Chicken Dinner Fundraiser Second Round Our Chicken Dinner Fundraiser will be July 22nd from 4-7PM at the Charleston Board of Trade. If you are able to please sign up for a time slot to help during the fundraiser please contact the Extension Office 319-835-5116 or email me bhoutz@iastate.edu. Especially if you were unable to help last time please make it a point to help this time!! Tickets will be available at the door or at the Extension Office. We have around 150 tickets that we are able to sell! Reminder this is for county wide enrollment fees so this will benefit everyone! New to the 2018 Fair -Clover Kids Stuffed Animal Show on Saturday July 14th before Working Exhibits and Share the Fun! Please call the Extension Office to pre-register by June 22nd! -2nd and 3rd Grade Clothing Revue-Judged Wednesday, June 20th, have a workshop beforehand so the kids know what to expect and what to shop for or make! Check out the Lee County Fair Book for more info about each of these fun activities!! Lee County Fair Wristbands The Lee County Fair Board is offering to 4Her's before announcing to the public!! The Fair Board will be pre-selling a week long armband pass to Kenny's Funland Carnival for $50. There are a limited number of armband passes available to sell, which will get you unlimited rides, Wednesday - Saturday during the fair. This is a savings of $35 if you buy daily armbands. Carnival hours and daily armband pass pricing: Wednesday 5p-10p $15 Thursday 5p-11p $20 Friday 1p-10p $25 Saturday 3p-11p $25 If you are interested, please contact Lindsay at lindsayblampe@gmail.com by June 1st. You MUST pre-pay to have a wristband reserved for you to be picked up Fair Week. 3

4-H/FFA & Open Exhibitor fair books are now available online and at 4-H Bucket Bottle Calves Must have been calved between 1/1/18 and 4/30/18. If purchased the calf must be purchased and in possession of member within 2 weeks of birth. Calf must be bucket or bottle fed, no nursing permitted after purchase. Calf/calves must be identified on 4-H Online by May 15. the Lee County Extension Office! A maximum of 2 calves may be exhibited at the fair. Only one calf will be eligible for a trophy. Calves are eligible to be shown only in the Bucket Bottle classes. FairEntry online will be used again this year to enter all projects for the Lee County Fair. Exhibitors must enter projects in FairEntry online and pay fees by June 22. All families received an email containing help sheets and instructions on how FairEntry works! The Extension Office is available on Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Friday from 8:00 AM to noon or by appointment. Computers and Internet are available at the Extension Office for use. State Fair and County Fair are two separate entries. Adult guidance is strongly encouraged.** Class is open to any newborn or orphan heifer or male calf. Male calves may be shown as a bull or steer. All steer calves must be castrated by March 15. Rules and Regulations for 4-H Equine Shows 4-H er must have completed 5th grade. Swine, DNA Ear Tags will be permitted this year - $5 per head. Market sheep and meat goats will be retinal scanned at Weigh-in $5 per head. Deadlines: June 15, 2018 - All DNA information for Market Sheep, Market Swine, Meat Goats and Feeder Calves due and paid for online. June 15, 2018 - Breeding Heifers, Breeding Does, Breeding Ewes, Dairy Cattle, & Horses - Nomination information entered online. July 8, 2018 - Broiler order and entry forms due and paid for online. Competitive Swine Interviews: Wednesday, July 11 at 2:30 PM in the Extension Office Schedule for interviews will be mailed out after 5-31-18. Please turn in your record books to the Extension Office by Friday, July 6 at noon so they can be scored and reviewed before fair. Make sure you come prepared and you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Horse and Pony exhibitors please make sure to read through the Rules and Regulations for 4-H Equine Shows in Iowa. All proceed of this will go towards YQCA Funds for next year. The Lee County Cattleman and the Lee County Pork Producers have graciously agreed to provide the meat. We are in need of 4 to 5 volunteers/members to sign up to help during each timeframe. Please contact Whitney at the Extension Office if you are able to help that day. Clover Kids Small Pet Show Open to all Clover Kids Kindergarten 3rd grades in Lee County. Clover Kids will have the opportunity to show the audience their pet and speak with a judge regarding nutrition, grooming, or special behaviors. Clover Kids Pet Show animals are only allowed on the fairgrounds during the entry and show time. Pre-fair entry is required by June 22. Contact the Extension Office at (319) 835-5116. Clover Kids enrolled in the Pet Show must complete a pet journal from the Extension Office to record information about their pet. All pets must come properly restrained or contained. Appropriate examples include on a leash or in a box, cage, or bowl. Dogs, poultry, swine, horses, sheep/meat goats, cattle (beef and dairy) are not to be shown in the Clover Kids Pet Show. All other animals must be less than 100 pounds in order to be shown. An adult must supervise Clover Kids and pets at all times. The adult is responsible for both the Clover Kid and pet. Cats must have a current rabies certificate. (Use the same health requirements as for the 4-H Pet Shows. A copy must be to the Extension Office by June 22 with registration.) Any female animal in season cannot be shown. Participants will receive a participation ribbon. No premium money will be given. Possible animals for show include rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, turtles, fish, birds, snakes, etc. Clover Kids Pet Show will be held Thursday, July 12 right after the 4-H Small Pets Show. The 4-H Small Pet Show normally ends around 12:00 pm. I need to set a time. Junior Livestock Auction Rules: 1. This is a Market Animal Livestock Auction- any animals shown in the BREEDING shows are NOT eligible to be sold in this auction- this includes cattle, pigs, goats and sheep. 2. Animals not registered with the Extension Office will NOT be sold. For animals to be sold at the auction, they must have been shown in the 4-H/FFA show. All animals entering the sale ring must be sold or premiums will be forfeited. 3. Animals sold, shall in all cases, remain the property of the exhibitor until loaded. Exhibitors are responsible to see that their animals are loaded on the proper truck; Buyers are required to make plans with the seller to pick up livestock. Superintendents will supervise loading. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. No rabbits or poultry will be sold at the auction. Each exhibitor may only sell one animal per species. Animals must be clean before entering the Jr. Livestock Auction ring. All animals will be sold based on the weight they are shown at. Derby Beef are eligible to be sold in the auction. The Lee County Fair 4-H/FFA Swine Show is a terminal show. All animals exhibited will be sent directly from the fairgrounds to the packer with the exception of gilts shown in the breeding show, as well as the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Market hogs. Grand Campion and Reserve Grand Champion Market hogs are eligible to show at the Southeast Iowa Showdown and therefore may return to the possession of the exhibitor following the Junior Livestock Auction at the option of the buyer. 10. If an exhibitor is showing an animal in the Market Swine Class, the pig he/she sells in the Jr. Livestock Auction should weigh between 230-300 lbs. If all of the exhibitor s pigs weigh over 300 lbs., he/she may still sell one pig; however, the animal s sale weight will be set at 300 lbs. The exhibitor will not receive premium money over 300 lbs. 8
