The Senators went 3-2 on their season opening road trip through Altoona and Binghamton. Meanwhile Reading went 4-3 at home. RH John Simms takes the hill for the Senators against RH Nick Pivetta. Roster Make-Up Of the 25 players beginning the season on the active roster, eight are considered top 30 prospects by Baseball America. The eight are led by what most publications agree is the top right-handed pitching prospect in all of baseball, Lucas Giolito. Joining Giolito are. Overall the breakdown looks this way: 22 of the 25 were in the Nats organization last season; 17 have played in Harrisburg before; and 16 have spent their entire careers in the Nationals organization. The average age is just a tick under 25 at 24.92 while the average experience is 6.6 years. The oldest player on the roster is Juan Gutierrez (32) while the youngest is Giolito (21). Three players have big league experience (De Los Santos, Gutierrez and Difo). Eight players are aged 23 or younger. Homestand The Senators will play four against Reading followed by three against Altoona. Next Saturday night, April 16th, Vladimir Guerrero will be on hand to be inducted into The One & Only World Famous, Life Size Bobblehead Hall of Fame What DH? Harrisburg opens the season with 14 consecutive N.L. games. Of their first 28 games, 21 of them are National League style games. Sens Bits The Senators open the 2016 season looking to turn things around after back-to-back seasons not making the playoffs. The Sens last made the playoffs in 2013, coincidentally, the last time Matt LeCroy was the skipper. Upcoming Schedule After their season opening road trip, the Senators will play 17 of the next 24 games at FNB Field. Three of those games are as the visitor against Hartford. The Senators host Reading for four at home followed by Altoona. The Sens head back out on the road for a four-game series in Bowie beginning next Thursday, April 21. Coaching Staff Matt LeCroy returns as manager of the Senators. He spent the past two seasons in the big leagues on the Nationals staff. Chris Michalak returns for his third season as the Senators pitching coach. Brian Rupp joins the Sens staff for the first time has hitting coach.
