Alexandria led for most of the game but gave up the lead late in the game and were not able to mount a comeback. Alexandria will be back in action on Tuesday May 1 for a DH in Sauk Rapids. BRND ALXN SOFTBALL JV Alexandria 3 Brainerd 8 The Brainerd warriors came to AAHS softball complex for a single game last night. They came out on top 8-3. Brainerd opened up the scoring in the first inning, then added 4 more runs in the 2nd and never looked back. The young Cards put together a strong 5th inning scoring three runs of their own with Asasia Halbe singling, moved to second with a single from Autumn Botz, then Taylor Sayre hit a long drive to center field for a bases clearing triple. Sidney Drew stepped up and on the next pitch laced a single to right to score Sayre. That was all the scoring for the Cards as the Brainerd Warrior pitcher struck out 15 Cardinal batters on the night. The Cards played a great defensive game allowing only 2 errors on the game. Emily Harris pitched a complete game scattering 8 runs on 8 hits, striking out 6, 5 BB, and 4 HBP. Brooke Stender and Asasia Halbe shared the duties behind the plate. Next up for the Cards is an away contest against Sauk Rapids Rice. SOFTBALL 9 TH GRADE A Team 11-3 (Won) B Team 14-4 (Lost) After a rocky first inning start with giving up 3 runs on 2 errors, the A Team girls fired up and finished the game strong by playing perfectly in the field and shutting Brainerd out the rest of the game. Each girl contributed to the 8 run win by getting on base and making solid contact with the ball.

2 B Team had a couple of tough innings against Brainerd's big hitters. Still the girls battled through, getting great at bats and on base opportunities. However, it wasn't enough to pull out a win. As coaches, we are proud of the girls for keeping their heads up throughout the entire game. As a whole team, we still need to improve on our mental toughness and knowing game situations, but we are looking forward to getting in two solid practices before taking on Sauk-Rapids this coming Tuesday! BASEBALL VASITY Alexandria 9 Brainerd 10 We took our first loss of the season coming up short against Brainerd last night. Between both teams free bases were a factor as early season tendencies showed up for both teams on the mound. Both teams combined for 18 walks with Alexandria walking 13 of the 18. Carter Stockert started going 3 innings giving up 4 runs 3 earned on 4 hits. He walked 6 batters and struck out 6. Mathew Carlsen and Tayor Jendro got their first varsity experience on the mound with Carlsen working 2 innings giving up 5 runs 4 earned earned runs on 5 hits while walking two and striking out 2. Jendro working 0.1 innings giving up 1 earned run and walking 3 batters. Jason Tikkanen finished the game working 2/3 of an innings giving up 2 runs and walking 1. Offensively we were able to keep ourselves in the game scoring runs and retaking the lead multiple times throughout the game. We were led by Isaac Peterson who collected three hits followed by Braiden Reisdorf, Thomas Anderson, and Blake Hoelscher who each collected two. Doubles in the game were recorded by Reidsdorf and Brock Anderson. Jack Hilbrands also added a hit to the column. We will continue play next week as we kick off the first of 6 games Monday traveling to St. Paul to play Sartell at CHS field starting at 4:00 p.m. BASEBALL JV Brainerd 6 Alex 3 Last night was a perfect test for the Jr. Birds as we faced a solid Brainerd team as we grow & jell as a team we are seeing what needs to be done to get the W. Krespin Kuldt was the starting pitcher and give the team a super performance could not have asked for anything more from Krespin. Taite Breitkreutz relived and the managed to score enough to gain the victory. Our defense continues to be our nemeses. Offensively we hit a bunch of more atom balls Cody Richardson, Josh Ballou and Nolan Rustand got some clutch hits for the Jr. Birds. This team has a great attitude and does not give up. Some good Conference tests ahead next week! SENIORS ACTIVITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Applications are available in the activities office for any senior wishing to apply for the Cardinal Activity Achievement Award. Students who are involved in multiple activities throughout their senior year in high school, but who do not qualify for the Tri-Sport Athlete Award may be eligible to receive the Cardinal Activity Achievement Award. The deadline to apply is Thursday May 10 th. Three sport athletes do not need to apply for this award. PERFORMER OF THE WEEK Hunter Croonquist has been selected Central Lakes Conference Performer of the Week in Tennis. Hunter won 3 matches at 2 nd doubles and won 2 matches at first doubles. Congratulations Hunter!

3 CARDINAL CAFÉ Alexandria Area High School's student-run restaurant, Cardinal Cafe, is open to the public! The Cardinal Cafe is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from March 9 - May 25 (with a few exceptions) from 12:00-1:00 p.m., with seating at noon. The Cardinal Cafe restaurant is run by students in the Culinary Arts III class in the Business, Communication & Entrepreneurship Academy. This hands-on, project-based, unique learning experience is a great opportunity for the students to learn about the hospitality industry in a real restaurant environment where they make and serve meals. Menus are posted below. Cost: $7.00 per person (Cash or Check only). Limited seating. Reservations required. For reservations, call ext and leave your name (first and last), the date you would like to attend the Cardinal Cafe, and the number of people in your group. 5 TOM LEHMAN SCHOLARSHIP The Athletic Foundation annually awards the Tom Lehman scholarship ($3000) to a multi-sport athlete who has demonstrated through their academic and athletic career determination, commitment, and the drive to be successful in any endeavor they pursue. Students wishing to apply for the scholarship may fill out and submit an online application by the fourth (4th) Friday in April (April 27, 2018). The award winner will be revealed during Honors Night.
