Generalities Levels 3 6 & Multiples 2014-2017

Generalities 1. MULTIPLES: NUMBER OF GYMNASTS Each Trio consists of 3 gymnasts no reserves allowed. Each Group consists of 4 gymnasts no reserves allowed. If, during the performance of a routine, a gymnast leaves the trio/group for any reason, the routine will not be evaluated. 2. TIMING The stopwatch will start as soon as the gymnast or the first gymnast in the multiple begins to move (a short musical introduction no longer than 4 seconds without movement is tolerated) and will be stopped as soon as the gymnast or the last gymnast in the multiple is totally motionless. Technical Deduction: 0.05 for each additional or missing second. Technical Deduction: 0.30 for musical introduction longer than 4 seconds without movement. 3. MUSIC All routines must be performed with music. The music can be interpreted by one or several instruments, including the voice used as an instrument. All instruments are authorised provided there is a clear and well-defined structure. *Levels 3-6: Only one routine per gymnast can use music with voice and words. *Multiples: Any routine can use music with voice and words. Penalty by the Difficulty Judge (**Levels 3-6 only): 0.50 for more than one routine performed with music with voice and words. Each piece of music must be recorded separately on a high-quality CD. A sound signal may start before the music. The following information must be written on each CD: Name of Gymnast/s Gymnast s Club Apparatus symbol Name/s of the composer/s and music Length of music Technical Deduction: 0.50 for music not conforming to regulations. In the case of the incorrect music being played, it is the responsibility of the gymnast/multiple to stop the routine immediately. The gymnast/multiple will be allowed to restart the routine with their music. 4. FORCE MAJOR A gymnast/multiple may repeat an exercise only in the case of a force major fault; for example, blackout, sound system error, etc.

5. FLOOR AREA Crossing of the boundary of the floor area by the apparatus and/or by any part of the gymnast s body touching the ground outside the specified floor area or any apparatus leaving the floor area and returning by itself will be penalised. Technical Deduction: 0.30 for gymnast and/or the apparatus each time. Technical Deduction: 0.30 if a gymnast/multiple ends her routine outside the floor area. Line Judge: must write down the technical deduction for the gymnast and/or apparatus leaving the floor area and hand it to the Head Judge. No Technical Deduction: if the apparatus leaves the floor area after the end of the routine and the end of the music or the apparatus is lost at the last movement. No Technical Deduction: if the apparatus passes the boundary of the floor area without touching the ground. 6. MULTIPLES: CONTACT WITH THE APPARATUS At the beginning of the routine, one or several gymnasts cannot remain without apparatus for longer than 4 seconds. Penalty by the Execution Judge: 0.30 if one or several gymnasts are without apparatus for more than 4 seconds. At the end of the routine, each gymnast may hold or be in contact with one or several apparatus. In this case, one or several gymnasts may be without apparatus in the final position. Penalty by the Execution Judge: 0.30 if none of the gymnasts in the trio/group are in contact with the apparatus in the final position. 7. REPLACEMENT APPARATUS Replacement apparatus around the floor area is authorised and must be placed by the gymnast/coach/marshal prior to the gymnast/multiple starting her routine. If the apparatus falls and leaves the floor area or is unusable (large knot), the use of a replacement apparatus is allowed. Penalty by the Execution Judge: 0.50 for loss of apparatus outside the floor area (regardless of distance)/unusable apparatus. Technical Deduction: 0.30 for the apparatus leaving the floor area. Line Judge: must write down the technical deduction for the apparatus leaving the floor area and hand it to the Head Judge. If the apparatus falls and leaves the floor area and is returned to the gymnast by an official or member of the public: Technical Deduction: 0.50 for unauthorised retrieval of the apparatus If the apparatus falls but does not leave the floor area, the use of a replacement apparatus is not authorised: Penalty by the Execution Judge: 0.50 for loss of apparatus Technical Deduction: 0.50 for use of a replacement apparatus whilst the original is still inside the floor area 8. APPARATUS NORMS The norms for each apparatus are specified in the Australian Levels Program. Apparatus used by a group should be identical in their dimension and shape; their colour may be different. It is possible for apparatus to be checked against the norms at a competition. Technical Deduction: 0.50 for apparatus not conforming to the norms.

