Conference Judging Information! Monday, July 10th Conference Judging allows 4-H'ers to talk face to face with the judge about his/her exhibit. The 4-H er will meet with a judge individually and tell them what they planned to learn and planned to do for their project (GOAL), what they have done (Plan of Action), and what they learned from their project. Conference Judging forms: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/ delaware/content/conference-judgingforms A few reminders for judging: Come to judging at your club s assigned time (Unless you are involved in the dog or horse show). Wear your 4-H uniform. The Exhibit Hall Pavilion is airconditioned. Be patient. Over 370 other members exhibits will be judged throughout the day. RELAX. SMILE. Just explain your exhibit what did you want to do or learn? What did you do? What did you learn? If you leave your place in line to go to another judge, have someone hold your space. Take your yellow 4-H Building Exhibit Entry/Judging Results form to each judge. The judge or judge s helper will circle the ribbon placing. White, red, and blue ribbons will be placed on the exhibits at the judging tables. Exhibits considered for State Fair and Outstanding Junior exhibits from 4th graders should be taken to the special tables for their ribbons. At the end of judging, the 4-H Building Exhibit Judging Form with your results (normally a yellow sheet) MUST be turned in at the designated table because premium money is figured from this sheet. What are your goals? All entries in Departments 17 through 22 should answer the following 3 questions in a written explanation, or on the Exhibit Goal Form (available online). 1. What did you plan to learn or do? (What was your exhibit goal(s)?) 2. What steps did you take to learn or do this? 3. What were the most important things you learned? The exhibit goals form is available online. Exhibitors may also type/write the question and type/write the answer. Photography Labels: A Photography Exhibit label (available online) must be completed and attached to the back of each photo exhibit entry instead of an exhibit goal form. An explanation of the design elements and art principles is still needed for visual arts, and some home improvement and clothing classes. An explanation of the art principles and design elements is found in the project material. Food Preservation Labels: If you are exhibiting a preserved food you must complete and attach a food preservation label to your project. Food preservation labels are available at the Extension Office. Members should refer to What s the Judge looking for? section of the specific project s 4-H Exhibit Tip Sheet for criteria used for judging (www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/page/exhibit-tipsheets) HORSE & DOG SHOW EXHIBITORS Horse Show and Dog Show Exhibitors should arrive early for Conference Judging on Monday July 10th at 9:00 9:15 a.m. to complete their project judging before show time.

Multi-Species Livestock Guidelines! Exhibitors planning on bringing multiple species in the same trailer to Tuesday s check-in please follow these guidelines: Those with Beef & Hogs - Load your trailer with hogs in back so they can be unloaded first, then beef. Those with Dairy & Hogs - Please wait until 10 am to arrive at the fairgrounds. Load your trailer with dairy in the back so dairy can be unloaded first, then hogs. Following these guidelines should let trailers move easier from one check-in point to the next and help reduce traffic problems. Youth exhibitors MUST have their paperwork completed before entering the check-in lanes. Trailers who do not have their paperwork done will be diverted into a holding area and will be DELAYED in traffic. REMINDER: Please have all Check-in Forms and Drug Affidavits filled out completely and signed by both exhibitor and parent/guardian BEFORE you bring your exhibits to the fairgrounds. Turn in Check-in Forms and Drug Affidavits to committee officials during check-in. Forms can be found here! ANIMAL DISCLOSURE STATEMENT (Drug Affidavit) Beef, Swine, Sheep, and Goat exhibitors MUST fill out a Drug affidavit form. If you gave ANY medical treatments to your livestock exhibits they need to be recorded. If none were given, you need to cross off the back and write "None" or "N/A". The form cannot be left blank and it MUST be completed before you get to the fair. Find the Forms Here! LOSE AN EARTAG? If your market beef, swine, goat, or sheep exhibit loses its weigh-in eartag, notify the Extension Office AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Replacement tags can be purchased for $2. We will need to update records with the correct information before the fair! Let us know if you need assistance putting in the new eartag. NO REPLACEMENT TAGS WILL BE GIVEN AT FAIR. If you need a new tag you must replace it before fair. If you are missing a tag you will NOT be able to show at the fair!! Wheelbarrows Needed! Each club should bring at least one wheelbarrow to the fair for their members to use during the week. This will keep the barn aisles clean. Cleanliness will be factored into Herdsmanship judging.

