Seek medical attention. First Aid Facilities: Advice to Doctor: Eye wash fountain, safety shower and normal wash room facilities. Treat symptomatically. 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES Fire/Explosion Hazard: Non-Combustible product. EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Water fog, foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide. SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Evacuate personnel to safe area. If product is on fire wear full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus. Cool fire exposed containers with water. Do not allow fire extinguishing media to enter drains and waterways. UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Product will not burn unless preheated. Carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide may be released if incomplete combustion occurs. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES SPILLS and DISPOSALS: Extinguish or remove all sources of ignition and static sources, and stop leak if safe to do so. Prevent product from entering drains and waterways. Ventilate area and remove all personnel. SMALL SPILLS: Take up with a vacuum absorbent material and place in non-leaking labeled containers; seal tightly for disposal. LARGE SPILLS: Remove all sources of ignition. Evacuate the hazard area of unprotected personnel. Wear protective equipment as specified in the Personal Protection section of their MSDS. Dike and contain. Take up with a vacuum truck or pump to storage/salvage vessels. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Page 3 of 5 Issue Date: 14/10/09 Handling Precautions Avoid breathing vapours and contact with product. Wash with soap and water before eating, drinking, smoking, applying cosmetics, or using toilet facilities. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse. Ensure adequate ventilation. Suitable respiratory protective equipment should be used if occupational exposure limits are exceeded. Do not empty into drains. Storage Precautions Store in a cool, well ventilated place away from ignition sources, acids, foodstuffs and clothing. Keep containers closed tightly when not in use. Store in suitable, labeled containers and keep upright once opened. 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure Limits Chemical Name TWA (mg/m 3 ) STEL (mg/m 3 ) Alcohol 238 None allocated Mixed ether 96.9 242 Engineering Controls Adequate ventilation should be provided to maintain airborne concentration levels to a level as low as reasonably practicable. Keep in a well ventilated area when not in use. Take precautionary measures against static discharge. Personal Protection Equipment Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and avoid breathing vapours or mists. When exposure is likely use personal protective equipment in a combination appropriate to the degree and nature of exposure should be selected from the following list: CLOTHING: overalls, safety shoes/boots. GLOVES: Butyl, EVAL-Laminate EYES: Safety glasses with side-shields, chemical goggles or face shield to protect eyes. RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Avoid breathing of vapours/gases. Select and use respirators in accordance with AS/NZS 1715/1716. When gases exceed the exposure standards then the use of a half-face respirator with organic vapour cartridge is recommended. For high concentration use an atmosphere-supplied, positive pressure demand self-contained or airline breathing apparatus, complying with the requirements of AS/NZS 1715 is recommended. Filter capacity and respirator type depends on exposure levels and type of contaminant. If entering spaces where the airborne concentration of a contaminant is unknown then the use of a Selfcontained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with positive pressure air supply complying with AS/NZS 1715 / 1716, or any other acceptable International Standard is recommended. 9.
