PREMIER INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP LADIES FOOTBALL Valley Rovers 1-21 V s Inniscarra 0-12 On Saturday evening last Valley Rovers took on Inniscarra in Round 2B of the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship knowing that defeat would mean the end of the championship. Valleys were 0.08 to 0.02 clear after 18 mins scoring some excellent points in particular from Jack Walsh and Chris O Leary. In fact it should have been 1.08 as Chris O Leary s shot on 15 mins hit the back bar in the net, with the umpires and referee not noticing the ball had crossed the line. Valley hit another 6 points before the break to leave the score at half time Valley 0.14 to Inniscarra 0.05, with all 6 forwards scoring from play in the 1 st half. The second half was just as one sided as the first and if the game wasn t over it was certainly over as a contest on 36 minutes when Gary Farrell deflected shot ended up in the net. Once again in the 2 nd half Valleys added some more excellent points and ran out 12 point winners on a scoreline of Valley Rovers 1.21 V s Inniscarra 0.12. UNDER 16 s Valleys now progress to the Round 3 Draw Team: Willie Burke Joe Lynch, Darragh Murphy, Tomas O Brien Sean O Regan, Noel O Donovan, David Lynch Colm Butler, Cormac Desmond Kevin Canty, Chris O Leary, Gary Farrell Eoin O Reilly, Jack Walsh, John Cottrell Subs Darragh Lordan for Colm Butler (Blood) Eoin Delaney for Sean O Regan and Darragh Lordan for John Cottrell (Inj) Photo above of the girls enjoying the sunshine before our challenge match v Clonakilty. Report Following a short lay-off from games due to exam interference, the ladies football u16 team had a return Page 3 of 6
to action last Sunday week 18th June with a challenge game down in Clonakilty against the hosts. This was a great work-out for this group as it showed in the first half that rustiness had set in, however by the start of the second half the girls had rediscovered their impressive form from before the exams to go on and achieve a comfortable win. On Thursday last, Rovers made the short journey into Bandon for their third league game of the campaign. From a long way off, this was always going to be identified as a key game in this league and it was obvious from the first whistle that both teams felt this way. Valleys thundered into the lead with a great point from young Grace O'Dwyer followed by another from Nicole Callanan, before Bandon pegged it back to all level soon after. However Valleys, powered on by 2 goals from Cliona O Riordan and Kim Muckian went in at half time leading 2:4 to 0:4. Bandon started the second half strongly and cut the deficit to a goal before O'Riordan pounced again for a second goal. This seemed to up the intensity for the rest of the game as Bandon attacked in droves, however they were repelled by a Valleys reargaurd led by the central spine of goalie Jane Mulvihill, Niamh Hurley and Carol Cremin. Time and time again Bandon tried to bulldoze through for a much needed goal but Valleys held firm with Niamh Crowley, Aine lynch Ellen Fehily clearing some great ball and Sarah lynch with Rachel lordan tracking back and covering any likely threat, Valleys held out to record a great win on a scorline of Valley Rovers 3:5 to Bandon 0:12. Team: Jane Mulvihill Aine Lynch Carol Cremin Niamh Crowley Ellen Fehilly Rachel Lordan Sarah Lynch Ellen Fennelly Niamh Hurley Cliona O Riordan Nicole Callanan Kim Muckian Grace O Dwyer Laoise Collins Emma Kelly Subs: Chloe Burton Aishling ODonavan Aishling Fennelly On Sunday last, Valleys travelled to play Passage in another challenge match. This afforded the girls to get another chance to develop their skills without the drama of league and championship pressures. The girls put right some of the parts of the game they felt needed improving and ran out winners on a scoreline of Valley Rovers 4:7 to Passage 1:8 This team has a busy few weeks ahead, continuing with another league game next Thursday night in Brinny v Skibbereen at 7:30pm. CAMOGIE UNDER 12 Our U12 A team (pictured) finished their round-robin league games on last Wednesday night with a spirited performance, losing out narrowly to Eire Og. Depending on results it looks likely that our girls will be in a playoff for semi-final place in the coming weeks. Page 4 of 6
