WRCC Minutes for meeting 09-27-2012 The meeting was held at the Wichita Aviation Museum. Members in attendance: 20 Minutes taken by Scott Stoecker Roger Burright called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm. Mike Tallman was not able to make the meeting this week he s racing in North Carolina Visitors: None Reports/Old business: Treasurer Report: Current balance as of 09-27-2012 is $9675.36. Previous meeting minutes: Terry Powell read the minutes (abbreviated) from the August 2012 meeting. The minutes from the August 2012 meeting where accepted as posted with no changes. Committee Meetings: Auction Committee: Standing auction committee meeting will be held 30 minutes before the regular club meeting. February 23, 2013 is the only date that was open. Terry Powell reserved the room for that date, but still needs to make a down payment. It was noted that the Boy Scouts have the room on the Friday before the auction until 10:00 pm. There are no march dates available. April will be the next available time frame. Terry Powell will watch for possible cancellations in February and March. Options will be discussed at the next committee meeting. Christmas Party: Doug Burright looked into a few place for December 13 and December 20. Both are Thursday dates. Places that are interested in having the club Christmas party are: o Savute's Italian Ristorante o Felipe's Mexican Restaurant o Red Lobster (it was noted they do not have a private room available) If anybody has any suggestions, get with Doug Burright or Terry Powell. 1

Reports: Safety Report: Signs have been placed on the fence at Chapin noting no spectators beyond that point. Be careful when you grab your AMA card from the frequency board. Make sure it s yours. One suggestion is to make several copies of your AMA card and leave them in your flight box. When flying just hang one of these cards up and keep your original card in your pocket while flying. If your card is lost, it can take a couple of weeks to get a replacement card from AMA. Don Pemberton: Don Pemberton, a long time WRCC member and big supporter of the WRCC and club activities, passed away on September 24, 2012. Don ran the Jumbo fly-in at Lake Afton, and was also the club liaison for Lake Afton for many years. A motion was made for a plaque dedicated to Don to be placed on the pavilion at Lake Afton. The motion passed unanimously. There was a motion to see if the Derby club (DRCC) would be interested in joining the WRCC on this. This motion passed unanimously also. Field Reports: Chapin: o No report. Lake Afton: o The start pads are torn up and need to be replaced. Modeler of the year: Modeler of the year for 2012 needs nominations. Club events: Suggestions for club events (functions) are wanted. Some suggestions include: o Mall Show: Doug Burright will look into this. o Fun Fly: It was decided to hold a fun-fly at Chapin field on Saturday October 13, 2012 from noon to 6:00 pm. Discussions: Newton Auction: o The Newton club will be holding their annual auction on Saturday October 20, 2012. It is being moved back to the Activity Center this year. Lake Afton incident: o It was reported that a jet flew into some power lines and blew a transformer. When flying, use good situational awareness, and if needed, have a spotter to help. 7:48 pm: Break 2

7:58 pm: Meeting resumed. There was a motion made to make a donation to Don Pemberton s church for $50. The motion passed. Show-n-Tell: Doug Burright brought two planes for show-n-tell: o World Models Sky Raider MkII This plane was put together from parts and has had some repairs to make a flyable plane. Power is a K&B Sportster.45 engine. Doug says it has a lot more glue on it than when he started with it. 3

o Extra 300S Doug is currently building this model from a Great Planes kit. Covering scheme will be in Patty Wagstaff s Cirrus design: Black and silver base with red, orange and yellow trim, additional trim to simulate the lower windows in the fuselage. The cowl is assembled with ABS glue, which Doug says is the only way to assemble an ABS plastic cowl. Power will be from a 4-stroke engine. The cockpit will receive some detail, and will feature a custom made Patty Wagstaff pilot. 4

Attendance drawing: $10.00 Melvin Jones was not present and lost out on $10.00. Next month s drawing will be for $15.00. Raffle: 1) Doug Burright: Hobbico Torque Master 90 starter 2) Doug Smith: Ultracote covering. 3) Roger Burright: Great Planes Accu-Throw 4) Marty Bonse: Xtreme Pilot 5) Ken Chadwick: 1 gal. Aero Fuel 15% 6) Terry Powell: Astro-Flight Servo Tester 7) Richard Bereman: Great Planes Center Point Drill 8) Scott Stoecker: Carl Goldberg Spinner Meeting was adjourned at 8:20 by Roger Burright. 5
