2 By Blair THERE IS STILL A LOT GOING ON AT OUR CLUB! In my Commodore s Corner last month, after describing how much fun the cruise to Gulfport was, I encouraged everyone to consider joining the next Cruise to Long Boat Key, which will be held May 5-7, under the leadership of Manny Farinas, our Cruising Chair. I have been informed that, as of a few days ago, twelve boats have signed up for the cruise, and that the dinner groups have reached capacity. Sadly for me, I cannot be two places at one time, so my best thoughts will be with the cruisers as I attend the Kentucky Derby Party at Tampa Bay Downs! It s my understanding that the Derby Party is close to reaching full capacity, if it has not attained it already. (Thanks so much, Cindy We have a ton of events coming up so please get in the mood for summer fun with your fellow boat club members. and Butch!) Also, in last month s newsletter, I alluded to the upcoming Blessing of the Fleet, to be held on April 8 at 9:30 a.m., with Pastor Becky from the Church of the Good Shepherd officiating, followed by a brunch. Chris Benson hosted the event, which was absolutely beautiful in every respect. Many thanks to Chris and Paster Becky. As for future events, the Pirate Murder Mystery Costume Party will be held on May 20, and the Island Party, hosted by Dave Becker, will be held on June 17. See the newsletter for details regarding both events. For those who wish to plan far in advance, the Pig Roast will be held on July 15. Continued

3 By Blair Our fishing chair, Norm Whitten, will be conducting a family fishing event on June 10, running from daylight until noon. Fishing will be from boat or shore. At 1 p.m., all participants will gather at the clubhouse to trade pictures, stories, and lies. Norm will announce this event at the May General Meeting; however, if you can accommodate other people on your boat, Norm asks that you call him prior to the May General Meeting ( ). To encourage participation, Norm states, Remember, children are the future, and they are easy to please and keep occupied. The fish don t have to be big, just plentiful. As for sailboat racing, the first DBC Bay Race will be held on Friday, May 19 at 6:45 p.m., with five additional Bay Races held every two weeks thereafter (June 2, June 16, June 30, July 14, and July 28 - all at 6:45 p.m.). Finally, there are two very important holidays during May: Mother s Day (May 14), and Memorial Day (May 29). I wish all of you the very best on these holidays, and throughout the month. As always, I encourage each of you to consult the website frequently to obtain information regarding all of our club s events and to attend as many meetings and events as you can. An interesting book to read as follow-up to Wild which makes Mary Ingles s trek all the more impressive. We will have a special guest, one of her descendants. Mary Ingles was twenty-three, married, and pregnant, when Shawnee Indians invaded her peaceful Virginia settlement, killed the men and women, then took her captive. For months, she lived with them, unbroken, until she escaped, and followed thousand mile trail to freedom--an extraordinary story of a pioneer woman who risked her life to return to her people. We hope that it will be the beginning of a great tradition for our club and other cruises with other clubs will be in the future.

13 By Manny Farinas Cruising Corner May 2017 Four boats from our club will join forces with several boats from The Club at Treasure Island to spend a week-end at Long Boat Key Moorings. This is going to be a combined cruise with another boating club, and will be a first for the Dunedin Boat Club. We hope that it will be the beginning of a great tradition for our club and other cruises with other clubs will be in the future. Last month several boats club members took advantage of great cruising weather and cast off on their boats on fantastic cruising adventures. Gary and Lori Badders on their boat Lola B cruised to Captiva Island for a couple of weeks; Rod and Cindy Collman on Ceilidh, cruised as far as Key West and the keys, with stop along the way in many interesting places; and last April 23 Gary and Janet Shellenberger on The Best of Times, departed for a three or four week cruise to the keys and Howard and Carol Elwood aboard Island Hopper departed on their annual cruise south. In order for it to be held, a minimum of 30 people must sign up by May 15. For those who attended the General Meeting on March 20, Tom Denham, founder of Mystery Mingles, made a very interesting presentation as to how the event works. The Social Committee believes that this could be a really fun event! Therefore, we urge you to go to the Recent Post on our website that describes this event in detail, which includes a description of the characters as well as instructions as to how to sign up for a character. In order to make this sign-up process much easier than described in the recent post, you may sign up for a character (provide your top three choices) by texting Cindy at or ing Cindy or Butch at butchandcindy@tampabay.rr.com (please include your phone number). We will then or call you back indicating which character you will be portraying.

19 By Carolyn New and "old" items were sold at the dock party on April 1st. We were able to set up the merchandise on the porch. This worked out well and we will try this area again at the general meeting on April17th. The new shirts arrived in time for the dock party. We received input from several members as to new items they would like to see available. We have since followed up on several of those suggestions and encourage everyone to share your ideas with us.
