The leaves can be eaten also. The oldest record of cauliflower dates back to the 6 th century B.C. There are 4 major groups of cauliflower: Italian, Northern European annuals; Northwest European biennial; and Asian. There are hundreds of historic and current commercial varieties used around the world. Four colors are typical: white, orange, green & purple. Nutritionally, a 100 grams of raw white cauliflower provides 25 calories, is low in fat, carbohydrates, dietary fiber and protein. It also has a high content of Vitamin C and moderate levels of Vitamins B & K. Cauliflower can be roasted, boiled, fried, steamed, pickled, or eaten raw. Dieters can use cauliflower as a reasonable substitute for potatoes or rice. Cauliflower can be turned into a flour from which pizza or biscuits can be made. ROASTED CAULIFLOWER YIELD: 4 Servings PREP TIME: 30 minutes INGREDIENTS: 1 lb Cauliflower ( 1 med-lrg head trimmed & cut into 1/4 slices), Extra virgin olive oil (to coat), Sea Salt, Coarsely ground black pepper PREPARATION: 1) Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place cauliflower in a large mixing bowl. Pour on enough olive oil to coat (a few Tbsps). Season generously with salt and pepper and toss gently until evenly coated. 2) Lay cauliflower pieces out on a baking sheet. Drizzle any remaining oil from the bowl on top. Bake, turning once, until caramelized on edges and tender, 25-30 min. Serve warm or at room temperature, as a side dish. You can also sprinkle it with a very good aged vinegar. 4th Annual Candy Buy Back 2016 Tuesday, November 1 from 4-6 pm To Whom it May Concern, Dr. Danny Hayes of Advanced Dental Concepts, is again participating in a nationwide Halloween Candy Buy Back program (www.halloweencandybuyback.com) that is taking hold across the country. The purpose of this program is to promote Halloween as a healthy Dental Holiday. As you may have heard, our country is facing an epidemic among our youth in the form of childhood obesity, diabetes, ADD and ADHD. Also, childhood dental health and rampant tooth decay continue to be a major issue. We do not want to take the fun out of Halloween!! We encourage children to participate in trick-or-treat fun, select a few pieces of their favorite candy stash, and donate the needless pounds of excess candy for cash and prizes at our dental office on November 1, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 pm. The donated candy will then be sent to our troops overseas in care packages via Operation Gratitude (www.opgratitude.com). At this event, we are exchanging the candy donations for cash donated by our office, $1 per pound up to $5 per child. We want to make this event a fun and exciting extension of the Halloween holiday for the children and their families...because we know how difficult it is for our children to give up their Halloween stash. We are asking local businesses to help participate in this event by donating to it s cause. We are seeking donations in the form of: Ÿ Healthy snacks and drinks to offer to the families at this event Ÿ Kid friendly gifts and prizes to give away as raffles and contest winners to the children who donate. Every child that attends will receive a free raffle ticket from which the prize winners will be drawn at the end of the evening Ÿ Gift certificates to restaurants, fast food locations, and family fun activities such as bowling, movie theaters, mini-golf, jump centers, etc. Ÿ Shipping boxes and cash donations of any amount to help offset the shipping cost of the donated candy to Operation Gratitude in California Ÿ Any donations that you may see fit We are so excited to be hosting this event for the 4th time. We feel that it is for a great cause and would appreciate any possible donations that our local businesses, organizations and residents could afford to provide. We would also like to extend a personal invitation for you, your families and friends, or your patrons to attend as this will be a family fun event. Please have the children wear their costumes for our costume contest and photo ops...we love to see our local children having a great time and hope that you will attend. We thank you in advance and will acknowledge all of our donors on our website, and on any signs and posters that will be displayed during the event. If you have any questions or would like to make a donation, please contact either Dr. Hayes or the office manager, Jeanette, at 219-663-6878. You can also reach us by email at supersmiles@adc4smiles.com. Thank you and have a safe and happy Halloween. Sincerely, Dr. Danny Hayes and Staff at Advanced Dental Concepts www.adc4smiles.com, Advanced Dental Concepts 10780 Randolph St
