They are organizing an event in Marathon, probably in September at Pigeon Key. Please see Larry after the meeting if you can volunteer to help or make a donation to the organization. Mike Kennedy, Vice President of the Coastal Conservation Association (CAA). The CAA is an advocacy organization that protects the rights of recreational fishermen. Mike gave a brief presentation of the threats to recreational fishing as we know it in the Florida Keys. February 20th is the end of the comment period for the Key Biscayne fishing regulations. There is a meeting of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council on February 18 th at the Doubletree Hotel in Key West. See Mike for more information. The CAA is endeavoring to fight the proposed no fish zones and support local recreational fishermen. Membership in the CAA is $ ( Other business: Flo Roseboro thanked everyone who showed up when the Wounded Warriors passed by Key Colony Beach. Lyn Paterson needs another two volunteers to help as servers at the Clambake. Marathon Garbage Service is providing the dumpster for the Clambake. John Fruhmorgen along with representatives of Centennial Bank presented Dave Burnett with a shirt for winning the Centennial Bank Fishing Tournament. Steve Buckeridge was also awarded a shirt for Angler of the Year. Collector s Corner did the graphics on the shirts. The winner of the 50/50 was Doug Davison. A motion to adjourn was made by Tom Alferes and seconded by Steve Flood. Remember to visit our web site for information and events.
4 FROM THE DESK OF THE COMMODORE Well I think we all can agree that the 2014 Clambake was the best ever. The music was fantastic; the food delicious, and the good fellowship was outstanding. The good news is that the Rick Lieder Band (Rick and Dayna) will return next year and once again entertain us at the 2015 Clambake. The even better news is that we have also booked them for next season s New Year s Eve Party. Thank you to all the volunteers who make this day possible. We could not do this without all your help. A very special thank you to Phil Flagg who provide 58 pound of clean fillets (not 58 pounds of fish but fillets). This is the kind of effort that makes this club so special. Thanks again Phil. Please visit the website to view the dozens of pictures that Gail Cortelyou took at the Clambake and also a video interview I did with Time Out Magazine. Please stop by the Fishing and Boating Club tents at the Key Colony Beach Day and play the Barracuda Races and take a chance on the Wheelbarrow of Cheer raffle. The Club will be represented in the KCB Day Parade by the Commodore, Vice Commodore and the Treasurer. We will also regroup and participate in the St. Patrick s Day Parade. As the season starts to wind down towards the end of the month, you are all invited to another great KCB Fishing and Boating Club event, the End of Season Party. This is a party to give thanks to all the great members who volunteer their time and efforts. We offer this party at an excellent cost to the members and the club pays for the liquor, entertainment, and the added costs. Once again, we will have a Prime Rib Dinner catered by the Gluntz Resort Cabana Breezes with an ice cream bar and top shelf open bar. Entertainment will be provided by Lights Out Entertainment. Tickets will be on sale at the March 7th meeting. The dinner is open to all members and friends of members. Don t forget to mark your calendars for March 23 rd for our Little Palm Island ladies day. This event is sold out again this year and we look forward to another Sunday Brunch at Little Palm.
5 For anyone following the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary issues please be advised that the Sanctuary Advisory Council has acknowledged that the people of Key Colony Beach have been heard and it makes a difference. Please follow member Jim Teague s s with updates on the scheduled meetings, agendas, and reports. We need to stay involve and let them know that we are a voice to be reckoned with. We have their attention, let s keep it. The next SAC meeting will take place March 6 and 7 at the Marathon Garden Club and we urge you to attend. That s it for now; look forward to seeing everyone on March 7 th. Smooth sailing, Commodore Bill Knickman Membership News PLEASE BE SURE TO WEAR YOUR ID BADGE.
