CARDINAL CONNECTION MONDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2018 NO EVENTS TODAY SOFTBALL PLAYER MEETING There will be an informational Softball meeting for girls 9-12 next Tuesday Feb. 20 an 8:10 am in Room A344 RESULTS FROM THE WEEKEND GIRLS BASKETBALL VARSITY ALEXANDRIA 73 SAUK RAPIDS 32 The Lady Cards hit the road Friday night completing a 8 games in 15 days campaign and came home with a convincing CLC and Section win. We didn t rest on our laurels from the big win over the Spuds the night before as we came out focused and energized to jump on the Storm right away and never look back. Scoring was led by another double double night for Courtney Gould with 20 points and hailing down 12 rebounds. Emma Schmidt lit up the Storm from downtown with 16, Kaye Paschka 9, Emily Jones 8, Ella Grove 7, Flora Kvale 6, Matie Wirtjes 3, and Mia McGrane and Alayna Strand 2. Rebounds were led by Gouldy with 15, and then the entire team ripped down 3-4 each. Assists were led by Schmitty with 6, Ella Grove and Kaye Paschka 4 each. Steals were led by Mac Duwenhoegger and Alayna Strand with 2 each. The Cards now stand at 21-3 overall and 13-1 in the CLC. The Cards then our attention to Tuesday on the road at Brainerd and HOME Thursday for SENIOR NIGHT hosting the Willmar Cardinals. TOP 20 Thinkers and Teams SURGE together for the common goals of the TEAM. Bottom 80 Thinkers and Teams have a strong undercurrent sucking the positive energy of the team out to sea. MATH TEAM From 2/12/18 Who is/was involved: 9th-12th graders from AAHS- Meet 5 participants: Christopher Bienusa, Amanda Brezina, Nathan Eck, Sarah Jiang, Bryant Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Nathan Klimek, Wil Kopp, Sam Maier, Dylan Nelson, CJ Schlosser, Reece Stallman, Noah Struck, Jacob Tiegen and Luke Tollefson. The Alexandria math league team had their 5 th and final meet of the season on Monday February 12 th. The Alexandria Team earned 2 nd place in their final meet. Team scores were Moorhead (66), Alexandria (51), Detroit Lakes (34), Fergus Falls (29), Pelican Rapids (27), and Breckenridge (24). Alexandria s top individual scorer for this meet was CJ Schlosser who scored 10 points. Alexandria and Moorhead were within 1 rank point and 7 total season points going into this meet. Moorhead proved too strong at this meet and Alexandria was unable to gain the division title and did not secure a trip to the state tournament. A divisional awards ceremony was held following the meet. The AAHS team and several individuals were honored. The team received a plaque for finishing in 2 nd place. Individual awards went to the following people: Wil Kopp: 2 nd place in the division, top team scorer, 1 st team all-conference; Chris Bienusa: 5 th place in the division, 1 st team all-conference; Amanda Bittmann: 6 th place in the division, 1 st team all-conference;

CJ Schlosser: 7 th place in the division, 1 st team all-conference; Luke Tollefson: 2 nd team all-conference; Ethan Johnson, 2 nd team all-conference; Sam Maier: all-conference honorable mention. Congratulations to all participants on an excellent regular season. The team graduates 5 seniors this year: Nathan Eck, Joslyn Kent, Wil Kopp, CJ Schlosser, and Luke Tollefson. They will be missed and we wish them all the best. front row: Sarah Jiang, CJ Schlosser, Amanda Bittmann back row: Chris Bienusa, Sam Maier, Luke Tollefson, Wil Kopp, Noah Struck KNOWLEDGE BOWL from 2/13/18 Who is/was involved: 9 th -12 th graders from AAHS Meet 1 participants: Christopher Bienusa, Amanda Bittmann, Nathan Eck, Christian Fleming, David Fleming, Jayme Hubred, Jon Hubred, Brian Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Isaac Kent, Zach Kent, Wil Kopp, Sam Maier, Dylan Nelson, Nick Nelson, Jack Struck, Noah Struck, Ryan Swanberg, Jacob Tiegen and Luke Tollefson. The AAHS Knowledge Bowl team had their second regular season meet on Tuesday Feb. 13 th in Fergus Falls. The team of Amanda Bittmann, Wil Kopp, Ryan Swanberg and Luke Tollefson placed 1 st. AAHS brought 5 teams of students. In total there were 21 teams at the meet. The teams were from Detroit Lakes, Fargo North, Fargo Davies and Sisseton. The other Alexandria teams placed 5 th, 7 th, 9 th and 14 th. The team s next meet is Wednesday February 28 th at Concordia. Knowledge Bowl competitions are interdisciplinary academic contests. During the contest, teams of students compete in written and oral rounds by answering questions related to all areas of learning typical of secondary education programs. Questions test students recall, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Currently over 800 teams from 290 Minnesota school districts participate in senior high knowledge bowl competitions. At the end of the season, teams compete in sub-region and region tournaments with a total of 48 teams advancing to the State Knowledge Bowl meet.

PERFORMER OF THE WEEK Jared Schneider has been named Central Lakes Conference Performer of the Week in Boys Basketball. Jared averaged 16.7 points per game and an average of 4.3 rebounds in 3 games last week. Congratulations Jared! BASEBALL PARENT MEETING There will be a parent/player meeting all 9-12 baseball players and parents on Tuesday, March 20th at 7:00pm in AAHS room B182/B183.
