Annunciation School Newsletter Annunciationbvm.org October 3, 2018 God is wise in heart and mighty in strength; who has withstood him and remained unscathed? Job 9:3 Dear Parents, Tonight is a busy night for our Viking Nation! Our 8 th Grade girls volleyball team plays TONIGHT at 6:00 p.m. at West Aurora High School in the City of Lights CHAMPIONSHIP game versus our Catholic League rivals Holy Angels. Come cheer our Lady Vikings on to victory! After the game, head back to school for our annual LUMINARY MASS starting at 7:30 p.m. in the cemetery. If you have never attended this beautiful Annunciation tradition, tonight s mild weather seems like the perfect time to start. The students enjoy searching for the luminary bags they decorated and the whole mass is very moving. Join fellow parishioners for refreshments in the gym following mass. As I mentioned at Curriculum Night, I am pleased to have Jodee Blanco, New York Times best-selling author of Please Stop Laughing at Me, presenting to both our students and parents this month. This is a collaborative effort by the principals of Holy Angels, St. Rita, Holy Cross, and St. Peter to bring us one of the nation s experts on bullying. Jodee Blanco has presented her celebrated anti-bullying program It s NOT Just Joking Around to a combined audience of over a half million people. Jodee will be speaking to our staff at Friday s In-service Day to help arm teachers with tools to squelch bullying and provide support for both sides of the issue. On Tuesday, October 23, Jodee will be here to present to our Kindergarten through 4 th grade students (4 th grade parents, please refer to the email I sent to you on Monday night asking you to disregard the permission slip that went home on Monday). On Wednesday, October 24, our 5 th through 8 th grade students will travel to Holy Angels for their presentation. Finally, we are hosting a parent presentation on Wednesday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Aurora Central Catholic High School. Ladies Night Out BUNCO is back!! Last year, Home & School introduced a fun Ladies Only bunco event and it was so well-received, that we re bringing it back THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18 at 7:00pm in the school gym. Appetizers, soda, and waters will be provided BYOB if you d like something else We ll have 50/50 and raffles, too! Invite your friends and neighbors for a fun night out!! Consult the flyer in this newsletter to sign up online. Sincerely, Have a great rest of your week! Enjoy the LONG weekend! Mrs. Jennifer Wardynski

Have you noticed the awesome school logo painted in the lobby? the beautiful new birdhouse outside of church? the cool new designs on some of the teachers desks? Each one of these things was designed and painted by our creative, talented, and generous MRS. JACQUIE JUNGELS!! Thank you, Mrs. Jungels, for all you do for our school! Also thanks to Tim Jungels and Pete Runge for building/welding/installing the birdhouse and to Mia Jungels for helping Mrs. Jungels paint the beautiful design.

Reminder: There is no school this Friday, October 5 as the faculty will be attending an inservice or on Monday, October 8 for Columbus Day. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All students who ordered a gym uniform received their uniform on Tuesday.
