The Horns are 15-6 against Iowa State during the Rick Barnes era entering Monday s game. Texas has won 11 of the last 14 meetings between the two teams. TEXAS-IOWA STATE SERIES QUICK FACTS Overall Texas leads, 17-11 In Ames Iowa State leads, 8-4 In the Rick Barnes era Texas leads, 15-6 Overtime Games Texas leads, 1-0 KANSAS POSTGAME NOTES UT dropped to 34-20 against AP Top 25 opponents under Rick Barnes at the Erwin Center. Isaiah Taylor topped the 20-point mark (23 points) for the first time this season and sixth time in his career (44 games). Myles Turner recorded five blocked shots (one shy of his career high), marking the sixth time this year (19 games) that he has blocked at least five shots. CHECK OF THE POLLS Texas is ranked No. 17 in the most recent AP poll (Jan. 19) and No. 18 in the USA Today coaches poll (Jan. 19). During the Rick Barnes era, the Horns have spent 191 weeks in The AP Top 25, including 92 in the Top 10. Texas was ranked No. 10 in The Associated Press preseason poll. This marked the first time the Horns have appeared in the AP preseason poll since the 2009-10 season, when UT began the year at No. 3. Texas has now made 15 appearances in school history in the AP preseason poll. Prior to its four-year absence from the preseason rankings, the Horns were ranked in the AP preseason poll for nine consecutive years (2001-02 through 2009-10). UT was ranked No. 10 in the USA Today coaches preseason poll. This marks the 12th time in the last 14 years that the Horns have been ranked in the coaches preseason poll. It s the highest preseason coaches poll ranking for UT since the Longhorns were tabbed No. 3 in 2009-10. A CONSISTENT DANCER Texas has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 15 of Rick Barnes first 16 seasons. UT has made a total of 31 all-time appearances in the NCAA Tournament (35-34 record). The Horns have earned a bid to the NCAA tourney 23 times in the last 26 years. AN ELITE PROGRAM Texas has reached the NCAA Elite Eight twice in the last nine years and three times in the last 12 seasons. During the Barnes era, the Horns have made trips to the regional final in 2003 (beat Michigan State to advance to the Final Four), 2006 (lost to LSU in overtime) and 2008 (lost to Memphis). UT has advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight a total of seven times in program history (1939, 1943, 1947, 1990, 2003, 2006 and 2008). IN SWEET COMPANY Texas has advanced to at least the NCAA Sweet 16 a total of five times in the last 13 years. The Longhorns have advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 a total of 13 times in program history (1939, 1943, 1947, 1960, 1963, 1972, 1990, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008). DEFENSE WINS Solid defense has been a trademark of the Texas program under Rick Barnes. Since Barnes arrived in Austin, the Horns have held 276 of their 567 opponents to under 40% FG shooting. Texas sports a 249-27 (.902) mark in the Barnes era when accomplishing the feat (12-1 mark in 2014-15). UT has held its first 19 opponents to an average of 57.3 ppg on a combined 34.9% FG shooting (383-of-1098), including a 30.2% mark from three-point range (105-of-348). Texas ranks THIRD nationally in FG percentage defense (.349) through games of Jan. 24. The Horns have held 13 of their first 19 opponents to under 40% FG shooting. UT limited No. 24/22 Connecticut (Nov. 30) to 54 points on 30.4% FG shooting (17-of-56), including a 3-of-16 (.188) mark from three-point range. Texas limited Cal (Nov. 21) to 55 points on 31.3% FG shooting (20-of-64). The Horns held the Golden Bears to 21 points on 24.1% FG shooting (7-of-29) in the first half. UT held No. nr/25 Iowa (Nov. 20) to 57 points on 29.6% FG shooting (16-of-54), including a 4-of-14 (.286) mark from three-point range. SOLID D IN RECENT BACK-TO-BACK WINS Texas was a much-improved defensive team in its last two victories against No. 16 West Virginia (Jan. 17) and TCU (Jan. 19). In those two games, the Longhorns held their opponents to an average of 49.0 points per game on a combined 28.7% FG shooting (31-of-108), including a 23.7% mark from three-point range (9-of-38). IMPRESSIVE DEFENSIVE EFFORT vs. WVU UT held No. 16/15 West Virginia (Jan. 17) to 50 points on 24.1% FG shooting (13-of-54). This marked a UT record for lowest FG percentage allowed (24.1) in a Big 12 Conference regular-season contest (previous: 25.0 at Baylor [13-of-52] on Feb. 19, 2000). The 13 field goals allowed by UT also tied a school record for fewest FG allowed in a Big 12 game.

RECORD-SETTING DEFENSE Texas limited Texas State (Dec. 13) to 27 points on 21.6% FG shooting (11-of-51). The 27 points marked the fewest points Texas has allowed since Dec. 6, 1946 (53-23 home win against Houston YMCA). It marked the first time UT had held an opponent below 30 points since Feb. 25, 1948 (32-29 home victory against Baylor). UT held the Bobcats to just nine points on 16.0% FG shooting (4-of-25) in the first half. This marked the fewest points allowed in a half by the Longhorns since the start of the 1949-50 season (as far back as the school has box scores and records in a half). The previous mark for fewest points allowed in a half was 10 (2nd half vs. Nicholls State on Dec. 13, 2011; 2nd half vs. Baylor on Jan. 21, 1984). The previous mark for fewest points allowed in a first half was 11 (vs. Arkansas- Monticello on Nov. 18, 2007). The 21.6% FG shooting marked the third-lowest FG percentage allowed by UT in a game since the start of the 1949-50 season. CLEANING THE GLASS Texas sports a +11.5 rebound margin (42.5-31.0) through its first 19 games this year and has outrebounded its opponent in 15 of its first 19 contests (UConn, Oklahoma and Kansas have been the only three teams to win the rebound battle against UT; Texas was even at Oklahoma State). The rebound margin (+11.5) ranks SECOND nationally through games of Jan. 24. UT has posted double-digit rebound margins in 13 of its first 19 games this season. The Horns posted a +27 rebound advantage (55-28) against Lipscomb (Dec. 16). Texas recorded a +24 rebound margin (45-21) against Texas State (Dec. 13). The Horns registered a +11 rebound margin (42-31) at No. 1/1 Kentucky (Dec. 5). The Wildcats entered the game with a +14.6 rebound margin. Texas posted a +27 (52-25) rebound margin against UT Arlington (Dec. 2). The Horns grabbed more offensive boards (28) than UTA had total rebounds (25). BLOCK PARTY The Horns set a single-season team record with 206 blocks in 2013-14 (previous mark: 203 in 1997-98). UT has averaged 7.8 blocks per contest in its first 19 games this year (148 total blocks). Texas ranks SECOND nationally in blocks per game (thru games of Jan. 24). Texas tied a school record for most blocks in a Big 12 game with 12 at Oklahoma State (Jan. 10). UT set a single-game record for most blocked shots in a half (10) during the first half against Lipscomb (Dec. 16). The Horns recorded 11 blocked shots for the game. Texas tied a single-game school record with 13 blocks in the win against UT Arlington (Dec. 2). The Horns also blocked 13 shots vs. UTSA on Dec. 29, 2004 and vs. Cal on Nov. 15, 2000.
