The Harbor Crier Happy St. Paddy's Day On The Web At www.dunedinboatclub.org Volume 6, Issue 3 Dunedin Boat Club March 2013 Commodore s Corner by Peter From what I can see is looks like Spring in every direction. This means it s time to get out on the water. One of the opportunities the Dunedin Boat Club offers is the opportunity to enjoy boating in Dunedin. Just give one of our listed organizers a call if you want to go fishing, racing, or cruising. Plus, when we participate in any of the DBC events, it s always an opportunity to invite friends to join the fun. I spun the compass around and in every direction it looked like Spring. Looking north I see the last of the cold wintery blasts blowing itself out so warm water boating is just around the corner. But not all of our northern friends have left. And soon we will have all the Spring Break visitors to take boating as an excuse get on the water. Looking East I see the tracks of the Marti Gras parade. The winds of fun blew another first place trophy our way. First Capt./Chef Ron and crew threw a great spaghetti dinner and raised enough money to insure our fun stayed in the black. Sam McVicker and Jim Graham with the help of a lot willing hands once again made sure the nautical fantasy for our mermaids was prize winning spectacular. And don t forget our teardown crew who made the fun last a few more days. Looking South, I see sails going over the horizon, the first set on our Gulfport Cruise, the second set racing to join the festivities. When they reappear coming home, we ll all be able to enjoy their arrival back in Dunedin at the St. Patrick s day meal served before the March Membership Meeting. Be sure to also pick up our 2013 Membership Directory at the March meeting. DUNEDIN BOAT CLUB FISHING REPORT We had another great fishing get together on Sunday February 10, 2013. Quite a few members participated as well as several guests. It was a great day for fishing except for the wind and everyone caught a few fish. We also saw a manatee at the anclote river power plant outfall.. None of our usual disagreement as to who was the big winner of the day. I was suppose to go on the boat with a friend of liza Hopkins but he called Saturday night and said it would be too windy, my boat was not prepared so liza Hopkins and I decided to fish from shore at the outfall of the anclote power plant. We caught plenty of fish but they were all small mangrove snappers. We were told that everyone who was there at daylight caught their limit. Happy and Mark Jordan took their boat out with Ron Kinkead and his two granddaughters as guests. Guess who caught the biggest trout of the day on her first cast?? That s right Rons granddaughter Alannah. The fish was about 17 inches long. Now guess who caught the most fish?? You guessed it. Rons other granddaughter Leah. She caught at least 4 trout. We also had Fairlie and Bernie out giving the fishing a try. So there were two big winners for the morning, but everyone had a good time. Most of us got to the club about 1 P.M. and had some refreshments and socialized for an hour or two. But again the only losers were the ones who did not come out and enjoy the day. DON T MISS OUT ON THE NEXT GET TOGETHER SOMETIME THE END OF MARCH OR EARLY APRIL Good fishing Capt. Norm Whitten Dunedin Boat Club PO Box 201 Dunedin, FL 34697-0201 5
