator of the amount of water remaining in the tank. When the water level reaches the low-level shut-off set point, the water pump will automatically shut down to prevent damage to the pump. When the water level is above the low level shutoff set point, the water pump function will be enabled again. 11. WATER LEVEL INDICATOR If the Ground Force Water Body was equipped with float switches or a water level sensor, a bar graph will appear to the right of the keypad on the display screen, showing the current water level in the tank.
12. MAIN MENU SETTINGS Press Button 1 to access the main settings menu. The System and Measure menus provide technical information for troubleshooting and diagnostics. Those menus do not provide any tools for on-site working adjustments. The Adjust menu provides options for both on-site adjustments and shop-only information. The Setup Options and Machine Configurator are accessed only with a PIN that must be supplied by Ground Force. For system settings and troubleshooting assistance, please contact the Ground Force Parts and Product Support department at: +1 (208) 664-9291 Parts & Product Support E-mail: PPSR@GFWORLDWIDE.COM Service Department E-mail: Service@gfworldwide.com The Keypad Setup menu requires a Maintenance PIN. This menu allows the user to configure the keypad settings. The User Adjust menu provides options for the operator to adjust the spray head timer limits and to set a Maintenance PIN. The factory default PIN is set to 0000. The Variable Speed Calibration menu allows the user to adjust variable speed settings on trucks equipped with that option. The Preferences menu allows the operator to adjust the display brightness and screen saver, and set the date and time.
