Western Elementary THE GAME PLAN March 7, 2016 Keith Brown, Principal Year Book Pre-Orders We are now taking pre-orders for our 2015-16 yearbooks with Balfour. Please fill out the envelope, which was sent home last week, and return to your child s teacher. The price of the yearbook will be $20. This year s yearbook is through a new company and we are excited about the new changes! Yearbooks WILL be here before the end of the school year. Orders may be made online at www.balfour.com by searching for Western Elementary or you may return the envelope sent home with the child. ALL orders are due by Friday, April 1st. VOLUNTEERS There are several events, trips and activities that our school will be having prior to the end of the school year. We will need volunteers to help with these events. If you are interested or are able to volunteer during the school day, please call the FRC at 270-274-4575. Thanks for your willingness to help! The teachers and staff from Western Elementary will be volunteering at McDonalds TONIGHT from 4-7p.m. The PTO will receive 20% of the monies taken in the front counter and drive through registers during that time. This is a great fundraiser for our PTO and we look forward to seeing everyone that evening! Kindergarten Registration Kindergarten registration for the 2016-17 school year is quickly approaching. Registrations are happening throughout the district with the first day being March 15th at the McDonalds in Beaver Dam. Registration at Western will take place on March 23rd from 8am-6pm. A student may register at any Ohio county location if you re not able to make the 23rd. Please spread the word to those in our district who have children who are of kindergarten age. pg. 1

With the end of the year approaching and all snow day s (hopefully) behind us, we have been able to schedule several end of the year events. First, the 3rd Nine Week Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday, March 24th @ 1:30. We will be recognizing students for their academic achievements as well as attendance. Secondly, the last day of school is scheduled for Monday, May 23rd. We will have the K-5 awards ceremony at 9:00am followed by 6th grade promotion at noon. Promotion has been scheduled to accommodate families needing to attend Middle School promotion activities as well as Western s promotion. More information will be given on promotion in later weeks. April 1st School IS in session 4-8th Spring Break 19th Arts & Humanities Night @ 5:30pm 20th Explore Agriculture Day Attendance SBDM Council Please remember that instructional hours at school begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m. each day. Students signed-in after 8 and before 3 are considered to be tardy. (KRS school law requirements). A parent or guardian must sign the student in upon arrival to school. Please do not drop the student off at the front door, please walk them in and sign-in at the office. Any student absent or tardy to school should bring in a doctor or parent note stating the reason for the absence. The School Based Decision Making Council will be conducting parent representative elections in April. Our council has two parent representatives elected to the council. Be thinking of adults who have children attending Western to be nominated for these positions. The nomination process will take place in April. The next SBDM council meeting will be held on March 21st at 3:30pm. Awards Day s and Promotion Information Congratulations! Congratulations to our 4-6th grade cheer squad for their outstanding performance in the first annual Western Elementary Cheer Competition. The squad won first place! The cheerleading squad along with the 4th grade boys Jr. Pro basketball team will be recognized during morning meeting on Friday morning, March 11th at 7:55. 2
