We still need a few more members to reach the best operating levels to continue to provide the best Country Club value in town. Take your time to read it through and consider who you would enjoy having out here with you. If you would like more information or for us to reach out and contact them on your behalf, please let us know. The food and beverage department continues to grow and improve each month. Steven Ash, our Food & Beverage Director, and Chef Daniel have prepared new daily specials going on at lunch each day. Additionally, they added some evening options in the bar and grille this month with special menus for these events. Watch football or basketball with your friends and enjoy some great food specials as well. We hope you will take advantage of the expanded breakfast opportunity in The Bar and Grille beginning November 10. Thank you for your support of Windyke, we truly want to make this your club. Participation has been up in most areas of the club this year. We take very seriously what members recommend and work hard to provide it within our resources. MEN S NIGHT FINAL Brent Ratliff Director of Golf This year marked the eleventh year of our popular men s night. This was the tenth year that we incorporated a season long point s race. Our final event was October 7 to crown our Men s Night Season Champion that played 18 holes with an included dinner after play. Congratulations to Mike Albonetti on becoming the 2018 Men s Night Champion. For those of you who are new to the club or just did not get into Men s Night this year and are interested in participating next year here are a few details: Play is every Tuesday night starting at 5:30pm April - October The golf shop picks the pairing and the format each week No need to find a partner or do anything other than sign up by 3:00pm each Tuesday Two Divisions There is a handicapped division and a non-handicapped division with a recommended index of 6.9 or less 9 holes each week with optional dinner after play in the bar $20 per week includes cart, prizes and appetizers after play 95% of each week s entry fee goes directly to that week s play Average weekly prize payout is over $500 $1 per player per week goes to the year-end pot (2018 pot total - $3,979) The pot payout is distributed to the top 20 places for the year I would like to personally thank each of you for your participation. Men s night has become one of the most successful programs here at Windyke and that would not be the case if we did not have a great core group of advocates. As we are now in the off season for the year, we will begin planning for next year s formats. So, if you have any suggestions or any comments whatsoever please do not hesitate to contact me. Each year the events and the overall structure has been tweaked based strictly on your feedback. Tip from the Pro Brock Shafer, Director of Instruction brock@windyke.com 901-238-7974 As a golf instructor here at Windyke for 10 years, I would say my swing philosophy has changed over time. In my time at GolfTEC, I emphasized body rotation and its ability to help control the club shaft and face as it moves through the swing. There is a certain security to this line of thought as many of you know that shoulder motion is more predictable and stable in the putting stroke than the use of the hands. I have not forsaken this type of teaching, but I have definitely focused more on the loading and firing of the wrists and forearms the past few years. It s all in the wrists is a faithful saying for a reason. Having said that, I would like to encourage all of you to consider how you can create more speed in the hands. Think of a Frisbee motion for proper sequencing and explosion of the wrists in the golf swing. Drive the lead arm toward the target while holding the wrist and elbow in a loaded and powerful angle. Once the arms passes the head fire those levers as fast as possible. It is not fast until that last moment so don t rush the downswing. (Notice the left arm drive of the Frisbee player in black as he waits to release the power) Work on the timing of this system by actually playing Frisbee. I purchased my first Frisbee golf set last week and played a local park course with my family. Lots of fun and helps train us to be better golfers at the same time! Come see me this winter in the video room and we can work on the improving of this powerful technique. HOW ARE YOUR IRON ANGLES? Luke Reilly, PGA Assistant Golf Professional When was the last time you had the lie angle on your irons and wedges checked? Unfortunately, this is something that is often overlooked by most golfers. Whether they don t know to do so, or they get fit once and think their irons are set for life. The lie angle will change over time and needs to be checked and adjusted. For someone who hits a 7-iron 150 yards, a lie angle that is off 1 degree, can result in a shot being off target up to 15 feet. Just 2 degrees off, missing your target by 25-30 feet, will result in a lot of missed greens in regulation, all caused by an equipment fault. Swinging a piece of metal at 75-85 mph and hitting the firm ground with it, will obviously make it bend over time; but you most likely hit some irons a lot more than others. I imagine your 8-iron has bent more than your 4-iron, which probably doesn t make too many appearances in your practice time on the range. This is why each iron/wedge needs to be checked individually. Schedule a time with me on the range and we will make the necessary changes to your equipment. A slight change in your lie angle can make a substantial impact on results. NEW BREAKFAST OPTIONS! On November 10 we will be launching our Saturday morning breakfast menu available in Clubhouse Bar & Grille from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. On the new breakfast menu, some of the items you ll see are: Chef Daniel s Chicken and Waffle s, Eggs Bayou (a Cajun twist on the Eggs Benedict), French Toast with Fresh Fruit, and an assortment of Omelette choices. So, grab the family and take them to Windyke to enjoy the most important meal of the day. We appreciate your continued support as we continue to add to our dining options. Steven Ash, Food and Beverage Director

the 2019 Windyke Cup Events In the past, we have used a player s index for flighting players without taking into account that, due to age and gender, players are playing different tees with different course ratings. This can cause an unfair situation that we can easily fix by using the course handicap for flighting. The difference that this will cause is, that since only whole numbers will be used, it will increase the number of ties in flighting. These will be broken using the index. The other important thing to note is, that when signing up for events you will have to choose which tees you would like to play if you are age eligible to play multiple tees. The goal of this change is to provide a fair system that will give all players a chance to compete equally. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me to discuss. ~ Brent Ratliff Monday Night Football Watch Party November 5 Dallas vs. Titans Tiger Basketball Watch Party November 13 Memphis Tigers vs. LSU Tigers Call ahead to let us know you are coming. This will help us serve you better.
