n Wagen THE Middle Tennessee Volkswagen Club Newsletter Note From the President By Terry Hibbett Can you believe that summer is just about over. Seems it just hasn't lasted to long plus the weather has been so unpredictable this year. I'm not complaining because we haven't had the hot hot weather as usual but lots of rain. Really not much to report about this month as not to much has happened. Lots of cruise in's going on but half the time they have been rained out. Maybe September and October will be a lot more active. Anyway, those two months are my favorite time of the year. Read this newsletter for information about the upcoming Wilson County Fair Car Show. That will be our monthly activity if we have enough to participate. Until next time, Don't hide "em", Drive "em". Upcoming meeting dates: August 19 September 16 Chattanooga Swap Meet Sept 21-22 Announcing Swap-a-Paluza! Free Swap Meet The Scenic City Volks Folks would like to announce Swap-a-Paluza, a free swap meet event held on September 21st-22nd, 2013! The meet will take place in the RV lot at Camp Jordan in East Ridge, TN. There is no cost to participate, this is our way of saying "thank you" to everyone who has supported Bug-a- Paluza over the years. While not really a "show", you may of course bring your ride and show if off. But since it's a free event, we won't do any judging, registration, or awards. Just buy, sell, swap, or show off anything VW related. Camping is FREE on both Friday and Saturday nights and all space is first come, first serve. So if you've got a bunch of VW parts piling up in your garage, this is your chance to get rid of them. Or bring your shopping list! Come spend the weekend with us down at Camp Jordan in September and enjoy Swap-a-Paluza. Help us spread the word, you can find the event on Facebook so invite your friends! And again, we thank you for supporting Bug-a-Paluza all these years. We hope to see you in September for Swap-a-Paluza!

Volume 24, Issue 8 Page 3 Wilson County Fair Car Show By Terry Hibbett Sunday August 18th is the Wilson County Fair Car Show. That will be our August Club Activity if we have enough to participation. I'm hoping we will have 7 or 8 cars to take part in this show. The entrance fee is $15.00 per car and the first 200 cars to register will receive a dash plaque. They will award 3 places in each class and VW's have two classes. This is always a fun show to attend as not only is it a car show but it is the Wilson County Fair which has many things to do and see plus lots of food. I need to know how many will show so please call me before Friday August 16th. If for some reason we don't have but one or two who want to show, we won't participate. If we do participate, we will meet at the Kroger's parking lot at Providence's in Mt. Juliet at 9:30 am and leave from there as a group. We need to go in together as they do not allow saving places. Hope we have a good turn out. BOWEN CAMPBELL AUTO EXPO By Terry Hibbett Saturday, August 31, 2013 in the 32nd annual Bowen Campbell Auto Expo (Moss Wright) Car Show in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. This is a car show that we as a Club always attend. I think we have won the Best Club Participation award four or five times at this show. Again, please let me know if you plan on attending and showing or not. I would like the Club to win the Best Club Participation award again this year. We will meet at the K-Mart parking lot just off Briley Parkway at Gallatin Road at 8:30 am and leave from there. This is always a fun time so please make plans to attend this show and give your support to our Club. Remember to let me know if you will be showing or not. You can call me, e-mail me or let me know at the August 19th Club meeting.

Page 4 Middle Tennessee VW Club Knoxville Summer Jam in Townsend, TN Knoxville VW Club show in Townsend was a fun weekend. Club members Emmett and Sandra Wood, and Ron and Judy Samuels attended. This show is next to the Tally Ho Motel on grass area. Good turn out for show that is out off the way. Interesting cars and even some that have not been seen at other car shows. There were only a couple of new parts vendors which was disappointing and very few swap vendors which was more disappointing. I when with a list of parts for myself and a friend at work that is working on his daily driver 71 super beetle. The cars that were there made up for not having many vendors. We stayed at the Tally Ho Hotel right next to the car show area. Very convenient to wall around see and talk cars and then go back to the hotel for freshening up and then go back to the show. No parking problems and no driving to the event. The Carriage House Restaurant was on the other side of the Hotel and it had good food.. Dinner at the Little Cuba Restaurant was first night. Excellent food and service. Interesting was the kitchen was on second floor and food was delivered to waitress by lowering food down by pulley system. Neat. Another great local place to eat was the Firefly Restaurant. Great people serving you and food was very good. We are there twice during the week end. In my opinion the best of show was a bus. (see picture) It was slammed down in the front, engine coverage was glass so it showed off the detailed engine and air cleaners. The coolest thing was the front seat. The back of the seat was hinged to be the back of the drive seat and then flipped to be back part of the couch when camping. Really neat. Another fun item was the lawn mower with a VW engine. It had no mower deck, but it was very well done. This is a show worth going to again. Convenience of car show, food, hotel all within a few hundred yards, Great set up, Good show, quaint town with interesting shops and restaurants, slower pace than Sevierville but close enough to get to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for the shopping.