ATTENTION BEEF EXHIBITORS A meeting for ALL Beef exhibitors for the Fair will be held on Wednesday, July 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the BEEF BARN at the Fairgrounds. If you are exhibiting in the breeding beef, market beef, or pen of 3 class, please plan to attend this meeting! You will receive all of the necessary paperwork you need for the fair at this meeting. If you are unable to attend please contact Kenzie. Pen of Three exhibitors: Please notify the Extension office with the number of pens you plan to exhibit at the fair by July 5th (or let the Cattlemen know at the meeting). Exhibitors and their families will be responsible for finding buyers for their own carcass steers. Pen of Three exhibitors are required to clean up the pen their animals were housed in as soon as the show is over. Because the Pen of Three show will be Monday night, no one with a stall on the outside ring of the barn will be able to set up tack until after the Pen of Three show is complete. Anyone inside the gates (middle of the barn) will be able to set up before 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The barn will be closed down during the Pen of Three show. Clubs and exhibitors will be rotated as to where they are in the barn each year. Heifer exhibitors who are interested in participating in the Cow/Calf class in 2018 should have their market or breeding heifers tattooed during the weigh-in on Tuesday morning, July 11, not later in the week of fair. IMPORTANT SWINE INFO!! There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, July 5th at 6:30 p.m. in the HOG BARN at the Fairgrounds on updates for the Swine Show at the fair. All Swine exhibitors for the 2017 Delaware County fair should plan to attend this meeting. Paper work needed for the Swine Show will be distributed at this meeting. RABBIT NOTES Cages will be set up starting at 5:00 pm on work night, July 6th. Rabbit cages will be secured with plastic ties and wire on top, bottom and sides. Exhibitors are encouraged to bring padlocks for the cage doors so others do not pet or let the animals loose. Rabbits will be released at 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14. Exhibits must be removed & pens must be taken down & cleaned by 4:00 p.m. New rule for Rabbit Exhibits: There shall be no coloring agents, powder, oil gels, conditioners, or any other foreign substance used on the rabbits. The use of any strictly prohibited. Rabbits in violation will not be allowed to show. Fairbook PG 63 Dairy Reminders! You will need to turn in a Dairy Check-in Form BE- FORE you unload at the fair. These can be found at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/delaware/sites/ www.extension.iastate.edu/files/delaware/2017% 20Dairy%20Check%20in%20form.pdf We recognize you may be interested in bringing in your tack, bedding and hay earlier in the week. You are welcome to do so and set near where your club/chapter is stalled- but please DO NOT BED INDIVIDU- AL STALLS, as they may change once cattle come in Tuesday morning.

Fair Admission Information The Fair Board will charge admission to the fair starting on Tuesday morning, you will need to pay admission or have a wristband to enter the fairgrounds after Monday. This also applies to anyone entering to unload livestock through the Livestock Only Gate. Daily admission to the fair is $12 for adults 12 and over, $3 for under 12. Anyone who plans to purchase a fair coupon book is advised to purchase it soon--the coupon books cost $36, but books purchased after July 5th will cost $40. Coupon books are available in the Extension office, at the Fair Board office, and at area banks. FAIRGROUND SECURITY PROCEDURES The Small Animal Barn building will be locked each night at about 11:00 p.m. Doors will be kept open in other barns for ventilation, but the entrances will be blocked with gates that will be chained and padlocked at 11:00 p.m. Exhibitors can still enter or exit the barns after that time by going over the gates, but hopefully the gates will deter people from entering the barns if they don t belong. The gates will also help keep animals in the barn if someone releases them from their pens. A uniformed officer will be posted in the livestock barn area at 10:00 p.m. each night to monitor the barns throughout the late evening. Two uniformed officers will patrol the fairgrounds on golf carts after the fair is closed down for the night. Some lights will be left on in the barns so the officers can see into them. If any 4-H or FFA families need to have access to one of the barns after 11:00 p.m. and feels these procedures will prevent them from caring for their animals, please contact either the Extension office or the fair board office in advance for assistance in entering the barn. OPEN CLASS/FLORAL DIVISION OF FAIR Everyone is invited to participate in the Open Class/Floral Hall division of the fair. Items are entered at the Club House and at different times than 4-H entries.
