Brawley Dress code One of Brawley Middle School s most important rules is dresscode. The dress code here at Brawley is a solid color polo, khaki or black pants, shorts, and skirts (which have to be at least fingertip length). There is also a physical education dress code. For P.E., you have to buy a red shirt and gym shorts from the school. Every day when you have P.E., you have to wear them, or you have to go to ISS. Some days, like picture days, we get free dress code. This is when you have to follow the ISS dress code. You can wear pretty much anything except for tank-tops, shorts (that aren t fingertip length), and jackets or sweatshirts with hoods. We asked a couple of teachers about the brawley dress code and this is what they said. Mr. Sherrill was the first person we interviewed. He stated the following: How do you feel about the Brawley dress code? I like it. I think everyone looks nice with their polos tucked in. What do you think the purpose of pe dress code is? You have to wear the P.E. dress code because it is a health issue, so when work hard in P.E. you don t have to go back to class smelly and sweaty. Do you think most of the students follow the brawley dress code? Yes I do, and it makes it easy when people do what they are supposed to do. Mr. Dancy said: We have a dress code to try and have unified students and try and get the kids to be as equal as possible. 2. Do you think most of the students follow the Brawley Dress Code? Girls try and get away with stuff. I think that 90% of the students follow the dress code. 3. How long have we had the current dress code? We have had it since 2009 but before that we had a dress code that was only a red, white or black collared shirt as long as it had those three colors in it. 4. Why do we tuck our shirts in? 3
A collared shirt looks nicer tucked in and so you can t hide anything under your shirt like a weapon. Mr. Edge, who voted against the dress code, said : Why did you vote against the dress code rules? I wasn t sure that it would solve a problem. People believe that it cuts down on bullying. They also believe that it helps with behavior. 3. Do you think most of the students follow the Brawley Dress Code? Yes. Last but not least, Mrs. Krivanek stated the following: So students can focus on school instead of what they are wearing. 2. Do you think most of the students follow the Brawley Dress Code? I think most kids do a good job with the dress code except for tucking. 4. When the faculty was voting for dress code, did you vote yes, or no? I voted yes, but I didn t like the tucking part of it. A current picture of a student, Sage Uphoff, not following dress code : 4
