DUNEDIN BOAT CLUB NEWSLETTER Volume 11, Issue 3 March 2018
Commodores Corner Wow, it is all ready mid-march and a lot has been and is going on. First, I want to thank all the members that have stepped up to working on Committees. These are the folks that make the club fun and they are doing a great job! Okay, we didn't win first place for Mardi Gras but hey, we had a great time building the float and being in the parade. We always have next year. Don't forget about the Cruise to Clearwater Mandalay Bay this weekend and dinner on Clearwater Beach at the Palm Pavilion. Monday night is the March General Meeting at 7:30 PM. The Club has purchased a new projector, so we are looking forward to the presentation. Cindy will also update everyone on our Spring Celebration on March 34th. Hope see ya'll there! Harold Schomaker DBC Commodore
Vice Commodore Welcome, This month s (March) program will be from member Dave Cornwell. Dave will tell us of his adventures at the Great Lakes Boat Building School. Dave attended the master boat building classes all with the help and assistance of his two grandsons. This should be great program! Next month (April), Manny Farnias has a great program month on cruising with the Dunedin Boat Club. I think you will be surprised at the many things our club is doing now and how easy it is to join in on the fun. Be sure and plan on attending this meeting. For our May meeting, finally the long awaited recounting of the James McKeever, Cammy McKeever and Grant Painter High Adventure of bringing a boat from the east coast of South Carolina all the way to Dunedin. This will be our exciting May program. I want front row seat for this adventure! Terry Hopkins Vice Commodore
Race Committee Another race in the books. Dunedin to Pass-a-grill Run with 7 boats off at 9AM. Thank you Fairlie, Rusty and special roller derby USA Team MVP "Wild Cherri" Cheri Kresge. Job well done. 5 Cruising Corner Saturday, March 17 Palm Pavilion - Dinner at 6 Clearwater Beach Come cruising with the cruisers from the Dunedin Boat Club on Saturday, March 17. This is a cruise that every member of the Dunedin Boat Club can participate in whether they have a boat or not. The March Cruise for the DBC is a short trip to the Mandalay Channel near Clearwater Beach then we are all going to dinner at the Palm Pavilion on the beach. Please RSVP at the DBC Cruising Web Page at cruisingschedule/marchhttps:// ry.com/routeandschedule Come by Boat: If you want to come by boat you can anchor in the Mandalay Channel and take a dinghy to the dinghy dock near the Clearwater Beach Public Library, return to your boat after dinner and enjoy a night under the stars. No Dinghy No Problem! Or you can just tie up to one of the several FREE day docks at the Clearwater Beach Public Library. The day docks close at 10 pm, so you would need to anchor out or return to your home dock after that time. Come by Car: No boat? Drive over to the beach and join your cruising friends for dinner. The Palm Pavilion does not take reservations for large groups during spring break, so you may have to have a few cocktails on the beach while waiting for a table. Come by Ferry: Don t want to fight the traffic? Take the Ferry! You can take the Clearwater Ferry from the Drew street stop at Coachman Park to the North Beach Stop (which is the Clearwater Beach Public Library boat ramp where the boaters will be). You can get more information about the Clearwater Ferry rates and schedules at: The Clearwater Ferry info:

For more information you can me, Carol Allen, at CarolCaladesi@gmail.com. BOOK CLUB FOR MARCH 14, 2018, 7pm The Circle by Dave Eggers Hosting is Elise Kay, 2214 Highland Court, Dunedin - and her address is so new it is not on all GPSs and mapping apps so directions will be sent in a separate . AND COMING NEXT MONTH APRIL 11 at 7pm at the Boat Club We will be reading The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick, which evokes whimsy and poignancy. Since Miriam, his wife of 40 years, died a year ago, 69-year-old Arthur Pepper stopped living; he merely exists, until he finds a gold charm bracelet he d never seen before tucked inside one of her shoes. The first of the bracelet s eight charms is a bejeweled elephant inscribed with a phone number. He calls it and is shocked to learn that Miriam once lived in India. He sets about exploring the other charms including a tiger, a locket, and a thimble which take him from Yorkshire to a manor house in Bath long past its glory days, and further afield, to London and Paris. While unraveling Miriam s past, Arthur realizes that his outward journey is also a journey within, and in a comically heartwarming fashion he attempts to embrace the unknown while slowly discovering his positive impact on others. This is a sweet story with an almost magical, but never saccharine denouement, as a newly whole Arthur Pepper emerges.
Webmaster There are two new features on the Members Only Login page. One allows you to retrieve your forgotten User ID and the other allows you to reset your forgotten password. I have sent out a blast with an attached pdf file that explains how to use these new feature. The Club Roster is going to print, go the WEB site, Members Only page, login and click the Update Your Data button. Then make sure all the information is correct. The data to print the Club Roster will be pulled from our online database. Recently, options have been added to the User Menu page for Skippers and Crews to find each other. There is another option where you can volunteer to help the race committee in various capacities and an option to volunteer to work on any of the other committees. There are also buttons to take you to the User Guide and other Documents. Have fun and contact me if you have any questions or problems!!! George Schott WEB Master Dunedin Boat Club
From the Editor It has been my pleasure to provide you with the first edition of the Harbor Crier in Keeping my ear to the pulse of the activities happening with the many facets of the Dunedin Boat Club. My co-editor is David Bates. We are rotating every other month for production. Please send your articles and photos to me at ing text is fine, a Word doc is fine. Please not PDF s, I will not be able to format it to the newsletter. Send photos in a jpg format. Anyone can submit photos from events. All Bridge, Board, and Committee Chairs, please have your articles into me by the Wednesday after the board meeting. We are trying something new. I am sending out the newsletter blast through Chimp Mail. This way we can have a count on the members who open the newsletter. Information has been passed along through many channels. Meetings, website posts, website pages, Facebook and the Harbor Crier. Communication is an important vehicle to keep the club moving along at the clipping pace it does.
