ALSO OUR CITY ADMINISTRATOR, CHRIS MOONIS WILL SPEAK ABOUT WHATS HAPPENING AROUND OUR GREAT CITY. LIGHT HOUSE GRILL OUTING ON APRIL 19 HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE. Sort of on cruise control if you will. Sadly, the club's group fishing trip in mid-march on the headboat Yankee Capts had to be cancelled due to high wind. Forecast was for 32 knots on the evening of our departure. Wisely, Capt. Greg Mercurio cancelled the trip. Again next year we will plan early for a group trip. There is a repaired and new on the water "real time" weather sites now available here in the Keys. Sombrero Tower is back up again giving us important wind and weather information. Go here:

2 Brand new is a weather data buoy located south of Bahia Honda which will give us wave and water temp information. This is from Chip Kasper of the Key West NOAA Weather Bureau. Minutes From Last Meeting MARCH 2, 2018 MINUTES The March meeting of the Fishing & Boating Club was called to order on March 2, 2018 at 6:30 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Commodore Tom Alferes then stated that the purpose of the Club is to promote fishing, boating and good fellowship among all members. The Commodore welcomed all of our new members. The minutes of the February 2nd meeting were accepted on a motion by Joseph Stickney which was seconded Dennis McGill and passed by the members. The Commodore recognized the Club s past commodores as well as the current members of the Executive Board. Special thanks to all of those who volunteered at the Clambake this year. It was a great success financially as well as for sheer entertainment. 141 volunteers helped make the day a wonderful event. We also appreciate all of you who attended and purchased raffle tickets and bid on items in the silent auction. The Clam Bake is a major fund raiser for the Club. The Tekes donated the most fish for the fish fry a total of 47 pounds. The Ryders graciously donated the materials and labor for the new cement slab in the park. The Club agreed to donate $1,000 to the local Boy Scouts troop as a thank you. Centennial Bank once again was there serving up hot dogs and hamburgers. As always, after each meeting there is a home cooked meal that includes salad, entree and dessert provided by member volunteers. The volunteers cooked a tasty meal that was enjoyed by their fellow members. Special thanks to them and all those who help with the food set up and serving, especially John Fruhmorgen and Tim Cook for stepping in at the last minute and providing the pulled pork entrée. I would also like to thank the Rucks for bartending; Kitty and Ron Sutton for handling the sale of the 50/50 tickets; Dennis and Barbara Driscoll for overseeing the check in process; Anita Alferes for selling the tickets for the end of season dinner dance; and all the people who help make our meeting a fun event. Also thanks to all those who help with the set up and clean up after the meeting. We still need volunteers to sell tickets at KCB Days for the wheel barrow of cheer. Thanks to Lyn Paterson and Jerry Ellis who donated some alcoholic refreshments for our open bar. Treasurer Rick Buy read the February Treasurer s Report. The Treasurer s report was duly accepted on a motion which was seconded and passed by the members. Thanks to Ralph Gerkins for chairing the silent auction. The Club made even more money this year than last year from the sale of donated items. Willie Claussen provided some wonderful fishing rods, reels, etc. for the silent auction. Vice Commodore Joe Schmidt reminded everyone that nominations for all Board positions are now being accepted. If you are interested in serving on the Board please see Bob Willey who is heading up the nomination committee. The new Board will be seated in April. Membership Secretary Ron and Tania Teke asked for members to volunteer and chair some of the committees, including tee shirt captain, wheelbarrow of cheer and 50/50 captain as well as additional chair positions for the Clam bake next year. Thanks to everyone who volunteered. We have filled twenty two slots for the planned overnight fishing trip out of Key West to the Dry Tortugas. If you are interested, please see Ron to sign up. The cost of the trip is $500. Corky Spehrley updated everyone on the progress being made in restoring Sunset Park after Irma. Plans are in place for the repairs and the material cost is estimated at $25,000. Members and residents are providing volunteer labor to get the work done. The Beautification Committee has volunteered to help as needed. Tournament Director John Fruhmorgen presented the prize money to the winning anglers with the assistance of Gerry DuBois. Florida Keys A/C and 3rd Generation Plumbing are sponsoring Tournaments this month. Centennial Bank and Frank s Grill are sponsoring upcoming Tournaments. Remember that Captain Hook s provides Club members with a 20% discount, just be sure to show your badge. Tickets for the End of Season Dinner Dance are on sale tonight. Only 100 tickets will be sold. Bob Newman will provide the entertainment and Cindy Casey is catering the event. However, we do need volunteers to help with the set up, serving and clean up. Please see Bonnie Polk at the side table to sign up. Thanks to all of you who attended the dedication at the bench in honor of Tucker DeGraw. The dinner at the Lighthouse Grill has been changed to April 19th. Festivities start at 5:00. Please contact Marian Buccafurni to sign up for this event. A gift certificate at the Lighthouse/Hyatt for a two night stay worth $500 was auctioned off. The top bid was $300. A half day fishing trip for four aboard the Real Identity was auctioned off for $450. The 50/50 was drawn and the meeting then adjourned.
