I know that many of you used our Club s facilities for hosting both business and family gatherings during the holidays and I want to personally thank each of you that did so. I also hope that you were pleased with your outings at the Club. You can now easily remove grass clippings from your shoes using compressed air. Turtle Point is proud to be part of your family dinners, your night out, your business meetings, and your recreational activity time. FOOD & BEVERAGE James Crocitto Director of Food & Beverage It was just another beautiful summer day in Sequoia National Park, California where I was managing the Lodge Room. One of the waitresses came up to me and requested the weekend off so she could attend a wedding. I too was planning on taking the same weekend off to attend a wedding. It was also a funny coincidence that her father was living close to my mother and so, we decided to car pool. I proceeded to drop her off on Friday at her fathers and told her I would pick her up on Monday to head back up the hill. We never discussed whose weddings we were attending. Saturday came and I made my way to the wedding, low and behold that little waitress was at the same wedding. She was friends of the brides and I was friends of the grooms. We laughed so hard, and then danced the rest of the night away together. That was 25 years ago, and that little waitress is now my wife. I am telling you this story to remind everyone to look back on when and where you met your significant other. This is what Valentine s Day is all about. CLUBHOUSE NEWS & EVENTS FROM THE MANAGER Bill Colloredo General Manager 2013 will be another exciting and epic year for Turtle Point. Although the weather has not been conducive to outdoor activity, your staff and I have been working diligently to prepare your Club for the upcoming seasons. Thanks to Brent Smith and his crew for their hard work during the first weeks of January. The Clubhouse was thoroughly cleaned from top to bottom, and both regular and preventative maintenance measures were taken on the facilities. James, Jorge and their staffs organized and did an inventory of the attic. Work has begun on the pool and pool deck. We are dedicated to making Turtle Point the very best it can be for you, your families, and your guests. Each and every department is working hard during this time of the year to fine tune his/her operation to ensure an optimal experience for you at Turtle Point. Your staff is dedicated to upholding the tradition of excellence here at Turtle Point. The Turtle Point Website tpycc.org has been updated with current and future events. Please check it out. By logging in to the members only section, you can view your club statement and your tickets. Of course, you can always choose to have your bank account drafted for easy payment of your bill. If you would like to have your account drafted, or if you need your username and password for the web site, please contact Tricia Mayes at 256-757-2153 or Triciam@tpycc.org. Please make plans to attend the special events in February and March. The details of these events are in this issue of The Voice. Our Valentine s Week Features will include unique and delicious selections from Chef Mark. Make Turtle Point part of your Valentine s Celebration. Our Turtle Point Commodore, Allan Neill, invites All TP Members Boaters Non Boaters Everyone to the 2013 Commodore s Ball. It will be a night of great food, entertainment and fun for all. Everyone is welcome! Turtle Point is an exceptional Club with loyal Membership, a dedicated staff, and facilities second to none. Golf Digest just recognized TPYCC as 3rd Best Golf Course in the State of Alabama. Congratulations to Superintendent Glen Junkin, Assistants Randy White and Brandon Carden, Golf Professional Les Holcombe, Pam Holcombe and Assistant Paul Ater and the entire golf staffs for their work on and around the course that has been recognized by the Golf Course Raters of Golf Digest. In 2013 our goals are to make the Club even better, grow our Membership and excel. These goals are attainable and within our reach. Please help us with your feedback and your Member referrals. Turtle Point is the best kept secret in the South. Please let me know what I can do for you. We value your support. Hope to see you at your Club soon and often. MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT Since my last newsletter in November, we have done some tree work on #6 and #11, the pond on #17, (cleaned out), and finished the leaf removal from the golf course. Also, many of the mowers have been rebuilt. This is all to prepare for the new growing season and help us have an even better year on the golf course in 2013. As I write this letter, it is sleeting outside and has rained for the last 8 days, so we are now in the process of painting tee markers, benches, and ball washers. However, as soon as the weather permits, we will start spraying our spring pre-emergent on golf course. The spring pre-emergent helps to control summer weeds such as crabgrass that creep into a healthy turf if left untreated. We have aerification set for the week of March 18th. This is the process of removing thatch from the greens and replacing that material with new sand which allows the roots to become very robust and healthy before the stresses of summer. Glen Junkin, GCS Golf Course Superintendent If you have questions or comments about the golf course, don t hesitate to call or email me at my new email address glenj@tpycc.org. Hope to see you on the course soon.

Allan Neill Commodore FROM THE BRIDGE The New Year Festivities are behind us, and the 2013 boating season will soon be here. Before we get out on the lake for the summer, come enjoy a 47 year tradition, of The Turtle Point Yacht Club 2013 Commodore s Ball. The Commodore s Ball is one of the Club s epic events and All TP Members are encouraged to attend. This event will be Friday, March 15th, and officially kicks off the 2013 boating season. Call Tricia with your table reservations, and drop anchor for a great night of fun. You won t want to be anywhere else! Do we have any 40 ft. slips available? YES! Can you believe we have two 40 ft. coverd slips and three, uncovered 10 x 30 slips available, then we have a waiting list on all other slips. (This unique opportunity won t last long). I would encourage everyone to go to the closest boat show and start shopping. Go to Miami next month. They probably have a great selection. Warm Regards!
