Oakland University Dance Team Contract 2011-2012 Term This contract will begin on April 19, 2011 and shall terminate on April 1, 2011, or the last day of playoffs. 1) All dancers must be full time Oakland students for the fall and winter semester (12 or more credit hours per semester). 2) If a dancer leaves the team during the season, either voluntarily or otherwise, she must do so in person (no e-mails/text messages/letters) phone call or face to face only. Dancers who choose to leave the team before the end of season are responsible for all reimbursement to Oakland University. Please see Dismissal for more information. 3) Dancers must maintain at least a 2.3 GPA to remain on the team. Semester grades will be checked by the coach. 4) Dancers understand that any commitments made to organizations, sororities, etc. after making the OUDT should not interfere with the OUDT. Any lack of commitment will result in the dancer reimbursing the OUDT for money invested in them while on the team. 5) Dancers are not allowed to participate on any other professional dance teams during the OUDT season. Any attempt to audition for another dance team while you are a member of the OUDT will result in immediate dismissal. Appearances Dancers are expected to participate in local and school related appearances, such as charity walks, pep rallies, the Rochester Christmas Parade, etc All members of the Oakland University Dance Team (OUDT) will be required to attend at least 5 appearances throughout the season. 1) Dancers will be in proper OU attire as designated by coach. 2) Dancers will have a positive attitude at ALL appearances. 3) All appearances must be approved through the coach before commitment. Attendance All dancers must be committed to the OUDT for the entire contract season. Dancers must be in attendance for ALL games, practices, required fundraisers, and planned appearances. 1) Absences a) Absences will only be excused due to illness, injury, or death in family provided that the coach receives a PHONE CALL prior to the scheduled event (in emergency circumstances a call should be made within 24 hours). b) If you have prolonged and frequent absences due to health, a doctor s note will be required to allow you to continue with the team. c) If you miss the practice before a game, FOR ANY REASON, you will not be allowed to perform at that game; changes may be made within the choreography & formations.

d) If you have been absent and are not able/not allowed to perform at a game, you MUST come dressed in your uniform and/or warm-up to sit with the team. Failure to do so may result in suspension from the team. e) If a dancer has been absent from rehearsal and/or cannot catch up to the rest of the team s progress, the coach has the right to pull her from a performance at any time. 2) Lates a) Any time more than 5 minutes late will result in a Demerit. b) Each dancer will be charged.25c/minute when she is late to practice..50c/minute for games. Money will be added up at each practice/game and collected at the end of each month. 3) Demerits a) After 5 demerits, the dancer will be benched for the next performance. b) A chart will be kept with the coach and each dancer will initial when they have received a demerit. c) A dancer can receive a demerit for the following (but not limited to): i) Missing practice without telling the coach. ii) Being late 5+ minutes to practice/appearance/game. iii) Coming to a game/appearance not ready will result in 2 demerits. iv) Disrespect to the coach &/or teammates. v) Disrespect to the staff/athletic dept. of OU &/or opposing teams. 4) Vacations a) If you are planning a vacation, your best time is in the summer. There is a lot of learning and conditioning, but few appearances and virtually no games. There are practices and games during both Christmas and Spring Break, which poses a problem for vacation time. b) If you have vacation plans, you must tell the coach at least 2 weeks prior to your vacation, or you will be asked to sit out of the next performance(s). Conduct Dancers are representing Oakland University when wearing any garment that bears its name. Dancers are expected to behave professionally. Please watch what is posted on Facebook, etc., as the following rules apply: 1) Use of drugs, alcohol, or any illegal substance while wearing OUDT attire will result in immediate dismissal. 2) Use of drugs, alcohol, or any illegal substance not in OUDT attire will result in suspension from the team. 3) Dancers must always respect their team, coaches, other athletes, and OU. 4) The OUDT is a part of the Spirit Squad, which means we build and develop OU school spirit. No member will wear clothing representing other universities.

Dismissal from OUDT The following rules apply to those dancers who leave the team or are dismissed from the team by the coach or administration. 1) All uniforms are to be turned in to the coach within 5 days of dismissal. If a dancer fails to do so, her account will be billed accordingly. a) Uniforms include all game day attire, poms, and ALL OUDT attire (ie: warmups, bags, shirts, shorts, sweats, etc ). Game tickets are included. 2) The dismissed dancer will not be allowed to re-audition for the team for one season. Fundraising All OUDT members will fundraise; the OUDT is a mostly self-funded activity. Uniforms are provided to dancers, but there are many extras such as (but not limited to), shoes, warm-ups, bags, shirts, sweats, etc 1) All fundraisers must be approved by coach before committing. New fundraisers are always welcome! 2) Dancers will be put into groups of 3-5 and expected to come up with a team fundraiser. 3) If a fundraiser requires the dancer to sell a certain amount of money/tickets, the dancer must either fundraise that amount OR pay the difference. Game Procedure Dancers are expected to attend all home Men s and Women s Basketball games, as well as select home soccer and volleyball games. Dancers will arrive anywhere from 1 to 2 hours prior to game time. 1) Dancers must be prepared for all games. 2) Dancers must maintain a high energy level during the game. The OUDT performs in the stands, as well as time-outs and halftimes. The crowd is always watching! Anyone who cannot maintain the appropriate energy level will be removed from the game. 3) During halftime and doubleheaders, dancers will not eat in the stands/view of the crowd. 4) Dressing rooms (or areas) are provided on game day, which are shared with the OU Cheer Team. All dancers must share the area accordingly and keep it clean. 5) Dancers will be ready on the court with 2:00 pre-game and pre-second half. 6) National Anthem will be recognized with silence. Each year the top teams in the league advance to the Summit League Tournament. b) 12 dancers are allowed to attend the Tournament. c) Dancers will be chosen based on attendance, attitude, and GPA throughout the season. Seniority will come into play if there are more than 12 in the running.

Practices The OUDT holds practice two nights a week, which may increase before Nationals/Summits. For 2011-2012, the practice days are Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Calendars will be provided with each month s schedule. 1) Dancers must attend every scheduled practice. If you have a pre-arranged conflict, you must inform the coach immediately. 2) Dancers will wear only OU attire to practice. 3) If a dancer misses a practice, they are responsible for learning all material(s) before the next scheduled practice. Material will not be re-taught at practice, and if the dancer does not know it, she may be asked to sit out of the routine. 4) Cell phones will not be allowed at practice. They must be turned off and in your bag. Text messaging and phone calls during practice time (including water breaks) will result in dismissal from practice and possible suspension from the next appearance. 5) Disrespect at practices will not be tolerated. All dancers will treat their team and coach(es) with respect at all times. Uniform/Image Each piece of the uniform is the property of the OUDT and Oakland University. All dancers will be held financially responsible for all uniforms acquired.
