Guidelines for games Bluestem High School Volleyball 2016 Rules & Expectations Away games I prefer that all athletes ride the bus home from away games. It gives the team time to regroup and discuss situations that occurred in the matches. I understand there will come times that it is inconvenient, so if the need arises we will follow the same policy outlined in the Bluestem Activities Handbook. We will support one another throughout the season. Most of the time JV/V play at the same time, but if one game ends before another, I expect all players in the bleachers cheering on their teammates. Weekend tournaments do not apply since not all players will be participating, but I would still encourage anyone not playing to attend to show their support. Respect All players are to treat themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and equipment with respect and courtesy. There will be no tolerance for any type of disrespect or lack of self control. Arguing with coaches, teammates, or officials will not be acceptable behavior and will result in loss of playing time immediately. This season we will be focusing on the things that are within our control. Calls made by officials are beyond our control. If a questionable call occurs and needs to be addressed the coaches will take care of the situation. Substance Abuse Obviously there are consequences for all actions that pertain to this, but it goes back to respect. Your teammates depend on you to be at your best, and any type of substance abuse will affect your performance. All violations of the school policy will be dealt with accordingly. Equipment Care It is the responsibility of every player to have their game and practice gear prepared and presentable. We will be turning the uniforms in after every game. Players will be responsible for picking their uniforms up before games, and be responsible for all of their practice and travel gear. If you do not have a uniform for the game you do not play. If you do not have your practice gear you do not practice.

Attendance Practices/Games We will be following the Bluestem Activities Policies, for what is and is not excused, but the coaches need to know about all absences before they occur. There are circumstances that don t allow for advanced notice, but the coaches need to know as soon as possible either by email, text, or phone call. Being prompt for all meetings, practices, and games is important. Lack of punctuality is a disregard for the value of another person s time. If you are going to be late, you need to let a coach know ASAP. We will be having Friday practices. I will put on the calendar that the times for Friday practices will be TBA. We will give as much notice as we can if that time is changed. Friday practice attendance is very beneficial to your player. This year is very competitive and those that do not attend will probably find that they are falling behind the ones that do attend. Playing time will NOT be adjusted for a missed Friday practice, but your athlete is missing valuable information and playing time if they do not attend, which will in turn affect their playing time. Grooming & Jewelry All jewelry will be removed for all games and practices. That includes any type of body piercings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. Jewelry can create great bodily risk to yourself and others in volleyball and will not be allowed. Playing Time I will base team placement and playing time on many factors. Evaluations will be based on an athlete s development. Practicing good form, developing good habits, and putting forth great effort will increase player growth. The habits we develop in practice are the habits that will determine how we play in games. Good things will happen if we are willing to work hard toward a common goal. Each athlete should focus on what the team is doing and try to use practice time to improve their skills and physical abilities. Those who put little effort into practice will get little or no playing time. Playing time is a major cause of conflict within a team. If you have a problem with your playing time, please talk to coaches first. Poor attitude in practice also dictates how much playing time one may get. Coaches are going to play who they believe deserves to play.

Parental Expectations Parents are asked to influence their child to abide by the rules and expectations stated above and in the Bluestem Activities Policies. You are asked to show good sportsmanship at games by making only positive comments about the players, keeping criticism of the officiating to a minimum, and treating fans of our opponents with respect. Be patient with the coaches, and refrain from saying anything negative about the coaches or other players in front of your child. If you feel strongly about something, set up a time to talk to the coaches. Contact the coaches first if you have a complaint. Miscellaneous If for any reason a situation arises that is not covered in this document, discretion by the coaches will be used to deal with the situation. Coaches will determine if parental contact is needed or if the situation can be cleared up between the player and the coach.