Indiv vidual Levels 3 to 6 Judging 1. JURIES Each Jury consists of two groups of judges: up to 4 Difficulty (D) and up to 4 Execution (E) judges. Each judge evaluates their score independently. 2. SCORE CALCULATION Difficulty (D) L3 - Max 3.40 L4 - Max 3.50 L5 - Max 3.10 L6 - Max 3.50 Execution (E) Max 10.00 Artistic Faults + Technical Faults Final Score L3 - Max 13.40 L4 - Max 13.50 L5 - Max 13.10 L6 - Max 13.50 Where there is/are: 1 judge that judge s score is the final judge s score (NOTE: 1 judge is not encouraged) 2 judges 3 judges the two scores are averaged for the final judges score all three scores are averaged for the final judges score 4 judges the highest and lowest scores are disregarded and the middle two scores averaged for the final judges score. 3. DIFFICULTY SLIDING SCALE The set body difficulties in levels 3-6 are judged using the following sliding scale: 0.50 difficulty performed as required 0.40 difficulty performed missing one basic characteristic 0.30 difficulty incomplete in the body or apparatus work 0.20 difficulty incomplete in both the body and apparatus work 0.10 difficulty attempted 0.00 difficulty is not performed 4. OPTIONAL DIFFICULTIES *applicable only to Levels 5 & 6 Optional difficulties are judged as at their value as listed in the Tables of Difficulties. 5. BODY DIFFICULTIES Each Body Difficulty is counted only once and is to be performed either isolated or as multiple rotations of a Rotation difficulty. A repetition of the same shape where there is an identical relation between the trunk/legs/hands during the entire development of the Difficulty will not be evaluated by the judge/s. Only the first six Body Difficulties, as identified by the judge/ s, as they appear in the routine will be evaluated.

Multiple Rotations *applicable only to Optional Difficulties in Levels 5 & 6: A gymnast may perform multiple rotations of a Rotation Difficulty. In the case of a hop/interruption in the Rotation, only the value of the Rotation/s already performed prior to the interruption will be valid; provided they are executed correctly. Where a gymnast has performed more than one single rotation of a Rotation Difficulty, the judge will evaluate the number of rotations performed. As long as the Rotation Difficulty is correctly executed, then the judge can pay up to a maximum of 0.30 (dependent upon the value of the base Rotation difficulty). A Body Difficulty is valid if executed: With a minimum of 1 Fundamental and/or Other Apparatus Technical element specific to each apparatus during the Difficulty. o If the Apparatus Technical element is executed with a major alteration of the basic technique, the Body Difficulty is not valid Without one or more of the following serious Technical faults: o Major alteration of the basic characteristics specific to each group of body movements o Loss of the apparatus during the Difficulty, including 1 or 2 clubs o Loss of balance during the Difficulty with support on the hand/s or apparatus or fall o Static apparatus 6. DANCE STEPS Continuous connected dance steps (from ballroom, folklore, modern dance, etc) showing different rhythmical patterns with the apparatus in motion during the entire dance steps and performed: For a minimum of 4 seconds (Levels 3 & 4)/6 seconds (Levels 5 & 6) in accordance with the tempo and rhythm of the music. To convey the character and emotional response of the music through body and apparatus movements. With variety in the levels, directions, speed and modalities of movement according to the tempo, rhythm, musical character and accents. With transitions from one movement to another logically and smoothly connected, without unnecessary stops or prolonged preparatory movements in accordance with the tempo, rhythm, musical character and accents. With partial or complete traveling. With a minimum of one Fundamental Apparatus Technical group present (not applicable to Freehand). Pre-acrobatic elements can be performed during the dance steps, as long as they do not interrupt the continuity of the dance. Throws (small, medium, large) can be performed during the dance steps if it supports the idea of the dance, or helps increase amplitude and dynamism in the movement, or for the purpose of performing part of the dance steps under the flight. Dance Steps will not be valid: With a fall of the gymnast or loss of the apparatus. Where there is no Fundamental Apparatus Technical group present (not applicable to Freehand). Where there is less than the minimum required seconds of dance. Where the entire combination is performed on the floor (only partially is possible). Note: small technical faults of 0.10 are penalised by the Execution Judges and the Dance Steps are still valid.

7. FUNDAMENTAL & OTHER APPARATUS TECHNICAL GROUPS All Body Difficulties in Levels 3 & 4 are linked to specific apparatus technical movements to provide coaches with a strong foundation for gymnasts development. In Levels 5 & 6, Body Difficulties do not indicate specific apparatus technical movements; coaches need to consider gymnasts development when choosing these moves. Each Body Difficulty must be combined with a minimum of one Fundamental and/or Other Apparatus Technical Group. Apparatus Technical Groups can be performed identically, without penalty; however variety is encouraged for gymnasts development. Exceptions: Ball and Club/s can be held (squeezed ) behind the back during body movements with rotation or Difficulty with rotation. Rope (open or folded in half) and stick of Ribbon balanced behind the back (not squeezed) during body movements with rotation or Difficulty with rotation.

9. DYNAMIC ELEMENTS WITH ROTATION AND THROW RISK Risk consistss of: a throw of the apparatus a minimum of 1 rotation of the body without interruption around any axis during the throw, flight or catch of the apparatus a loss of visual control of the apparatus with or without passing to the floor catch of the apparatus during or at the end of the rotation/s.. In case of a small technical fault during the catch (incorrect catch, 1 step, etc.), the Risk is valid and the relevant Execution penalty is applied. The value of the Risk can be increased by applying additional criteria to the rotation of the body and/or to the throw and/or catch. For each additional criterion, the value of the Risk is increased by 0.10 point. The value of the Risk is determined by the number of rotations performed and criteria correctly executed. The Difficulty judge/s must notate the Risk as they see it performed by the gymnast.
