1 The Harbor Crier Happy St. Paddy's Day On The Web At Volume 6, Issue 3 Dunedin Boat Club March 2013 Commodore s Corner by Peter From what I can see is looks like Spring in every direction. This means it s time to get out on the water. One of the opportunities the Dunedin Boat Club offers is the opportunity to enjoy boating in Dunedin. Just give one of our listed organizers a call if you want to go fishing, racing, or cruising. Plus, when we participate in any of the DBC events, it s always an opportunity to invite friends to join the fun. I spun the compass around and in every direction it looked like Spring. Looking north I see the last of the cold wintery blasts blowing itself out so warm water boating is just around the corner. But not all of our northern friends have left. And soon we will have all the Spring Break visitors to take boating as an excuse get on the water. Looking East I see the tracks of the Marti Gras parade. The winds of fun blew another first place trophy our way. First Capt./Chef Ron and crew threw a great spaghetti dinner and raised enough money to insure our fun stayed in the black. Sam McVicker and Jim Graham with the help of a lot willing hands once again made sure the nautical fantasy for our mermaids was prize winning spectacular. And don t forget our teardown crew who made the fun last a few more days. Looking South, I see sails going over the horizon, the first set on our Gulfport Cruise, the second set racing to join the festivities. When they reappear coming home, we ll all be able to enjoy their arrival back in Dunedin at the St. Patrick s day meal served before the March Membership Meeting. Be sure to also pick up our 2013 Membership Directory at the March meeting. The DBC is a member of the Dunedin Council of Organizations (also known as DCO), and has been for a few years now. DCO meets every 3rd Friday of the month (except June, July and August) at 7am at the Dunedin Golf Club. DCO is made up of various organizations throughout Dunedin such as businesses, churches, home owner associations, civic clubs and non-profits. The meeting is open to any DBC member who would like to attend. It is a breakfast meeting and there is a charge of $8 per person. The meeting agenda includes a city report, a spotlight on a non-profit, the sponsor spotlight and a speaker who addresses a topic that is of interest to our community. It's a great place to find out what's going on in our city and county and meet others who love Dunedin as much as we do. No reservation is necessary and all DBC members are welcome to attend. 5 DUNEDIN BOAT CLUB FISHING REPORT We had another great fishing get together on Sunday February 10, Quite a few members participated as well as several guests. It was a great day for fishing except for the wind and everyone caught a few fish. We also saw a manatee at the anclote river power plant outfall.. None of our usual disagreement as to who was the big winner of the day. I was suppose to go on the boat with a friend of liza Hopkins but he called Saturday night and said it would be too windy, my boat was not prepared so liza Hopkins and I decided to fish from shore at the outfall of the anclote power plant. We caught plenty of fish but they were all small mangrove snappers. We were told that everyone who was there at daylight caught their limit. Happy and Mark Jordan took their boat out with Ron Kinkead and his two granddaughters as guests. Guess who caught the biggest trout of the day on her first cast?? That s right Rons granddaughter Alannah. The fish was about 17 inches long. Now guess who caught the most fish?? You guessed it. Rons other granddaughter Leah. She caught at least 4 trout. We also had Fairlie and Bernie out giving the fishing a try. So there were two big winners for the morning, but everyone had a good time. Most of us got to the club about 1 P.M. and had some refreshments and socialized for an hour or two. But again the only losers were the ones who did not come out and enjoy the day. DON T MISS OUT ON THE NEXT GET TOGETHER SOMETIME THE END OF MARCH OR EARLY APRIL Good fishing Capt. Norm Whitten Dunedin Boat Club PO Box 201 Dunedin, FL
6 Social Committee Mary Kolb & Cindy Cole THE ST. PATRICKS DAY DINNER March 18th, 2013 The St. Patrick Day Dinner will start at 6pm on March 18th, 2013 just before the regular membership meeting. The cost of the dinner will be $8 at the door. Those that RSVP will be served first! So please make sure that you are on the RSVP list! Everyone should bring a dish to share, a dessert or appetizer that would complement the corned beef and cabbage dinner. Chef Bernie Burid will prepare the dinner and the Sea Scouts will be serving and cleaning up. The proceeds will benefit the Sea Scout Troop. Beer will be supplied by the DBC. THE BLOCK PARTY April 20th 2013 This is a great party for new and old DBC members to get together and have a good time. We will have live music and will supply a beautiful sunset for free! THE PIG ROAST May 11th 2013 This party is a favorite with the DBC members, the food is awesome! Speaking of pigs What do you call a sunburnt pig? BACON!!! THE PREAKNESS PARTY May 18th, 2013 This is a horseracing tradition. The party celebrates the premiere thoroughbred horse race held on the 3rd Saturday of May. We will have our horse race with 1 dollar tickets. Everyone please bring a dish and bring your own drinks! Ladies don t forget to wear a HAT!!!! 6 Dunedin Boat Club PO Box 201 Dunedin, FL
7 The Book Club WE ARE NOW MEETING ON THE SECOND WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH WE HAVE A SPECIAL GUEST SO THE BOOK FOR APRIL HAS BEEN CHANGED We are fortunate to have local author, BonSue Bandvik, come to our meeting on April 10. Hosting will be very new Boat Club member Sharon Grimshaw. She lives in Crystal Beach, and directions to her house will be posted on the website - please be sure to let her know if you can come. 983 Bayou Lane, Crystal Beach. Phone: The book we will be reading is Pearls: Spirits of the Belleview Biltmore. It is available at the library, but if you buy a copy, she will autograph for you. She lives near the hotel, and mentions a lot of local sites in the book, so it will be fun for us to read. It is a real page turner, people who have read it say. So, if you haven t come before, think about coming on April 10! See you there? Dunedin Boat Club PO Box 201 Dunedin, FL

Following them are all the Spring sailing events, Ensign and Day-Sailor Mid-Winters, and Sun- Coast Race Week are only days apart. Fishing will be out on the water again soon also, I m sure. Any direction we look we can see the fun and fellowship of DBC coming our way. Bring others to join the fun, and sponsor them as members, the more the merrier. Let s have our own march to the sea this spring and see how many people we can put on the water. Let s all get involved in the part of the DBC we will find fulfilling in March.
