Exhibitors must be members of a 4-H Calf Club organized this year. Previous winners are eligible to compete. Entries must be received on a proper 4-H form. Incomplete entry forms will not be accepted. The name of your 4-H Club must be on the entry form provided. No online entries. SECTION 49 4-H HERDSMEN S SESQUICENTENNIAL COMPETITION JUDGING: Judging will conclude at 6:00 p.m. PRIZES: 1 st - $150.00, 2 nd - $100.00, 3 rd - $75.00, 4 th - $50.00 all other credible exhibits $25.00. 4-H Clubs are encouraged to assemble a barn exhibit in the space allocated to the housing of their animals. This competition is open to clubs entered in this section of our 2017 4-H Inter-County Dairy Calf club show. Displays must have at least a club sign and calf signs. SECTION 50 4-H LEADERSHIP AWARD PRIZES: A trophy and $100.00 will be presented to the winner. In memory of former 4-H member and leader Susan Sager by her husband Paul Urbanowicz. All members exhibiting their 4-H dairy project are eligible. Previous winners of this award are not eligible. Presented to the 4-H member who best exhibits the spirit and meaning of 4-H during and in preparation for the show. Some factors that will be considered are How members help and co-operate with each other and best exemplify the motto Learn To Do By Doing.

Anyone who has previously competed and won as a Junior member (9-15 yrs) of a team can now compete as a Senior team member (16-21 yrs.) with a Junior team member. If you have won as a Senior member you may not compete again. General fair rules & regulations apply Open to youths ages 9 to 21 years as of January 1 st, 2017 whose permanent residence is anywhere in Ontario. Team composition will consist of two members one under 15 years of age and one 15 years or older. Consultation between team members is encouraged. External advice during the competition on preparation techniques is not allowed.

Entries will be accepted by the Fair General Manager up to and including the closing date of September 29 th, 2017. Pre-entry by the closing date is required. All entrants are to check in at the registration desk by 12:00 p.m. on show day. A maximum of eight teams will be selected from the entries by means of a draw. Rockton Fair will provide each team with a beef calf that is wet at the start of the competition. Calves will be allocated on a draw basis. Each team will also receive two admission tickets and two meal vouchers. Teams shall supply their own blower, combs, brushes, halters, blocking chute, and grooming aids for the competition. Electrical outlets will be provided. No clippers, scissors, or trimming accessories may be used during the competition. Each team will be allowed 60 minutes for preparation (blowing included). Each team will be judged on ability to prepare the calf they have drawn. All calves will not be of equal conformation and therefore the objective of each team is to prepare its calf in a manner that takes it from the original state to as close as possible to the true type. Each team will be judged on animal preparation, knowledge of fitting techniques, method of operation, use of time available, deportment and professionalism, and ability to work as a team. Teams are to be properly attired for animal preparation. Lambs need not be entered through the club leader. All exhibitors must be a member of a 4-H Sheep Club in Ontario in the current year. One entry per club member. All entrants will receive a meal voucher worth $3.00 that may be used at any food outlet posted as a Designated Food booth. All exhibits are to be on the grounds by 8:30 a.m. and must remain until 5:00 p.m., Monday, Thanksgiving Day. PRIZES: Group A $10.00, Group B $8.00, Group C $6.00 Classes will be judged on a group basis.
