WSRC News & Events Welcome to our latest news and event updates 1 WSRC March 2018 News & Events

Welcome. Welcome to the March edition of the WSRC news and event updates. We have a bumper edition of instruction with some great instructors over the coming months, which we hope you will find informative and enjoyable! Our aim in developing our instruction sessions, is to assist you and your horse with your training and prepare you for our competitions - these are timed accordingly before the competition. We also welcome any non members to come along to watch some of our events/training sessions. With classes filling up fast for our WSRC Winter Series Dressage (members only) on Sunday, 18 March and our major competition of the year the WSRC Area 11 Friendly Unaffiliated Dressage on Friday, 30 March we suggest you enter ASAP to avoid disappointment!! Details for these and all our competitions are in this newsletter and on our website and Facebook page. Happy Hacking. Pippa Funnell has been working with a team to plan and promote eight horse riding routes around the Surrey Hills. This information is now available on http:// www.surreyhills.org/route/horse-riding/ and gives details of parking, length and difficulty of route and photographs with written directions. Enjoy! Information for riders entering qualifiers in 2018. New Body Protector Rules for 2018 from 1 January 2018. British Riding Clubs and British Eventing will only accept body protectors with BETA 2009 purple labels more info at http://www.elsteadridingclub.co.uk/schedules/2018%20brc%20bp %20STANDARDS.PDF Riding Hat Standards & Tagging for 2018: For any riding club qualifier or other team competition, you now need a new aqua coloured hat tag. Good news - British Riding Clubs, British Eventing and The Pony Club have all agreed to use the same colour of hat tag. From now on you just need the one aqua coloured tag on your hat and it will be accepted by each of these organisations (so no need for multiple multicoloured hat tags!). For more info on the 2018 hat standards for BRC/BE/PC:http:// www.elsteadridingclub.co.uk/schedules/2018%20brc%20hat%20tagging% 20Guide %20for%20Competitors%20v1.pdf Change to WSRC Team Entries. The British Riding Club (BRC) runs various competitions across all disciplines during the course of the year. There are two main series that apply to our area the Nationals, and London and South East (L&SE). Both have qualifiers and championships, the Nationals 2 WSRC March 2018 News & Events

also have winter and summer competitions for both Seniors and Juniors. Factor in a couple of locally run area friendlies, which are more informal and you can see there are dozens of opportunities to be on a team. Every year WSRC sends numerous teams to these National events at a considerable cost because every class incurs two entry fees one to BRC head office (money is used to provide rosettes, score sheets etc. for each qualifier) and one to the riding club running the event. For example, to send a team of four to a dressage or show jumping competition can cost the club in the region of 200 and to send an eventers challenge/combined training team of four can cost nearly 300. Many riding clubs pass the full cost of entry fees on to the competitor, however WSRC has always paid all entry fees. Unfortunately, this is having a significant effect on the club finances, so the committee has decided that from the 1 March 2018 all competitors (for National qualifiers only) will be required to pay 10 towards their entry fee for each class entered. This ruling will not apply to L&SE or friendly competitions. The following competitions are available to all riding club members at National level and entries for these have to be submitted 21 days before the event, no entries will be taken after this cut off period: Arena Eventing Dressage and Pairs Dressage, & Riding Tests Showjumping & Style Jumping Eventers Challenge Combined Training Horse Trials Dressage to Music and Quadrille WSRC prides itself on being a fun loving bunch and the WSRC picnic has become legendary with everyone pitching in with food and drink. Other clubs have said you look like you are having so much fun! We will continue to support and encourage our members at all levels. We need your help. Friday, 30 March - WSRC Area 11 Friendly Unaffiliated Dressage at Merrist Wood College, Surrey GU3 3PE We need stewards, pencillers and other helpers to ensure the day runs smoothly. If you are not entering yourself, please consider offering up some of your day to help. We can give you am or pm slots. Contact sarah@christopherstreet.org. Thanks in advance! 3 WSRC March 2018 News & Events

Our primary objective as a club is to help and encourage our members in all aspects of horsey life from the increasingly popular Trec to interactive lecture demonstrations, instruction and team competitions. The emphasis we try to maintain in the club is to make owning and training your horse as enjoyable and sociable as possible while still being informative and safe.
